Sometimes I’ll toss Satin in there before or after silver bullet but that’s rare

VariMu alway ON mastering, but mix :
Silver Bullet mk2 > ZOD IDDI > AVID HD I/o -- generally no compressor.

I was just messing around with a mix and I put the Manley Vari-Mu on the master buss of the mix and a couple RN 5033 EQ’s and checking limiting verse compressed settings just messing around, and the artist, a buddy of mine wants to buy my Manley Vari Mu after strapping it on the mix. Is there really a replacement for the Vari-Mu or anything that comes close to it? I was looking at prices and they are not cheap. What is an alternative to a Vari-MU because we were both like…DAMN!!!! Not sure I want to sell it, seeing that it’s in perfect condition, just came back from Manley for a check up and they replaced a bunch of parts, and it sounds incredible! I guess I’m just curious what else rivals the Manley Vari-Mu |

Sometimes Fearn VT-5 and Vari-Mu Mastering version with T-bar Mod. Sometimes nothing.

Hard to go wrong with some sort of SSL-type. They may not be the best for every song, but they will never be WRONG.
I have a Serpent SB-4001, an API 2500, and a Compex that are in the rotation. The API and Compex can have ton of vibe compared to the Serpent, but it can often be the wrong vibe. Compex is pure rock.... gritty, mid-forward and the API is dark and makes transients more aggressive.
EQ I usually use an API 5500 or pair of Audioscape EQP-As, sometimes both. API has a tighter lowend where the Audioscape has a more "bloomy" lowend, so that usually affects my choice of which to use. They compliment each other if used in tandem. Obviously the API is much easier to recall.

Been really happy with my IGS Tubecore mastering edition on the mixbus. Have the older version of it. Works great with the curve bender or pultec plug. That’s pretty much what my mixbus cosists of.

Really enjoying my new to me Silver Bullet Mk1 with my Stam VCA on insert. I’m often following that with the SB plugin for aspect ratio and more.
Before all that I got a ton of mileage from my TNC ACMP 73s on the master (also with the Stam). Make the LEDs dance on the TNC for mix impact.

I’ve got a couple good analog stereo eq’s, compressors, RND 542’s, and good preamp options, but 90% of the time nowadays, I’m running tracks/busses through them rather than the whole mix.
For the type of subtle processing I like on the mix plugins work just fine, and allow for quick easy revision.
Lately that’s TDR Kotelnikov or Unisum, Flywheel, and one of a few different eq’s. Airwindows Console 8 also acts as a soft clipper at the end.

The stuff that almost always gets used to some degree:
RMS 755 compressor -> IAA LH95s -> SDRR2 (desk mode) -> Satin
Sometimes NovaGE and/or Limiter6.
