Not much help, but I go back/forth sometimes (on three sessions today actually) between PT and Logic and found that the AAF format works much better. OMF has been buggy for me. AAF very stable. Wouldn't bet that playlists or take folders (logic) would be possible to export though.. or is it? I always explode takes to new tracks before exporting. Would be super happy to learn a short cut.. :-)

Sorry for posting this here, but I've been considering selling my pair of Alactronics mod LA-4s. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the mod. Bought after Fletched hyped it on GS. Sounds good, but after building a pair of Serpent SA-3s and having my rack full something has to go.. PM if interested!

Oops, I'm doing it again. Back in Cape Town! Sure this country has it's history, has loads of issues and you see a lot of heartbreaking poverty. But jeeeez I love this region. Only have one day left before returning to cold and dark Sweden. Jan/Feb will be crazy, so this break was well needed.

I'm also not entirely comfortable with that word "easily" in the thread title... I thought about that too.. However, thinking about the LA-2 build I did a couple of years ago, nothing in the actual build was particularly difficult, except attaching the logo on the faceplate, that was the trickiest by far, but that wasn't Martin's LA-2 case but one from an italian guy on GDIY. The hardest part for me, as a relative DIY noob, was getting the overall picture of the project and get all parts right, all without a real guide or build manual. Christian Whitmore helped me a LOT.

Giving this a bump as it is a must listen to test. I still dig the AMS-Neve units by quite a bit over the others. I was hoping the Don Classics NV73s would be the same but they dont do what the AMS units do. Doesn't look like the files are there anymore, unfortunately. Ah yes, Dropbox changed something on using public files recently. I just pasted in a new link to the same file in my original post. Hope it's working now

Since it's from Sweden and I've heard about it for a long time during development and all I guess I should say something. When I first heard one of his prototypes I wasn't impressed. But he got it out to all the major cats and studios here and got feedback and worked hard to improve. Then when this was released many studios bought it and swears by it. I've not been bitten by the bug yet but think it sounds just fine. I've used on drum overs with good results. I've also toured like 100 gigs since last year with Sweden's most prominent drummer (Per Lindvall, who btw as very young played on the late ABBA stuff) who uses it live for his own monitoring, a pair placed just above his head, only routed to the musicians monitoring, giving a pleasant picture of he whole kit except the kick, so that's what I listened to too, and it always sounds great. But Per's sound (tuning and timing) is out of this world so it's hard to tell what is what. But still, he must be the most recorded musician in Sweden and he chose these so that's a testimonial I guess..

Wow, this new unit by Don classics looks amazing, I would be curious as to how it will sound. His 500 series NV73 sounded good, but i still preferred the AMS-neve that heard shot out with it. To me it looks exactly as the components in the NV73eq. Without asking David it's impossible to know if he changed anything in the circuit, but I doubt it

Love your rack winetree! While talking ADL, for the few members from EU, there's an ADL1500 (b-stock) for a really nice price at KMR right now. I really like Anthony's optos. They hug in a very musical way, me thinks.

Follow up on the Sonic Farm Beamer I ordered last week. Came yesterday. Very well packed, top notch and beautiful build and some cool options that really affect the sound, for instance the option to switch the output transformer in/out, which you can really hear. When ordering you can even choose Ni or Fe in the o/p transformers. I chose Fe for more colour when wanted. Though at first test today I preferred the output switched to the solid state setting. Zoran and Boris have been nice and easy to deal with. Solid and serious. If you're shopping for a tube pre it's worth checking out: www.sonicfarm.com

I've played some more with my single REDD.47 (the pre). Also just got the Beamer from Sonic Farm (Canada). Those channels are lovely too and less than half the price of the REDD. The SF stuff have some really cool and smart options, but when setting up plain clean settings there's something sooo pleasant, natural and effortless with the REDD.47. Despite that flame in the logo (sorry, just had to..) I'm liking it more and more, and could be looking at getting a couple more if/when finances allow.

do you use the bpm plug to approximate tempo at first ? didn't know there was one, thx for the tip! no, i just use the metronome on my iphone. has a tap function. doesn't need to be super accurate, it's just to avoid very drastic tempo changes at the start of the mapping. and provides a good count off if you need one

It works on midi tracks too. When I write string arrangements I usually get a rough mix of the song. When it's done without click I check the approx tempo at the start of the song, place the audio region of the rough mix so the 1st beat line up with 1st beat of a bar in logic, then record a midi track by playing 4ths or 8ths along with the rough mix and let beat mapping analyze the tempo. This way when the arrangement is done in Logic and artist/producer has approved, exporting a midi file makes an easy transition to Sibelius or any other score app.

