WellI downloaded them without knowing which was which and i picked the original u67. easy winner. The bottom end bloom was very pleasing with the high end being very organic natural sounding. The 2018 U67 file sounded very toppy high end bright sounding. I would choose the Max mod over that one. I thought the Max mod sounded nice but not quite in the same league as the 1961 U67. Maybe a touch constricted in the highs and a touch more "cloudy" sounding by a smidgeon.

Quick question. It looks like you will be busy on tour for just on a month does that mean the SA-67 manufacturing and /or the whole place will be hold until you get back? Would love to get my non upgraded sa-67 before the tour? Cheers

Just bear in mind its a nice sdc but its not trying to be a km84 clone, it has its own thing going on. I like it more then km184. Not quite as bright on the top but still a little brighter then a km84 but not in a bad way.

Not to make matters worse, i was reading an old thread from Oliver saying that the failure rate (now we are talking about Olivers high standard here) for new ef86 tubes was 100% . And that in all good conscience Oliver could not use current production ef86 tubes. Klaus was also indicating that he felt this was the case in his research. These threads were about 5-10 years old from memory. So i am thinking i will happily use whatever new tube is in there and just upgrade it somewhere down the track.

I am guessing the standard will be the eh86 tube. Worst case scenario just buy a nice ef86 or a ef806 from .bowie and it shall be good. Is this a reasonable solution? Or is it not as simple as this? I have been known to be wrong about Electronic stuff before.

I was going to call this thread something else but lets just settle with the demonstration of the Soyuz SU-013. I also own this mic but I was quite impressed and can concur with everything that was sad about this mic in this clip.
It was a great example of what this mic is like.
Cheers

Yep I made sure I got one of the REV B versions but there a lot of REV A's out there on the D864 comp. IF you do a search for Diz problems there a few people who did experience issues but I am sure the majority of people like myself accepted the fact that it was a cheaper product and it does have a unique vibe that was worth the sound that I get from my comp in the end. He did a special pricing on the D864 units after he released his Rev B that was worth the admission. But after delving into his Preamp's and tossing up whether to get one or two, I deemed it too risky like GOUGE to be buying something in Australia and then to experience return issues. I did read form users they were experiencing some issues that I did not want to take a gamble on. But I do love his D864 compressor.

one dealer i know said he was not sad to see the end of his stock of those products. I think the compressor was his best product put out in that range for me.

Though the capsule is larger then an 87, do you think the name 387 implies an 87 style capsule with 3 x voicing's?

Waiting for the Stam Sa-67 to arrive but i seem to be developmg a hankering for one of these Lauten Atlantis Fc-387 Fet mics. does anyone out there in audio land use one of these and care to comment? Main duties would be acoustic guitar and vocals. i love recording in MS for acoustic so i was thinking the FC-387 with the Stam sa67 should pair up nicely.

That reminds me i have a Trident 4T channel strip tucked away in a box somewhere. It was very versatile for the price. I loved using it live as well as in the studio for its dual function. 2nd hand prices place it Under $650 for a pre/eq/comp in 19" great little unit.

I do not own any Stam producrts but i have always known that his delivery dates are "somewhat flexible" so when i ordered the sa67 (which is still outstanding) i figured i would be waiting quite some time past the due date for it. But it Gives me time to save up for it and i would rather wait for it to be done properly then to get a rushed possible inferior product. I also understand that to build these products at this price point youneed reasonable bulk qty of parts which need to be in supply and at the right price. Thats the current condition of todays audio market.
Also Wiz we will be looking out for a review on your new toy sometime in the near future.
