Since I don’t really have a shop space and have been playing around with a couple of near field designs so I was looking at track saws. Was all set to bite the bullet and grab a Festool when I walked in and got to play with the new Kreg. Is it as good as the Festool? Well damn close and $300 bucks in my pocket so I’m happy. Now to build some racks and speakers. Now I want a CNC! Report back on the Kreg! Got a few of their various jigs. They make great stuff, especially the Blum undermount set. I've got the big Festool track saw though and it's pretty amazing. Invaluable when working with sheet goods and angles on large pieces. I've got the Festool too. When I first got into remodeling work, many years ago, I thought, "this thing would save a helluva lot of time on sheet goods, I should get it now if I'm ever going to...start racking up the time savings..." That turned out to have been a great decision.

Why not just, like, a used GAP Pre73 or something that can be as dirty or clean as you want into some kind of budget comp to level it out? RNLA or some other small footprint box. Or an Alesis MicroLimiter. One of my favorite gritty, lofi levelers (shh, don’t drive the price up though, I want a couple more). I was actually looking at the Gap Pre73 jr which has an insert and thinking about pairing that with the PBC-6A from FMR. That GAP looks fairly rugged in that enclosure. That would be like a $500 solution that could also double as some mobile outboard if I ever venture out more than 40 miles from my house ever again. For sure, and just some useful stuff for your studio in general.

I had a PBC-6a years ago. It was cool. I’d like to try one or two of them again.

Didn't like the 560A. Sent them back. Finally got the RNC, which was my first decent compressor many years ago. Part nostalgia, part that I like their action, but I dig these little things. Especially on drums. Might get another.

Grabbed an RNC. Been years since I sold mine off. I don’t know if it’s nostalgia or just that they’re cool but I love these things. Particularly on drums, which is where this one will live (room mics).

I think Slate got out over his skis on the promises. Developing stuff is expensive and getting people on the rental and then partnering with devs who've already come up with stuff seems to be the focus. Slate itself did the LA-2a this last year-ish. Have they developed any other plugins recently?
And who knows, maybe the rental and lots of partnerships are the way to go, from a business perspective.

And it’s not even “summing” at all. That is entirely handled by the DAW. It’s just distortion. Can sound cool for sure, but it’s just a drive plug-in, no summing. Does VCC have crosstalk like SDRR2 Desk, Lindell 80 Bus (50 bus has none), or Fuse TCS-68? Probably on the stereo mixbus plug. Still isn’t ‘summing’ any more than any other stereo plug instance. When it first came out, people were thinking the instances actually fed audio to one another and ‘summed’.

It’s really just software summing and console distortion. I’d focus on learning console 1 and if you are unhappy then consider vcc. And it’s not even “summing” at all. That is entirely handled by the DAW. It’s just distortion. Can sound cool for sure, but it’s just a drive plug-in, no summing.

Here lately I have been on a big James Gang and Joe Walsh (solo, not w the Eagles) kick. The James Gang is pretty much what a band should sound like to me and Joe Walsh solo stuff is just masterful to my ear. Damn straight! Man Joe Walsh is a hero of mine. I echo everything you said.

What kind of power are you looking for? The Analog Discovery setups are incredible bang for the buck. Used them a lot in school and have been meaning to grab one for myself.

Apologies for not reading the whole thread but did you manually calc the roundtrip latency (at the buffer you're working at, it changes with the buffer size) with like a printed audio click track and then enter that (in ms) in the hardware insert delay comp settings?

I know max's transformer gets slammed a lot but , Its the best guitar amp mic Ive ever used , almost like a ribbon . I have a DU67 with his transformer and one with a Moby. The Tab BV12 was very bright and the moby is less so but still bright . Ive also experimented with a lot of tube types and find quiet NOS varieties dont vary too much in sound to me - TF silver/mullard/valvo . Both mics have neumann k67 caps . Strangely transformer swaps have made the biggest difference . Yeah, I'm gonna live with the stock transformer for a while before I make a decision on whether or not to swap the BV12. At the end of the day though, I imagine I'm still going to basically just want a 1:1 U67 sound. That being said, Ragan posted clips of an acoustic guitar some time ago that was taken with what I think was the stock MK67 transformer. I thought that clip sounded fucking fantastic. So, who knows. I might end up sticking with the stock transformer. Ragan, when did you swap out your transformer on your MK67? I loved the mic with the stock transformer too. Anything I've posted here would have been with that. It's dark and you may find yourself fighting the low mids some, but it was still the best mic I'd ever had. The Neumann/Moby clear up the low mids and open up the top, in very slightly different ways from one another. It's still a very smooth, mellow mic, it's just got more life to it with the Neumann/Moby. I, like you say, just wanted it as close to classic U67 as possible and the transformer is really the only place Max's design diverges from that.

Ah, maybe I am misunderstanding , but if both transformers are designed for the circuit, isn’t it just two or four wires and securing the transformer, zip tie, glue gun ? Max’s transformer doesn’t have leads and is a little different configuration. It’s a pain in the ass to get the Neumann/Moby installed.

No, I ask for the discounts, I’ve just never asked/talked about the financing options. Hmmm.... Maybe I'm going to start being more pushy with my guy. It's not like I haven't spent a ton of money with him. My experience with this rep is I just email him and say “I’m thinking about getting _______, what’s the best you can do?” And so far, on hardware anyway, he’s always shot me back a quote with a solid discount from website price. But again, it’s a new rep. I’ve only bought a few things from him. I also haven’t asked for deals on smaller stuff like picks and strings and whatnot.

The financing part (for me) always just comes up as an option in the payment process, if I’ve opted to use the SW consumer CC. There’s always a couple of no interest financing options I can use if I want. I’ve never, like, tried to negotiate it with a rep. Oh, so you're not asking the rep for a discount, he's just giving it to you? No, I ask for the discounts, I’ve just never asked/talked about the financing options.

My old Sweetwater rep kind of sucked. My new one is good (so far). He’ll always give me a better price than the regular listed/street price. In combination with financing? On a non-funny note: If anyone wants Metric AB for $15 use these two codes 2021-12-25ET?97wf91fQR ($25 voucher) XMAS21-METRIC (expires soon) Whoa. Get this if you (generic 'you', meaning anybody) don't have it. This is a desert island plug for me. Wouldn't want to mix without it.

Yeah that’s been an issue from the beginning. When I click the quote button, I always see the quote text and then at the end it has quote bracketed. When I type outside of that, I’m outside the initial quote. I’ve had times where the bracketed quote thing was farther down the page and I accidentally typed before it, but I haven’t seen any issue with it being weird. Yeah it’s only an issue if your cursor gets inside the quote bracket while there’s nothing typed outside of it. So say you start a reply, then mid first sentence you decide to change it. If you’re deleting the first sentence and you accidentally delete one space too far, the cursor will jump up into the quote bracket and you’ll be locked in. You’ll have to refresh the page to get out of the quote bracket.

There's one specific issue, the quotation system can get a bit funky sometimes and doesn't allow you to reply outside of the quote. I just leave the message, scrabble something random at the bottom so it doesn't lock. But I've seen responses within the quotation and now the expand function hides it completely. Any way to fix it? Yeah that’s been an issue from the beginning.
