I have yet to use the Massenburg/Core library on any project. I can't deal with that comical cathedral sound glued to everything. The other stuff is awesome. Decades, the Eddie Kramer, Hansa, Fields of Rock. Some older stuff is awesome too. I've always dug Indiependent (recorded at a studio I often rent gear from, Avast! Recording). Some of the older stuff has great sounds in it too. Custom and Vintage, Southern Soul, UK Pop. I do a lot of blending and layering of kits. It's a playground.

My critique of the MIDI loops in general is that the vast majority of them are too busy and too particular for my taste. IMO, the loops seem to be created by drummers to excite other drummers, rather than created by drummers to assist band leaders or songwriters. The edit play style feature is really slick and easy for dialing back MIDI loops that are too busy: I’ve never touched any of the MIDI grooves but that’s cool

SD3 is really an amazing tool. It's a playground. There's stuff I like better about acoustic drums, but SD3 let's me track keeper drums in silence and then play with mics and combinations to my heart's content.

I like good dynamics a lot. I like slower transients, I like more forgiving high end, I like a meaty midrange. I usually go with the 67 for vocals, but when I track a lead vocal track, I almost always have the 441 up too. Sometimes I just like what the 441 is doing for the energy of a given vocal and it's the winner. I also always have an RE50 up (over and in front of my right shoulder, facing down) when I track acoustic guitar. I love what that mic adds in that context. I like SM7s too, they're really enjoyable to sing through.
And on snare or electric guitar cab? My ear still picks a 57 as sounding 'correct'. Ok, on snare I like the 441 better sometimes. On bass cab, I like an RE20. LDCs don't do it for me in any of those roles. I dunno, what's not to like? Dynamics are rad.

And the current housing price paradigm is driven but the underlying fundamentals, not insane banking products like in ~2008. There’s just too much demand and not enough supply. It’s not a ‘bubble’ in the common way we use that term. I was flipping houses before I went back to school. Great when you sell, absolutely terrible when you buy.
Really sorry to hear about your space, Jesse. Hang in there man.

So tempted with this one, but I'm reeeeaaally hoping Kit Plugins has a Blackbird API on the docket for this year. They've insinuated as much. The N105 is so good... Oh really? What have they said?

ragan think we had talked about this at one point…but I bought the Mako ACS-1…even with the upgraded FW it kindve pales in comparison to the Iridium. There’s a direct sound to it that I really don’t like. Also - the Ages pedal (from the same company) sounds pretty bad in front of it. Strange. Man I can't remember that Mako ACS-1 being on my radar. What context were we talking about it in? Either way, nice board. The Iridium is such a rad tool. Hard to beat in that paradigm.

Got the RNLA yesterday. Ran some quick tests. It’s cool. Sounds really good on drum rooms, acoustic guitar, and piano. The FMR stuff is such bang for the buck. Time to dust off my RNC again. As you know it's not a balanced unit. What type of cables did you use to connect it up? I’m just using TS cables with the RNC and RNLA, going into my TRS patchbay. It’s fine. With these runs of a few feet, there isn’t much differential cancellation to do anyway. Levels are fine as well.

Like lots of other people are saying, the "big console sound" we all love/chase almost universally comes from records that were made with a whole team of people, all of them very good at their roles (including the people who designed the rooms), working together. The idea that a console will deliver That Sound (I am as tempted to believe it as anyone else) is, I think, largely illusory. I think the most overlooked (because it's the hardest to change) factor is the room.

That was very well said and I appreciate very much this perspective! I hope we can all leave it at that and go out on a good note instead of stirring up a hornet's nets again. 🙏🏼 Apropos analogy. We had a good-size Bald-Faced Hornet's nest in a tree in our front yard this fall. About 12' off the ground. Normally I'd take a shot at removing something like that myself. But after some research and finding out how agressive they are, how they swarm, how far they will follow you, the fact that they repeatedly sting, and based on the size of the nest there were likely a thousand workers in there, I got the wallet out and paid an exterminator. After standing inside and watching him repeatedly approach, spray and run 20 yards, then spray out the window of his truck and quickly drive down the street, I knew I made the right decision. There are some things better left alone. ;-) When I was a young dude, I worked on wildfire crews in the summers. Bald-faced hornets are all over in the mountainous, woody pacific northwest here. Man, lemme tell you, you made the right call! Those SOBs are MEAN.

Wanted to bump this so anyone else can still grab it while it's on sale. I agree with the above statements, this thing is amazing. Swapping out all the Pro-Q3's in a session with this removed so much digital hash I was a bit shocked. My quick take is it's like all the good stuff of MAAT Blue and Equilibrium with the quick workflow of Pro-Q3. What’s the sale price vs regular price?

These are bitchin'. They're big and dirty/punchy. Assertive use of outboard in the tracking. Lots of color. I really like the vibe.

Yep; I’ve got Hansa and Eddie Kramer and now I want this one. Sheesh. I’ve got those too, along with Decades. I love em all. But I always want more kits. There are generally 2-3 kits I really like in a given SDX. And honestly, ~$150 for a few more kits I really like…with all the mics, that I can mix like I would any drums, and have at my fingertips for any performance I want to lay down on the V Drums, silently, while my kids sleep above me…is just a steal.

I’ve never truly loved any cans, but the ones I keep coming back to using are the good ol’ AT m50s. You turned me on to those (now discontinued) Sennheiser HD6 'phones last year, dude, and I really enjoyed them this year. They're great tracking and location headphones. I got two sets, in fact. They do get a bit tight on the head, but that has to be part of their lack of bleed. Yes indeed! The HD6 are awesome. I still use them for anything loud. I didn’t recommend them just cause you can’t get them anymore. And the tightness on the head (which is worth the trade off to me when I want that isolation). I love their sound. Flat and beautiful.

I somehow missed this when it came out a couple months ago. I think these sound awesome. Really like the kicks and general ambience. The "Godfather", "Evil Disco", and "When In Chrome" kits would see a lot of use over here. Think I'm gonna get it.

I can’t ever stay logged in on my iMacs unless I leave the tab/window open. It stays logged in on my iPhone and Windows machine. This is on Edge (iMacs and Windows) and Safari (iPhone) so it’s not just a browser issue.
