Got some devistating news this week. Landlord is giving me the boot. His business is also in my building and he needs to expand his business into my space, so I'm out. Gotta be out the door on March 1.
I've spend the past 4.5 years building my business in this space. Tons of hours. Long nights. Just a total grind to keep it alive, all while working a day job and spending time with my kids. Survived through Covid and the business is finally doing pretty well. Even added a Rupert Neve 5088 in September. All to get snatched away.
Spent the week scouring the internet for spaces, but can't find anything even remotely affordable, plus anywhere will require a build out in a space that I don't own. I'm totally at a loss on what to do.
Considering trying to build a building on my mother's property, but have no idea what kind of cost of be looking at. Probably won't be a realistic number. Totally devistated.

That's terrible news, really sorry to hear it your studio has been an inspiration. Probably to a lot of people, not just me. I'm struggling to find something positive to say, other than you're so tenacious maybe you'll find another way to keep going.

I'm sorry Jesse. That's just a terrible situation for you. I got the boot from my space in 2020 and have been working to find something I can handle ever since. The closest I've come is trying to convince a friend to let me share her space. We're not there yet, but I might be in there this year. I'm recording people remotely at the moment.

Sorry to hear that man. I really wish you luck finding a good space. Perhaps there’s a local realtor who can help?

So sorry to hear that. My partners and I went through something similar years ago and it was really tough. I hope something even better works out for you.

Sorry to hear, Jesse. You did a great job with that space. It really is beautiful. I hope you find a space soon. Don't think end of the road. Think fork in the road.

jcoutu1, in an industry increasingly occupied by lowlifes and narcissistic ne'er-do-wells who don't even have a passion for music, you are one of the outstandingly good guys. Your passion for your craft and your insistence on quality -- all while actually completing projects -- are an inspiration. While I find it increasingly difficult to believe we live in a moral universe, I do believe there is still good in the world. I will be holding out hope and sending love and light your way in the days and weeks ahead: Hope that a solid, workable solution will present itself, perhaps even unexpectedly. And soon at that. Peace, brother.

Truly devastating news. I'm so sorry for you, bro.
If your mom's property is close to where you've been working, you should investigate that idea. Consult with a good designer (Jeff Hedback comes to mind) and get a solid quote from a reputable contractor and see if you can put a plan together. Sometimes silver linings come from the darkest of clouds.
Blessings and namaste my friend.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I've been through it. 'Couldn't get a new spot in my city but ended up in a nearby city and all worked out. Maybe expand your search area? Or look for an existing studio who you can partner with. Share space, gear and rent. Or maybe they have an empty room. Best of luck!

March 1st? Geez. Is there any way to get that extended? At least buy a little time?

That really stinks! You do great work -- I've seen/heard your videos.
I think building something is your best bet. Maybe even keep it simple at first with a unified live/control room to start. You can always build-in a control room later as funds are available.
Good luck!

I don’t have any real words of wisdom and in these situations it’s often hard to sound encouraging without sounding trite. Just know that I am sending all the positive energy I can your way.

I'm so sorry to hear this Jesse. I know how much hard work and love you poured into your space. This is why businesses ask for 15 year leases I guess.
I'm in a different, but similar situation. I have to leave my place I've been in since 2001. Post divorce, I can't afford it alone. I have to leave by March 31st, and have no idea where I'll land, or if I'll land safely.
My thoughts are with you and I hope you manage to find a way through such an unfortunate situation. You deserve something good.

Sorry Jesse, maybe reach out to capi, re cost estimates as he is building a new combo home, production site built , I know different than a studio space, but maybe it would give you some insights. Is there anything we can do to help in the search, like if you shared your basic requirements, search area and budget, I m’d be happy to do some online sleuthing. I used to work as an information officer, gimme a search task, I become the dog without my bone !

plinker got me thinking! My pal in town Andy built a little outhouse on his property... think he said the whole construction cost him like $2,000 or something like that. Just sell one or two pieces of your high end gear and you can finance a DIY build like this. Check it out, Giraffe Studios, the guy is a busy engineer working full time: www.facebook.com/giraffestudio

Wood has been going up up up in price.