I played a gig at an amusement park yesterday night and got a free pass to all roller coasters and stuff, so I did this from 80 meters.. Did NOT dare to look down like that though! Btw, the side of the stage is seen in the vid just 10 meters from the foot of the tower. And the short panorama over the water in beautiful Stockholm also gives a glimpse of the location of my home, on the hill behind and between the two big boats to the right, so I see the same view from the other side of the water! The area where I live and have my studio is called Södermalm, where like 80% of all musicians and artists live, and the place I grew up and call my home If you come to Stockholm you have to spend at least one day/evening in the area. The Old Town is a must too, but Södermalm is less touristic and has...ambience!

Can you share the shootout unit7 I'd love to hear it. AMS 1084 is a great pre. Hmm, have to check with my buddy. We did Free Fallin.. :-) started with him strumming with thumb, tempo all over the place and all overdubs trying to follow that guitar, no re takes no edits. It's not beautiful. Could perhaps share the instrument tracks but I'm pretty sure he doesn't want me to spread his vocal track

bowie hooked me up with some excellent NOS Telefunken tubes for my Tab-Funkenwerk V72S. Old school, quality glass is not cheap, but worth it. Beautiful! I'm in a tube pre mood too, totally! Got the Chandler REDD which sounds glorious and also ordered Sonic Farm Beamer that hopefully will arrive in a week or two.

I've been considering a luxury tube pre for the important stuff like lead vocals, wondering if it would provide something extra. The swedish Chandler distributor had one unit for 20% off so I took it.
Did a shootout with a friend today with my AMS/Neves. He suggested we should very quickly lay down a couple of tracks to listen how the pres compared in an arrangement. Took two Schoeps (one routed to the REDD and the other to the 1084) placed as close togeteher as possible and tracked two acoustics, bass and some percussion. Then did the same on vocals with two Flea 49s. This turned out to be the best A/B I've ever done. After grouping in PT we could easily switch between pres. I also put Waves Puigtech at the bus and added some treble, just to hear the different 'sparkle' I got from the pres.
We were both very impressed by the REDD. Not night and day, but still richer, more effortless and more natural than the AMS/Neve. Keeper!
Haven't tried to push it. Not really the style I'm doing usually so not that interested, but got some really good info and directions from Adam today for trying later. I don't hear the forwardness or bite that I've read about in threads. Could be a thing people hear when they push it. To me it sounded simply very pleasant. Recommended!

When you created the midi file from the earlier version of the song, did you select only the regions to be exported and then choose the command 'export selected regions as midi file'? (not sure about the exact name of that command, but it's found under File/export)
The last time I did something like this I had both song versions open in Logic, selected all regions to be moved, copied to clipboard ( command C), opened the new version, made sure the track order was the same (empty of course), put the song pointer at the first bar of the regions copied and on the target tracks selected the track on top and then pasted (command V)

This surprises me. I've been in touch with Bill a couple of times and never had a glitch. First time was when I asked for some free advice when building my LA2. The last time was an order of five T4Bs. Fast on both email and delivery. Well, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but facts are facts. And I am very disappointed. Sooo...alternate facts it seems... Sorry! just had to.. Seems this will be sorted out!

The SA3A came before the Chimera. No, get them from kenetek or another suggested supplier listed in the group DIY build thread Be careful shopping there!! I ordered two of their T4Bs from their website, 3 months ago and nothing has shown up yet, And yes my credit crd was charged, This surprises me. Have been back and forth about getting a U47fet style mic, Wunder, Horsch, Bock or even DIY, but just the other day decided to go for the original while they're still making the RI. Cost a little extra, but I reckon if I'll have to get rid of it in the future it'll keep it's value. And soundwise...even though some people seem to like some of the clones better, and others, like our revered Professor Dumbledore and the allmighty Doctor, are not that fond of the Neumann, I know I've gotten a kick every time I've heard it on kick :-) Very nice on double bass too. We have 2 of the original FET47's, and I absolutely adore them. They are fantastic on bass drum, and despite what others seem to say, they are a great vocal mic as well. I know for a fact they have been used to cut vocals on many a big rock record. Have fun with it! Thanks Jeremy! Encouraging! Actually, the night before ordering the FET I watched an Oasis documentary aired on swedish TV with a clip with Liam in the studio singing Wonderwall into...guess what :-) I was like...ok ok I get it :-)
