Low profile? Audio Tech ATM450. Side address pencil mic, black. Hides easy & sounds pretty good on most things. Its a little sensitive to wind & mechanical noise. I've used 'em on toms a few times and need to be aware of cymbal position so they don't get blasted... but given the tone & output I'm sure they'd do just fine for choirs & other low/mid volume sources. Thanks I had forgotten about these.

We used to use the low-end KSM LDC (I think a KSM27) for live, acoustic work. I believe Shure dropped it from the KSM family because didn't measure up to the 32 and 44.
- yeah, that's the one! - it might not be smaller profile than your 214, though. It was really good for live work and very durable. We had two that were dropped several times.
I think you might mean SM27 as opposed to the PGA27. As far as I was led to believe, the KSM27 and SM27 are identical, but that's rep speech, and there's a chance that the SM27 is made with more affordable parts than the KSM27. The PGA27, as far as I remember, is basically like the PG58 to the SM58. Similar form-factor, but different sound. (Not meant as a slight though!) If someone else knows the specifics, feel free to correct me, I'm working off memory here. In any case, just adding an additional opinion on the KSM27; we typically kept a couple in the locker for stage use as well. When I suspected stage volume was going to be an issue, I'd usually stick to dynamics and SM81's. OP: When you say smaller profile, is that in attempt to make it less conspicuous to an audience (whether in person, or streaming audience)? They were concerned about the look of it, for both audience and camera.

Looking for a smaller profile alternative to the AKG 214 style mic.
This is for a all round mic for reinforcement and streaming. We are talking choir, special instrument use, handbells, and acoustic guitar. Very little stage/wedge monitoring in use, mostly acoustic.
I know the 214 or similar will work, but the client asked about a lower profile option.

What ever happened to Brad's (LTL) 500 series power supply testing?
There is a thread on here somewhere.

I rebuilt 24ch of my mic/pre amp bay with ground switching TT Jacks. Works great.

Does anyone have any experience with the Zildjian K sweet cymbals? What’s your opinion? Bought the 15" hats and 21" ride for a client... They sound great. I think they are a nice balance for both live and studio. Mic well and never get annoying.

Look at the Bumblebee RM-6 or 5, they can be bought assembled or as simple kits.

Indeed, he normally intros a product as kits then moves them over to production only. The 250's he did a second round of kits at groupdiy. I managed to grab a second pair of the 250's when he did so.

I've long wanted a pair of these: shinybox.com/product/guillotine/They've been offered only sporadically over the last 2-3 years. I reached out to the company recently, and there's a Covid-related supply chain issue that precludes their manufacture. Jon said he had most of the parts to build several, but not all...and they wouldn't be forthcoming anytime soon. This reminded me of this option too: However their website appears to be down..so not sure about that. Looks like they are redoing it. only $229 for that though. Features: - Variable Low-Pass Filter (2.3 kHz to 35 kHz) - Variable High-Pass Filter (22 Hz to 1 kHz) - 12 dB or 6 dB selectable slope for each filter section - Bump on the HPF (3dB resonance at the cutoff frequency) - Individual bypass switches for each filter section - Electronically balanced input & output - Ultra linear frequency response (Butterworth filters) Also...duh.. A Louder Than Lift Off Chopshop EQ is probably one of the cooler options. Bit more expensive though. But also a tilt EQ that is great so maybe more useful in general. I have a couple of these kits...one of the projects that I need to get to!

Well, after 34 months I have in my possession an ADG.
It looks like it survived mostly unscathed... One of the output transformers became loose and was sliding around. I will pop the top and tighten it up before powering it up tomorrow.

I am running the ART and it works. Lots of flexibility. Only issues I have with it is it gets hot and it can sound thin with some headphones. Plenty loud though for full band tracking in the same room. Thanks, mulmany. Loud is good as long as it's clean; any issues there? I'll know to leave a space in the rack with it if I go this route. Which ART model do you have? I was looking at both: headamp 6 and headmp 6 pro. artproaudio.com/product-category/headphone-amps/Many thanks, -09 I have the headamp 6 pro. I have not had anyone complain unless I was overdriving the input, but there is master level meters and meters on each channel. I drive direct sound ex-xx, Sony's, and Shure 940's no problem. My deaf drummer/singer songwriter friend is the only one that goes past 12 o'clock.

I didn’t realize you worked at Showplace. I didn’t hear of Ben’s passing until months after unfortunately. That console was pretty cool you could keep feeding it and it would just take it and not blow up! Did he have the pair of black germanium Neve channel strips while you were there? The black 1058... no... but I had used them. Those were owned by Jason Corsaro and he brought them along when he booked the room. Ben got them after Jason passed away. I live somewhat near the studio and it's closed for good. Happened to drive past in October and there was a for sale sign on the building... the Mozart & some other stuff was listed on reverb. Not sure what happened with all the outboard. I started at Showplace as an intern. Got promoted to house engineer when the guy in front of me left in the middle of a session for smokes and never came back! So odd you guys started to talk about Showplace... I interned there in '03 as part of CRAS. I ended up having some family stuff come up and moved back home, Ben wanted to keep me on. I tried to dig up any current info on the studio a bit ago and could not find anything. I suspected it closed. Sorry to hear about Ben's passing.

I am a fan of Canare GS-6. It has a braided shield and have been using it for years. Never have noise issues. I made some with neutrik and a few with switchcraft ends.

If they are in cases you should be good. Just don't throw your mics on the ground. Metal becomes more brittle when its really cold.😁

it's not outboard summing if you are summing in the box and than running that through a stereo chain ... You may find you get the sonic results you seek running a 2 bus chain for flavour over an analog summing box but it's not technically outboard summing? It’s using the exact same box but only 2 channels of it versus 8-32. It’s still outboard summing, just less of it. Well, summing by definition is addition... So 2trk out summed is mono😎

It was always my understanding that the tlm 103 was designed for distance micing in orchestral situations, like film scoring. It was designed with very low self noise for that reason.
Hmm...just read the blurb on Neumann's site, it was designed to replace the U87! I have not recorded with one but have mixed both the 102/103. Definitely a modern cutting vocal, the 103 also feels less universal in application.

That's a laptop/pc cable. Some pc audio cards had a optic port at the back of the headphone jack. Most of the cables I have seen like that, the 1/8 end would unscrew or pop off revealing a standard toslink end.

I like the Chambord Audio CA-250. Based on a Sontec, but pared down to 4 bands. I use mine all over the place.

Yeah I looked at that but would rather not tie up a smart device...I like dumb ones that don't break.
I may just end up with an app on a old iPad, but I would really like a foot switch or pad.
