Depends on what I am going for. I am mostly boosting the gain 3-4 and backing off the output 2-3.

The only problem I have had with SSD was in an external enclosure. Tracking engineer transfered the files to it and did not eject the disc, just unplugged and it killed the drive. I was very pissed.

I used the Mike that came with the Sonarworks package. I could run REW again it would be good to compare; thx ! If it came with it I would hope it's calibrated or has a calibration file that you load into the program.

Are you using a calibrated mic? Do you get the same results in REW? Did you ever calculate your modal response?
The hi frequency drop is probably due to the mic you are using.

Had a chance to really hear the MKID pair out as OH. They sounded great. Nice big live room, really didn't need any of the close mics. I will post up samples when I put the studio back together, since this was a mobile gig. Drummer commented on how good the OH's sounded.

I listened to Kidvybes VO samples. The GZ67 definitely sounds more open, more room sound in the mic. But there's something about the presence of the MKID that I like. I understand that the MKVI is in the same family, just extended top end. Just kinda wondering if that extended top end would be too much for Drums/Vocal work? I'm looking to pick up a pair. What mics are you currently using? I could set a common mic up for comparison. Don't you have a Oktava mod 012?

Man, I've been going back and forth about which mic to pick up, and I just went through and listened to all the files on the other thread. I'm really leaning toward the MKID or the MKVID. There's something smooth that I like with the MKID that I really like, though. I'm looking for something for Drum/vocal duties. I wonder, though, if the MID will end up being too dark? I am doing full kit and elec guitars today. I will post some samples of the MKID as OH and cabinet.

I usually set buffer rates really high because i do everything i can to keep the quality of things up(linear phase plugs, oversampling blah blah), it causes a lot of delay when stop/start editing and mixing, but if i can up the speed that much on pcie SSD drives, it would more than likely take that away.. no? I am on SATA ll SSD's Nehalem mac, that's been upped to 5,1 firmware and 64 gigs of 1333 ram, that pcie SSD has ripping fast data throughput!! look at the well more than double the throughput!! PT12 is now loading the entire mix into Ram so The advantage is going to be at recording.

I really can't imagine needing more then Data III, 6G speeds. Now if your sata buss is not sata III, 6G, then yes the pcie SSD storage cards are going to be huge, and keep your machine running fast. But with proper disc caching now on PT12 I don't see a huge need.

I went from PT9 to 10/12 and all my V.9 plugs worked great except the dither plug which they never upgraded to aax. I did do a clean install. Installed PT then downloaded and installed all my plugs. No issue, but I have heard of some people having issues.
Did you trash preferences and all?

Were they aax? You need V.9 plugs to have Aax. The authorizations may not be in the correct place either, if this has been an upgraded machine and not a clean install.

Since the extreme isolation phones have come up so much for traking. You can order replacement parts on their Website. I replaced the ear cups on mine and then realized how bad they had become. Also the 25db ones are much more comfortable.

Shure 940's, great clarity and bass extention, even if you don't hear it the phones let you feel the low end. Took a while to break in though.

I have been using acetone since Svart mentioned it in another thread. Works great, though I will still use a little dish soap and water to remove the thin residue that happens sometimes. svart, do you use 2 dishes, one with "clean" acetone and the other to clean the brush off in?

Get the mac mini data doubler kit from macsales.com and put a 2nd SSD in. I did it to mine and it's great to not have to worry about an external drive.

My pair of Warbler ID's came today. You all were right, fit and finish is really nice, feels nice and weighty in the hand. Now I need a session to use them on!

Does El Capitan, support firewire, via thunderbolt? I have my Lacie FW drive hanging off my thunderbolt port, I am on Yosemite though. I was a computer engineer in the early 90s, its all easy now compared to then 8) cheers Wiz El Capitan does support FireWire via Thunderbolt. It does on my MacBook Pro. However switching to 'El Capitan' on our non Thunderbolt iMac is not possible as we have a FireWire Lightpipe interface and a pair of FireWire LaCie drives. If Linux supported everything we needed I would build a Linux DAW and dump crApple in a flash. Firewire support is only nixed for core audio interfaces. You can buy a osx disc for any os you want.

My GZ67 just showed up. My buddy got one too and ours are a factory matched pair. First impression is really favorable. It's about like I expected from KV's clips. Very similar to the Warbler I but with just a touch more depth/definition. Which is saying something because the Warbler I is a beast. I'll do some more tests when my buddy's GZ67 shows up. View AttachmentWas hoping that it was going to be the tube version! I would be interested in hearing it side by side with the WI on acoustic and your voice.

I use compression for leveling in the brute force way, but also for transient shaping. For instance, had a bass part with to much hand mute thump/clack... fast attack, fast release, pulling 15db-20db through 1176 plug then ran it through La2a plug for consistency. Worked well enough... for a quick turn around tracking and delivery. Would have rather retracked but there was no time or budget.

Don't know...but I have one coming. I would assume so, given that its a mnats design. I built a rev a -- it sounds great -- exactly like you would hope/expect. Of course, it's a little cramped compared to the 2u version, and I'll always take a VU meter over LEDs, but I doubt you can beat it for an 1176 in 500 series format. I ordered a Rev D. I wonder how the mnat's Rev A sounds against the Don u76 that I built? I may eventually test it out! Figured I did not need 2 Rev A right now.

First post here! Bumping this thread hoping to get some help before i sell these interfaces and moving on to something else... To start, is it only me or is the routing grid a complete mess? I'm very comfortable with routing and different layouts with various digital consoles. But i have to say even the french Innovason consoles got a better layout. Been in touch with Motu support i don't know how many times, some times your lucky finding someone who don't give you solutions like "have you tried digitalperformer" etc. Anyway, here's the problem. Our studio is based around a MCI636 and before the 24i + 24o we had a 24i/o. When tracking cuemix was set up like this: from preamp out > motu in 1 > motu out 1 > ch 1 on MCI in 2 > out 2 in 3 > out 3 etc. For direct, latency free monitoring When mixing we had another preset where all the inputs where muted, only using the outputs. Worked like a charm, 24 channels in and out no problem. We've always been very pleased with the motu, bullet proof. Therefor bought the 24i + 24o. After a lot of emails and some phone calls to support we got a preset file that helped us to set up the same setting with the AVB mixer. We usually work in 48khz, but we had a session where the producer wanted to record in 88.1. No, the AVB mixer cant handle 24 channels in and out in that sample rate and reduce our outputs to 10 (not 100% it was exactly 10, but a lot less..) which means we can't use direct monitoring and setting all the cuemixes from the console? Support says this is correct.... WTF?! DSP cant be the problem? Our 24I/O was capable of doing this? On top of this you pretty often have to restart them because whats going on in the AVB mixer doesn't happen in reality. Sometimes there are digital glitches / sync error sounds in playback, you restart the them and it's gone. Recently it also freaks out on wordclock when you need to change sample rate. That procedure (i've found a way it sometimes works) takes approx 10 minutes... We've had them since May but the time i've spent on troubleshooting these bastards makes me wanna leave motu and move to something else... What DAW? OS?

So far a consensus on the FC526 and the JLM LA500.
More Please!
Of the ones you recommend, what do you find them useful on, or what do they do that you find irreplaceable?
