Tried them quickly (the Slate plugs). They sound nice. Very creamy. Ragan, did you use the Apollo preamps?

My 8X8 fan only came (don't have it anymore) upon start up never once did it kick in. I knew anything more than that I would have to it isolated. Great sounding rig! Might try the MKII

Make sure there isn't mold...that last pic looks like there is mold in the drywall. That stuff will deteriorate your health fast.

I had a friend named Eric C that I use to be in a band with. He was a YOUNG TALENTED IMMATURE SMART ASS. We were recording some songs for a demo and at that time we had a drummer named Jon Wilkes. Eric being the total asshat always gave Jon a hard time about timing (even though he was a really steady hard hitting rock drummer but came off a lil nerdy.) Jon would tell me after practices he was recording in a studio in town with another band and he thought it was really going to be big. 6 months later I turned on MTV to see his face with a band that album was charting and very popular with the younger folk. Jon ended up traveling the world with a band that has done very well...meanwhile Eric C is still a ASSHAT Latte' drinking weiner. bannedchuck don't be Eric C.
Two of my favorite sayings..."Don't be a Dick" and "You're either cool or you're not"
I honestly don't think Chuck is an ass but sometimes he comes off as a lil snarky.
in regards to Revoice...I think it is killer for BGV's. Not everyone plays/sings perfect dubs and Revoice makes tightening quick and easy.

I love this thread!! Keep sharing stories guys, I'll weigh in with a few of my own soon. i can't stress air quality enough! You can't spend long hours in a room with bad ventilation. This has to be planned properly!

Take Tony's advice it's VERY Solid!!! I went through the same process and believe me...you will actually save time by proper planning and doing things right the first time instead of rushing into things and flying by the seat of your pants. By the way, I also agree 100% with Tony about 8ft ceilings...you will never be completely happy with your space. My best recordings have been with higher ceilings and I fight my space with 8ft ceilings...It feels like running a race with someone holding on to my shirt.

This happened to me just yesterday and I thought to myself has anyone else had this problem. It was with getting basic levels listening at lower volumes...Made me feel ridiculously incompetent.

The good thing about the SM7 is it will sit in a mix and that is great for guys novice AE's (like myself...haha) but when you solo it against a good vocal mic you get this look on your face like you just throw up a lil in your mouth.

Website is solid Dan...simple and elegant.
I haven't thought about running out of DAW to the ZOD...pretty cool. For a killer rock tone I like to run it into the CAPI VP28 into the FC 526 or Splice and dial in an aggressive very fat bass tone. I compared it to the Dizengoff D4 and though I think the D4 is very good the ZOD is just awesome. Direct Tele into the same chain and add the LA2A to the end of that chain and it sounds like I mic'ed an amp. The thing is also built like a tank...USPS killed the package literally lost it for 2-3weeks and when it arrived it was beat up so bad that the peanut packing was shredded into tiny pieces but the ZOD worked! Dan has built me the LA2A Clone and the MK-47 and it is all a very clean build.

Doesn't software compressors like to see -18dbfs??? So tracking at -18dbfs makes sense. I don't mind tracking hotter but I usually clip gain levevels back down...does anyone else do this?

Eric Church has a song called Country Music Jesus. If there's anyone who fits that bill, It's Chris. Maybe he can set us back on track if the dimwits at radio will play him. You saw into the future my friend!

Avid 16X16 can be had for $2000 at Alto Music new if you go that route. I agree with John, nothing wrong wit the Burl clock. I've had Ross Martin, Symphony, Burl, Lynx, ,avid Omni and 16X16, UA Blackface and silver and my favorite was the Burl. The Avid stuff is incredible and stable. Symphony sounded fantastic but would have some clicks and pops that we couldn't trouble shoot with tech support. Ross Martin stuff sounds really really great but it ain't built to last and drives me crazy. My opinion would be Avid Omni and 16X16 with a a Burl bomber AD Strapped to it...rock solid and fantastic sounding. I do want to hear the new radar system though?
