Reverberate used to be the only way to get the Bricasti fusion IR. Then 7th heaven appeared. Since I was only interested in the Bricasti, I bought it. I didn’t need any of Reverberate’s extra flexibility.

The JZ v67 is going to be really hard to beat. It took a U67 to beat mine! And I’m still not selling it.

A Warm Audio TB-12 preamp. Great sounds and a lot to learn. They can experiment with two different opamps, two transformers (or transformerless) and variable impedance.

Made me a little home setup for the pandemic with an Audient iD14 and a used (like new) Fostex 6301B. I'm amazed at how much I like this little speaker! What's even more amazing is how well Sonarworks is correcting my Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro. I swear it feels like I'm sitting at my studio!
However, my best "home" purchase ever is the Boss Waza AIR headphones! I'm rocking wirelessly around the house and having more fun than ever!!!
Incoming: vintage MXR 10-band EQ (the blue one). I always wanted to try one after reading that Val Garay used one on James Taylor's acoustic, etc. Also incoming, the new Epihone EJ200. All solid woods at an amazing price, I see no reason it shouldn't sound as good as a Gibson!

Silly question. I’m out of patchbay outputs (top row) and have empty inputs (bottom row). What’s the potential problem of using the bottom row for outputs? i.e. I’d have inputs and outputs next to each other. Of course whatever is in the top row would be non-normalled.

Thanks! I'm interested in finding out what would be the headroom above +4 dBu. Is it 18dB, 20 dB? i.e. if I hit it with a +4dBU signal, what's the dBFS in Pro Tools? And vice versa. EDIT: I found the Japanese manual (the English one is offline for some reason) and the max input/output is +24 dBU: resources.avid.com/SupportFiles/PT/Pro_Tools_Carbon_Guide_JPN.pdf

I can't find its operating levels anywhere. I mix hybrid and I'd like to know if it has truly "pro" (analog-like) I/O levels or not.

V67 is an outstanding mic, I use mine all the time. I would have many more JZ products, but their insistence on novel/esoteric mountings and cages deters me. Yeah, the built in "shock mount" does little to nothing to prevent shocks, and I haven't been able to mount it on anything. And I've tried! Maybe it's possible to get a very short microphone bar so you can slide that into a Rycote. I almost succeeded with that plan but I couldn't find the right one.

I don’t quite get why you need correction on all outputs. Do you never record the mix into your computer?
I’m sure I’m just not understanding your setup. However, you don’t want to send Sonarworks-corrected audio to any external processors or mixer.
And if you have multiple monitors, you can put the Sonarworks plugin on every output anyway. You just need to do some routing in your DAW where you create a “print” track that you record to, uncorrected. So you’d be listening through Sonarworks but not printing through it.
I’ve been too lazy to do that myself and pretty good about turning it off for the bounce, but I’m going to change that for the next mix.

The DAV BG2 is great at any price. It’s on the clean side but not bland or boring. I’m never selling mine.

It’s heartbreaking but not unexpected, sadly.
Over the years I’ve identified a big side effect of streaming. Well, identify is too big a word - it’s just a hypothesis backed by anecdotal data.
I think streaming causes people to not buy the CD and also NOT LISTEN to the stream! The music is just there waiting for them whenever they have a chance. Sure, they mean to listen but then something else comes up. Maybe they just skim the tracks and think “sounds good, gotta give it a good listen.” Soon enough their brain tricks them into thinking they have already listened to that album that they “own” via their streaming sub.
Does this happen to you as listeners?

Excellent post! I have the same policy about drums, I think that’s important too. My Yamaha Recording Custom with Black Beauty snare, perfectly tuned, with Zyldjian K Custom Dark cymbals is going to beat most band’s kit. And it’s ready to go with great sounds.

Because a one room studio doesn't have the luxury of a musicians' lounge to hang out in, try to incorporate some nice seating, lamps and artwork so the artist is comfortable and inspired. The goal is to make it a destination that musicians will want to return to. I also have a small corner dedicated to a microwave, tiny fridge, and coffee maker. Very true! However that also means that there's no lazy "hanging out" type of scene! I do have a separate storage room/workshop with a coffee machine - and a bathroom. A small sofa in the live room and some nice ambience make the rest.

Storage is crucial. Bear in mind that studio floor space is your most expensive real estate. Don’t waste it on storage!

Cool thread. An "all-in-one" studio can be a professional room too. Levon Helm's studio or The Church in London come to mind, I'm sure we can come up with lots more. I have a pro (but small-ish) all-in-one studio myself.
I think the trick is to do a lot of experimentation when paying clients are not there. And I quickly learned that the fastest way to do stuff is to hit record!!! Especially for drums. How did I find the best kick drum position? Hit record, place the mic in one position and speak it in the mic, test it. Once you've done the potential positions, listen, pick the best ones, do it again. After a while you've learned what works and don't even need to listen except for a quick check.
On acoustics instruments, headphones can be useful tool, but I'd still try a couple positions and hit play.

Yes, it’s difficult to explain without being at the computer. I suppose I need to take the time to create presets, so I don’t have to navigate folders of IRs. Also I use Logic, maybe PT is different.

The plugin looks/sounds cool. It inspired me to fire up the real thing. So awesome! And that’s the reason I’m not buying it: it would make me lazy and I would never get the Copicat out!

Kush Omega preamp and plug-ins are supposed to do that. The plugins are cool but I haven’t tried the pre.
