Spellbinding. And that doesn't happen very often! Chris Stapleton is indeed a REAL singer. I wish Nashville would just "pack off" with all those losers writing songs about partying and drinking and trucks and crap - the lot of them can barely carry a tune in a bucket.
This is the real deal.

Yep. Ward, I grew up with Chris. He has always been this good. We knew each other from early grade school and played sports together. It wasn't until our 8th grade year that I knew he was interested in music. He and I both had been thumpin on guitars at home privately but wasn't serious about it or playing out yet. It came up in conversation one day and I invited him over to our house for some pickin. I'll never ever forget the first time I heard him open his mouth to sing in my presences. It was Here's A Quarter by Travis Tritt. My jaw hit floor. When he was done, I think I said something like (that was pretty good) but in my mind I was thinking (this kid is better than anyone I've ever heard). And I still havn't heard anyone better. He's got the gift and He's doing exactly what he was put here to do. He's the singer artists line up to see perform there in town but the very sad truth is, I doubt he'll get much air play. He won't sell out and do that bullshit material. It's like he's one born out of due time. If he had been born a decade earlier, he would be the king of country music right now. Eric Church has a song called Country Music Jesus. If there's anyone who fits that bill, It's Chris. Maybe he can set us back on track if the dimwits at radio will play him.

Guys like Chris Stapleton make music that feeds your soul. Country radio has become the McDonald's of music, tastes good but has zero nutrition and is ultimately bad for you.
Ryan Adams have made some incredible, serious country music, and even when veering into commerciality, doesn't get fair airplay. It is a sad a situation. I can only hope that something similar to what happened in New York when AM radio was overtaken by FM radio happens to Country music radio/video. AM played some good things, but few and far between, FM was at the forefront of new music and created their market instead of trying to fit into one. All it takes is one station wiling to be real, and it will catch on, and eventually become the norm.

I'm not entirely certain, but I think every time you mentioned Chris and Eric in the same sentence (whoops, I just did)... an entire species of undiscovered South American butterflies goes extinct. Talk about Light versus Darkness! LOL

Maybe a bit left of center for some, I know? But I really believe this is a great version and performance by a group covering a recently released song, all live in the studio. And since this was a thread about real singers, I believe big Mike fits the bill. (If you can get past the clown suit, I believe you will dig this performance!)
