Like that "Frankie" guy? Honestly, not really my bag...but it's amazing. Great playing. Bits of Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Guthrie Govan and others in there but a very unique attack and phrasing . . . both almost Beck like at times.

I've recorded one a few times and other guitars made of koa. All sound great to me, tonally similar to mahogany

Also, Steely Dan: horns: omg so tight, tight, tight, melodic and so musical !!! Where have I been ? Listening to country music? What a second . . . what country music? You mean 70s rock, 80s rock, or pop . .. with a put-on southern accent?

Hot day- made some nice daiquiri riffs... Undosed aged rum blend Fresh Cara Cara orange juice Lime Juice Orgeat with Orange Blossom Water Orange Bitters. Delicious. You still in Kentucky? Wife and I are going to do a roadtrip from Nashville through Kentucky soon-ish, kin in KINtucky and all . . . so we may be able to intersect at some point, especially with regard to smaller distilleries.

Was that the Munchausen museum? no. „Deutsches Museum“ München (Bavaria). My terrible joke deserved that response.

Coles 4038 ~18” above the cymbal. Highpass around 400Hz and boost 10kHz shelf to taste. I’ve yet to find anything that sounds/blends better. My tinnitus deeply loathes 10khz shelving. (no chessparov, it doesn't like Ikea shelving either)

I have been told they are perfect for throwing at bad monitor engineers. I've considered doing that on more than one occaision. You both are on FI-URRRR!!!! They hake a fantastic hammer as well. For harder jobs, use an SM7b

Most people agree it's a microphone.

I've recorded allot of electric guitar and also been an intern at studio Fredman. Most famous engineers in the metal genre use a single or double Sm57 ala Fredman. Keep it simple is my suggestion. You can use a ribbon like the 121 for some extra weight or an LDC for some extra sparkle but most classic albums are based around the Sm57. It's the one thing it does well!

There was a joke, that wasn’t an actual joke, back in the early recording-forums days, that the AKG C1000 was extremely-excellent at exactly two jobs; one as a paper-weight, the other, to mic a ride. It is the worlds greatest mic as long as you don’t plug it in. So you're saying to use it wirelessly? It's battery powered too, so that's doable! Thanks, I'll try that LOL

Two words. TC Finalizer. (Drops Mic) I have one of those! I don't even use it anymore . . . I should sell it. Is it a Consolation prize?

I have had an R121 for a few years now and it is a great mic. I also have an R-10 that I have mixed feelings about. Maybe I just haven't found the right application for it yet. I'd like to experiment with some other ribbon mics but don't have the budget for the big boys so I've been thinking about trying a M160. Any comments for how it compares to an R121? Context is important! What are you using said ribbon for? What else might you use said ribbon for? AEA R84 is the best all-rounder, followed by the Royer R121, then a 77dx, then the Stagers, then an M130 then an M160.

The best speaker with a little edge: R121, dead center on the dust cap, 1 foot (30 centimeters back) into a Grace 101 into an LA3a The best sounding warmest speaker, 1/2 way between the dustup and the edge, 30º angle 6" (15 centimeters) back, SM57 into a CAPI312 into a V3a.

The few times I’ve mic’d a ride, I’ve used the Oktava 012, likely with a hypercardioid cap. I have a bunch of the 012s, and if I’m micing the ride, it’s probably waaay down on the priority list, and I probably have an 012 leftover. They seem to work, and they’re pretty compact. I can see that working very very well.

Neumann TLM102. Best goddamned ride cymbal mic I have ever used. I have had the same one on ride for 12 or more years now. Always trying something different (and I have 133 mics to choose from) and always come back to it, through the same old Neve 33420 preamp that crunches nicely.
It is just a phenomenal sound.

In memory of Elizabeth Reed, phenomenal. As far as I'm concerned, Most of what was phenomenal in the Allman bros catalog were songs written or co-written by Dickie Betts. JMHO

One step closer! I still can't get the IRS or sims to sound as good as a real amp and cabinet mic'ed up properly, so I tend to stick with real amps and cabinets, 121 and 57 combo, API or Grace pres into LA3As almost exclusively....
But this shows real promise!
