I've never owned a hairball build but I've used them Wiz. I thought it was every bit as good as the reissues. Solid build for sure.

I was shocked to find out he's had over 170 cuts as a writer. That seems like a staggering number to me. Yeah Jeff he signed with Paiselys house (SeaGayle) after only a couple of weeks in town. It's a fairy tale story really. One only someone of his talent is capable of I would think. It's true what they say about creame rising to the top.

From what I have heard, and I have heard the UM17R. Sounded really nice, and yes, they look great! If you mind me asking, What did you do for Blackspade to not like you very much? If I remember correctly Cowboy has this mic, not sure if he still does, and I know that MJB has a Blackspade also. It sounded really nice from what I heard. I sold mine and instantly regretted it. But these new ones with the BV08's look nicer. Probably are. Looking forward to hearing some feedback. They are voiced like a M49. Great vocal mic. MJB put the blue line in his and it's top shelf.

I use both. Different amounts for different songs of each. But here's a delima that I find myself in a lot (and I would assume many who try to record themselves on a regular basis). I've caught myself trying to fit the performance to the gear. Not trying to overload here, playing/singing a little louder there etc.
I've found that's probably the worst thing we can do. If it's a dynamic song, I've learned to back everything off and let the ponies run. Easier to mix later than to miss an emotional take.
Every time it hear a dynamic singer like Martina who's sings from the heart, I think to myself how difficult it is to record that. But the payoff is worth it in the end.
So for a performance like that, 2 or 3 compressors might need to be used in series and automation in spots. No right or wrong way. Each song is different so a feel for the materiel has to be learned. That comes with practice.

cowboycoalminer - I know you've recorded some vocals on ribbons...what's your take on how they deal with the top end? I think ribbons can be just the ticket for vocals sometimes. I usually end up rolling some top off anyway and the ribbons negate the need for that. Very smooth bottom to top. HPF up to around 200 on male usualy for me then eq to taste. Never used a ribbon that didn't eq well. Even cheap ribbons.

cowboycoalminer just curious why you would cover this jazz standard. it's been done to death. Why not tackle a tune like "Lush Life"? who played piano on your thing? Just playing around, not doing it for any particular reason. Just struck me.

Swurve I always use comp distortion. 2 birds with one stone kind of thing but I guess a pedal would work. Kinna the same sound without the note length a compressor adds.

I use them to advertise but won't complete a transaction on there. Always find a way to sell off site or I don't sell.

try swapping it out with "Piano in Blue" from cinesamples, if you have it. that 8dio sounds like the piano from the thad Jones Mel Lewis "Opening Night 1966" record, which was the grand piano in the Village Vanguard at the time. I do have Piano In Blue. I'll swap it out and post it back up. Curious myself now.

Distortion is the key to a punchy bass sound. Sounds awful soloed but killer in a busy mix. Run it through that Sta Level and absolutely punish it. Should be pretty close to done.

Here's that 8 Dio Steinway on a jazz number. Sounds really good for this I think. NoFilterChuck should put a horn on this with me! db.tt/ht34ntIM

Of course you could record to multitrack tape, then copy over to ProTools or whatever. As long as you could sync, you could do it as many times as you need. The CLASP lets you work essentially like you would with a DAW, but the tracks were first recorded to the tape recorder, then played and copied into the DAW without the user having to fuss with it. It just happens, and the tracks are lined up and the time gap compensated automatically. It lets you overdub exactly the way you do in a DAW, but with the tape sound included. Sort of a Jules Verne (Rube Goldberg?) version of a tape sim. : ) Yes exactly. Which is why I can't see how it can be the full benefit of tape as we do have to go to digital in the end. It would be much like a tape sim. I'm guessing it's better but by how much would be a matter of personal experience I guess. I personally love the sound of tape. It's without a doubt better sonically to me. But after using digital, it's a pain in the ass. Can we ever have it all? I doubt it.

Seems like a cool idea but the choice of converters would still leave a footprint so not really "tape" in and of itself. Any real world experience out there?

That's a very good point. One I hadn't really thought of. There used to be a mystique about an artist almost as if they were all above us. Of coarse those that know famous people know that's not true but now with Twitter, everybody knows that's not true. All the icons are gone and we are left with mere mortals.

Everybody but me, Eric. Couldn't care less about knowing anything about these new acts.
It use to not be that way for me. I looked forward to learning everything I could about artists I liked. Ones who moved me that is.
Seems like every great artist I liked had an interesting back story. These days, it's cookie cutter back story's. Heard one, heard em all.
No soul in popular music these days. All they want to do is drink and party. Well, who works a hard week to pay for the beer?? I want to hear about that guy.

Looks soooooo great littlesicily. Are you still selling one of those? Not for me just curious. I'm sure after having both spaces full it will be hard to let one go..... Jeff, I'm not "trying" to sell it. Would consider, but my feelings won't be hurt by keeping it. Sell one to Kennedy so we can keep it in the family. Then he can sell it to me
