Strangely, had SNL on and the opening skit had an Anita Baker reference…whom I haven’t thought about in years. Went and listened to Sweet Love (haven’t heard for a decade or two) and man - I forget how interesting the melodies were in the 80s…and what a unique voice - I guess I always thought it was weird…but now I think it makes her stand out. Anytime I hear certain songs prior to the 2000’s, the lack of tuning is always interesting to me. I mean - I get they couldn’t - but there are some songs where I woulda never let that out of the studio…There are some spots in those verses that I personally as a singer would have wanted to re-sing - but she’s a legend and who cares.
I’m totally digressing here but just thinking about the difference in hearing this vocal on this song and then the new Randy Travis AI song…that AI vocal is freaking dead on…but it’s too perfect. It’s the uncanny valley, honestly. I can’t describe it as anything but weirdly creepy. Or maybe it’s haunting because the guy hasn’t spoken in a decade.
Was gonna pop in Sweet Love right here…guess I should pop in the new Randy Travis too

AI. Someone thought auto-tune didn't go far enough?
