Sorry if this has been covered before. What are you guys using for headphones? I'm on a pair of Spirit Pro's, which are awesome, but if the cups don't make a seal around the ears, they tend to be bass shy. The earpieces on the Spirit are a little on the small side, and it's not like I've got a big head or anything.
Anyways, looking for a pair to check the low end with. What's good?

love my Focal Spirit Pro's. super love them. I monitor myself recording (singing accompany by AC). have AT ATM-50's. do not like them. they're too big for my head. (you might love them. they might fit you perfect. I know a lot of people love them.)

oh definitely if they're not sealed properly. but I DO seal them properly, and I love them. they have excellent definition, detail, and balance across the spectrum. I truly consider them to be indispensable. I am super happy I bought them (had them for a couple years). I use them everytime I record. also have used them playing my Yamaha XF keyboard. I have been disappointed in soooo many gear purchases. the Spirit Pro's are a super hit with me. ymmv. peace, Charlie 1 more thing: if I've been wearing them for a while, they can hurt/irritate my ears. it might be because of the shape or size of my ears. the cup sizes are not huge, in my opinion. note: I am an amateur. keep that in mind, for anything I ever say.

I have some ATH-50 for the artists, but I use some earbuds while checking mixes.
Panasonic RP-HJE120.. Cheap and amazingly flat sound. Better sound than my Shure in-ears for sure.

Recently moved from K-240 MkII to ATH-M50x - but mostly for bass related reasons. If the K-240's had the extension on the bottom end - I'd prefer them.

For listening and mixing, DT-880 Pro, for tracking Extreme Isolation. Both are excellent in their respective roles. I'm still lusting for the Sennheiser HD800s, but that's another story...

Shure 940's, great clarity and bass extention, even if you don't hear it the phones let you feel the low end. Took a while to break in though.

For listening and mixing, DT-880 Pro +1 . DT-880's have completely cured my headphone lust. Very flat, not overly flattering, comfortable, non fatiguing. Bass is very natural and not hyped.... seems to translate well. I switch back and forth bw these and my PSI A21 monitors, and the presentation is very similar, and mix changes translate between the two very nicely. Not sealed though, so you can't really track with them.

Concerning the DT-880s, I realized they have a pretty heavy drop off in the bass and are hyped at the top. Using the Sonarworks plugin, I got them totally flat and was surprised what a difference that makes..

Using the Sonarworks plugin, I got them totally flat and was surprised what a difference that makes.. I should qualify my statement... "Very flat relative to other headphones I've used." But it does make me curious if there's anything flatter than these out of the box. I haven't compared to many other $300+ headphones.

While playing, Extreme Isolation phones and referencing, Sennheiser HD650's.

For referencing I've been using HD650's and love them. My only regret is that I waited this long to get them. For tracking I personally use some cheap Sennheiser earbuds that some other session guys here turned me on to. I have some of the Extreme Isolation phones as well as typical go to headphones for others to wear. I wear glasses so most tight fitting Isolation type headphones don't work very well for me, and quickly get uncomfortable.
I'm actually about to buy 3-4 new phones for tracking as mine are all getting pretty worn out. Probably going to do the ATM50s.

Since the extreme isolation phones have come up so much for traking. You can order replacement parts on their Website. I replaced the ear cups on mine and then realized how bad they had become. Also the 25db ones are much more comfortable.

I like the Extreme Isolation's as well. They were older sets and I ordered replacement drivers for them which made a noticeable improvement. I usually use my Shure 425's though for convenience/comfort. I also have a few sets of AKG 44. The 44's are pretty good for how inexpensive they are.
