Also worth noting that more stuff than we think is actually made, or partly made, in China. It’s not a coincidence that suddenly everyone will come out with a C800 clone (usually about 2mo after 3U comes out with theirs…) or a cheap LA2a or whatever. There is functionally no IP in China so when people farm out the engineering and/or assembly (even if they don’t tell us about it) that design, or little variations of it, is going to start going out the door under the names of anyone that has the right contacts and can meet minimum order quantity.

Warm Audio is a good, smart company that fills a valid niche in the pro audio world. People have been whining about them since they came onto the scene because they're (I'm going to use a cringe-fully overused term here) disruptive. You didn't used to be able to get an 1176 of any kind for less than, what, $1500? There's like $200 worth of parts in an 1176. They're not doing the same thing as the high end boutique companies, that's a different niche. But to be able to get solid hardware that works and offers a lot of the sonics of the classics for blue collar money is cool. I've still got a pair of WA76 and they do a great job. I had and liked the WA412 (also had/liked a pair of WA12 when they first came out) and I've had lots of other Warm stuff that's come and gone. I understand the difference between them and, say, Chandler, or even Stam/Audioscape. It's a different thing. Difference in paradigm, difference in design/manufacturing process, difference in sonics. But I think there's way too much cork-sniffing about Warm Audio. If you've got a studio full of high end gear that you've spent decades amassing and love dearly...great, Warm is not for you. For my wants/needs, companies like Stam/Audioscape/IAA are the go-to. But if you're starting out, or just on a tighter budget, Warm Audio has a lot to offer, in my view. Actually they do claim they do exactly the same as the boutique brands but at a lower price. Meets same quality and sound expectations according to their founder, clip time 0:20-0:40 on the video. This is the type of advertising that doesn’t intrigue my trust in a company. Of course. Marketing is marketing. I wasn't saying they don't claim to be doing the same thing as high $$$ boutique companies, I was saying that they aren't. It's a different paradigm, regardless of the ad copy.

Delay comp shouldn't be any better on HDX than native, right? This is a different issue than how much latency the artist hears while tracking (which is obvs where HDX shines). Delay comp is a simple matter of the DAW knowing how many samples of delay were present while a given track was being recorded, and nudging it accordingly. Should be dead simple and consistent across DAWs.

I finally went back to tracking my vocals through hardware and it is so much more enjoyable, from the perspective of me as the singer and the perspective of me as the guy mixing/producing it.

I couldn’t really find the ‘special’ in this when I demo’d it. Not sure if I was using it in the way that’s supposed to bring that out though. It seemed like kind of an odd setup. I should give it some more time because some people seem to really dig it.

I have one of these plugs. I guess it’s the MKI? I have always really dug it for delay and modulation. It has a distinct liquid kind of sonic footprint that my ear recognizes immediately from lots of classic tracks.
