Mr Steiger If you had a new 1608 would you mod it with Litz Wire transformers?

Why don't you mod it with Litz Wire VP28's You could part all those pres out and still have enough left over to buy a car.

FYI, I just got a couple to test in my VP28s and then a couple for my eq's. Swamped with other stuff, but will report back in a week or so

If you are average handy and handle a soldering iron, with the help from Chunger's guide at GDIY you should be able to do it groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=48610.0The guide is good to see the stuff involved in getting the PCB free from the faceplate and L-bracket. You need to remove the knobs, the nuts holding the pots (switches really), the screw on the faceplate (for the small HPF board, and dont drop that little star washer!), and then the four points holding the PCB to the L-bracket. You have to do this to be able to unscew the old xformers, and then also desolder the xformer cables. After that it's just 'backwards' again, and again Chunger's guide is there for you. edit: when getting the PCB loose on this build a little extra care should be taken to not bend the legs of that flimsy little LED

Just built 2 vp312's with these. Excited to try them out.
I then proceeded to get a head of myself and soldered the new pcb mounted t-pad flush to the board. Screwed them up trying to desolder. Got to love a $60 preventable mistake!

Sorry guys, I have been swamped with things.
It would be interesting to see what a difference changing the 2 outputs would make. I am sure it would add up but not sure how much. I don't know exactly how the current outputs they use would compare. If you want to really change something, I would swap the opamps to red dots, the input iron to a EA2622 and then do the Litz outputs. It's not something I would normally offer, but in the case of experimentation, I will make the changes on a pair of channels if you want?

op amp swaps are a quick, easy and drastic way to modify API circuits without any soldering...like Jeff said
I personally love the GAR op amps GAR2520 and GAR1731, you can get those at classicapi too. I have not yet tried a red dot.
I would be interested in buying a pair of the API 2520 if you decided to sell any. Or I could trade you two GAR of your choice in the mail if you're curious about them. PM me if you're interested.

Seems too cool an opportunity to pass up. How do we go about it? Pull a couple channels and send them to you? Make purchases in the CAPI store?

I am super low on the 2623-1-Litz at the moment (with more on order). I will pull 4 of them from the store stock right now if you want them. jsteiger1965 at yahoo

Damnit...I missed the Litz wire VP28's...0 available. Not exactly Johnkenn. I have 17 of the Litz 2623-1's on the shelf. I have zero stock on VP28 kits but will be adding another 50 over the next few hours.

Jeff - anyone that you know have both Litz and red dots in their FC526's? Hmm, its hard to keep track. I have sold a good amount of FC526-Litz but most folks have been buying opamp kits with them not Red's. My guess tells me that noah shain will have 14 or 30 unmodded channels to compare to
