Awesome. I have two and they are in constant use. There were only a few made. I'd absolutely love another pair.....

Are the controls any different? I think I remember that being the reason they were discontinued for bit... Have always wanted to the the Serpent Audio offerings. I like the rev a and rev d idea that is featured in this offering and the 19"...

I think there may be a couple of bells & whistles on the 19" rack that this doesn't have. The reason Mike quit making these was because power up draw exceeded VPR specs and they are freaking difficult to build. (They are easily by FAR the most complex and dense 500 series modules I have ever seen - and I've seen a few) Hopefully he has figured out solutions to both issues. Super happy to see a REAL 1176 in 500 series again. Woooohooooooo!!!!

Just played with these on drums and briefly compared to my Purples and Hairball A & D (rack versions). Agree with the Doctor, very nice indeed! Seems you shouldn't be shy on letting the GR meter move on this one. Super impressive that he managed to cram all those features in the 500 version. Also great to finally have my 1176 needs covered without using too much rack space. Recommended!

I have a pair of the V1s with the needle-based meter. I have a feeling that meter is the reason he was so cramped on space, as the new revision uses an LED meter instead. I'm glad he brought them back, they really are amazing pieces of gear!

KMR in the UK had a sale of the 19" Splice at the same price as this new 500 MK2.
Unfortunately I missed out but at £1080 it was a huge bargain for the rack unit which is normally £1500!
I'm sure I'll still be happy with this MK2 500 version - hopefully it sounds as good as the rack version?

The reason I got these is because I LOVE the HB rev A (built with carbon resistors) and was considering building a stereo unit mostly aimed for drum paralel. The Don Classics is great but I'm not 100% happy with it on drums. And for rack space reasons this was such a great solution. Got the Splice to sound at least as good as the HB. Then add the extra features. Wow :-)

That's a good question for dandeurloo . I know the answer though.... Dude... Well, I can tell you the serpent splice blows it away, but that would be second hand and not relevant because I don't have a long standing history of building 1176's like dan does. So again, why don't you ask Dan yourself. When he builds the kits, they don't end up with the stock parts.

OK, I get what you mean now. I will ask him, then, good call. Still I have made a deposit for a Stam SA-76, so we'll see...

Still I have made a deposit for a Stam SA-76, so we'll see... if you've got the money to get the best, the Splice is all that and then some.... Not sure of the price difference between the splice and the stam, but for me, the rev. A in the splice was worth the entire price and more. Mike's build ethic, customer service and attention to detail are not matched by any other builder IMO.

Josh did cut me such a deal on the SA-76 that I could not let this one pass. That is just delaying the Splice, not replacing it.

Didn't change anything in the design, just tried to choose the kind of components considered to be the closest to the original blue stripe, carbon resistors, orange drop capacitors etc.

Ok, thanks. I compared the HB rev A with stock components I built to the Proreplicas one, and soundwise, the Proreplicas was a tad thicker. The HB could get too thin and too noisy. Not by much, but still. I hope the Stam will be as good as the Proreplicas, and the Splice, with the choise between revisions seems killer.
