Miktek pm5 has the c5 mic and i had that and the km84. Although not exactly the same they are in the same territory of sound c5 is brighter but i was initially surprised how similar territory they were.

Daking Fet II are a smoother version of the 1176. Not as grainy. Love them.

I sort of like my 8 channels of TL Audio PA-1's and PA-2's. Late 1990's English made but easy to get 4 x channels of that for under $1k.

+1 looking forward to this review.
I heard that the sr2 uses the neodymium metal stuff for the magnet and the 1a uses the older Alnico magnet. But because of the less forceful magnetic properties of Alnico over neodymium you need more Alnico which adds to the weight of the mic. But Alnico has a slightly different sound then neodymium .

I did think of Mick but as he does not do the products I was looking at. But yes he has been known to send gear out.
DO you think that the properties of the Magnet in a Ribbon have an effect on there sound? I am only discovering that RCA 44's used Alnico magnets and Cloud uses Neodymium material making the mic lighter. I am just wondering if that could be a big factor in the sound of the mic. OR maybe I am getting too Anal.

Well coming from a much smaller population base then USA i was recently ordered a Cloud 44a ribbon mic. Where we come from you do not have the luxury of having the optionof demoing gear from main stream audio suppliers so you have to rely on your own research and lots of luck whtehr some gear will work for you. So as usual i ordered a piece of gear hay was not currently in the country but was surprised to learn that that actual manufacturer sorts of makes batches to order and does not necessailry have stock on hand of there own gear. this got me thinking of why i dont buy new gear very often as the loss on selling the stuff if you dont like it can be taxing . Anyway i put my $$$ down and 3 x weeks later still waiting for the forementioned product to arrive. i guess i chose the .cloud 44a because of being active it will work more preamps i have andi think the M/V switching mght actually be useful. So i am wkmder if has anyone here actually used this mic at all? I was looking for some feedback on vocals and or acoustic guitar performances. Thanks

I guess by modern sound i mean that the bottom end is not super huge, its still bigger then LDC and the hi- mids to top has a little more info in it then the Vintage Ribbons that start to roll off somewhere between 10-15K. The Stager SR2n has some hi - mids/top present.

I actually own his Stager SR2N mic and think it has a great modern sound. I have touch base with him about the sr1 but they are only made in small batches. I do intend to get one of his as a backup plan if the 44 scenario does not work out. Why are there very littlereviews onthis mic?

I have heard of the pencil technique on LDC but never really thought about it on ribbons mics. I shall lock that one away in the vault for when it arrives. Thanks

I have been going through a ribbon phase. I am contemplating (possible delusion dreaming) of getting an RCA 44 and/or incarnation for use with predominantly Acoustic duties and Vocals. Does any one have success using this for Vocals? There has been some reviews talking about the huge proximity effect when using 44 incarnations with Vocals up close, so I am wondering if that necessitates a good acoustic room to compensate a further distance for recording. What 44 and/or 44 variations/clones have people here found useful in there actual experiences? Thanks

Just getting my RCA kc2b back from U.K. So looking forward to putting that through some paces. Stewart just fixed my Reslo RB so also looking forward to trying that. Love my Shure 300 and hopefully next week i will have my new 44a clone in my hot hands. Ribbons need a resonably good room to shine.

I have owned some Toft incarnations over the years, ATC-2, Trident series 80b 2 x channel unit.so it would be worth keeping an eye on your progress with these units. Was there any reason why you did not go the "whole hog" with Eq on these as this is what really contributed greatly to the "British sound".

I bought an upmarket tube mic. U67 styled mic. It has a nice tube, a nice transformer and some caps and a long skinny thing but a lot of space in the inside. Most of this is soldered off the end of the capsule. Does this seem normal? Very subjective question I know but I thought it would have more stuff inside. I know the "proof is in the pudding" so to speak but I dont know quite what I was paying for?

So why the use of the ak47 capsule instead of a more traditional 67 style capsule for the m269/u67 sounding mic?

Spoke to them via Email and was told a K6 capsule. That the Shelise now did not have a CK12 capsule. NOw maybe I might have mis-understood, I can be a bit thick sometimes, but I was chasing a K6 not a Ck12 so it suited me fine. I have plenty of C12 alternatives at the moment. If it really concerns any users I would suggest contacting Beesneez and finding out. But yes the current description does lends itself to a C12 styled mic. But hey if I dont like it....then out it goes..

Yes it was but current model must have changed as I was told that the Shelise now has the Custom K6 capsule. beesneezmics.com/studio-series/shelise.htmlSeems a little odd that they dont mention any internal spec's. And yes it seems like a its a big change in a specific model to go from a CK12 to a K6 capsule.
