Which ones do you guys feel come closest to a real Fender tank? I've got a few amps with no reverb so I'm in the market.

I have 4 telecasters, with different necks and pickup options etc. If I needed just 1 to take care of all my tele needs, I'd get the Classic Players Baja Tele. They feel, play, and sound great. I've got a classic players Baja for sale if anyone is interested. Like new condition. I take great care of all my gear.

I'm thrilled with the RTZ's. Easily the best sounding pre I've used. It's like a hi fi Neve. A sound all it's own. If you dime the output it's very clean. I run it like this a lot for vocals. Backing it off about half and cranking the input is great too for certain things. I would imagine that would be nice on a buss.
I'm still itching to try a Pueblo Audio pre. Supposingly pristine and polished. Maybe demo a pair of those too Swurve?

Guys, your kind words mean so much to me during this difficult time. We buried Daniel yesterday at 2. I'm still in shock I guess. He and I went to high school together, stayed in touch through college and got back together for our work life in these last years. He was a great family man and humanitarian who will be greatly missed by so many. I woke up in the middle of the night Wednesday and wrote a few words to be read at his funeral. I'll post them here... Who was Daniel Walker? For those of us who knew him, the answer to that question may be different for each or the same to all. But in a word, Daniel was truth. Truth is how I choose to remember him. He lived his life in truth, unafraid of the light. Fearless of those who might cast judgment. A man to be admired by the community which surrounded him, and a volunteer to all who knew him. It has been said, “let a man be judged by the content of his character”. If that is the measure we are to use, Daniel was a man among men. He was a man always willing to sacrifice his own comforts in exchange for the comforts of others. Some would call him a giver, or a great humanitarian. But in truth, he was so much more than that. Daniel Walker was the husband who loved us, the father who hugged us, the brother who came to our need. He was the classmate who encouraged us, the teammate who endured with us, the employee who helped us succeed. He was the co-worker who labored with us, the deep sea diver who inspired us, and the son who always made us proud. Billions of people around the world may never have known Daniel, they would never get to see his smile or hear his laugh, never be touched by the outreach of his humanity, never feel the comfort of knowing a true friend like him. In short, Daniel never changed the world because the world didn’t get the chance to know him. But for those of us who did know him, he truly changed our world and that for the better. And no greater memorial can be made of a man than this. I for one will be forever grateful that I knew Daniel and called him my friend. I am stirred in my spirit to be more like him and seek out truth. Rest in peace my dear brother, and thank you for being my friend. Below is Daniel. God bless you all for your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

That would be 8.36 feet from the front wall. That's about what most studio control rooms are from the glass if we think about it. But I still hold to the opinion that less than ideal conditions can be easily overcome by being farm iliac with ones setup. Your latest mixes sound great man. I would think a lot of that has to do with the capture and some killer mix decisions. Nicely done. Your only an inch from big league studio quality. The other inch would be in a list players I would think.

Well when you mix to a console it doesn't really matter that a converter adds or takes away. We manipulate the signal post conversion anyway so color might be a good thing. However, I would think mixing ITB, one would want sterile.
But you know I think getting to know whatever converter you use is more important than anything. Jumping from one to another makes little sense to me. Same with monitors, wives etc...

Yeah - the Symphony sounds great...I would be interested in hearing if Cowboy thinks the Symphony has color too. Also, he has a 1794 and a Symphony on hand there, so maybe we can hear his thoughts on the differences. cowboycoalminer. Also - in Charles' tests, the Svartbox had to be slaved to the Symphony clock because Symphony USB mode doesn't allow it to be externally clocked. I'm not sure it would have been a huge difference, but just want4ed to point that out. I most certainly do think the Symphony is colored. Always have. In fact, I'd bet that's why people love it so much. It sounds more "analog" to me than any converter I've ever used. Plugged it back up and put it back in use about a month ago. BTW. Very solid converter.

I record analog outs in stereo. Makes the Kemper effects so much nicer. Still pan in the mix to taste but remnants of the stereo sides work their magic.

I've commented on this concept before and it applies here. I don't think anyone buys a comp like this thinking it's going to be a silver bullet. But it is a wise investment. These vintage units will never depreciate. New gear depreciates before we get it out the door. It's like putting our money in the bank only we get the use of the wares.
Supply and demand. I put a vintage mic up on eBay and had 32 watchers, 4 offers and sold it with no haggling the same day at my terms (off eBay). Vintage gear is good business.

For the DIY inclined, check out the AML ezEQP 1 kit. I did a pair and they sound outstanding. Great on Bas, Vocals and on the mix buss they give your mixes a larger than life touch. Some people on the "other pro gear forum" compared it to the real deal and say it's pretty close. I don't have a WARM to compare it to though... www.audiomaintenance.com/acatalog/aml-17-022_extended_info.htmlDidn't they have these for sale pre built with a blue faceplate? I checked the website a few days ago but didn't see them. Thought I saw them once.

The thought just hit me. I can hear it now, Kennedy on lead vox, Randy's dobro, Ward with some distortion guitars, Chuck's horn. It'll be a mashup from hell.

I second that. Have some respect. Couldn't care less what gays want to do. Have at all you want but change that Avatar. Innocent people died at the hands of a bunch of idiots and you post an Avatar like that? Not cool. Change it or leave.

I've got one of these MK-U47 mics on the way. I am not the most tech-savy. CAT5 is helping me out. Mine will have the Neumann K49 capsule. Cat 5 will build you a mic that will knock your socks off and last you a lifetime. He's the good stuff.

Wow guys. Just bought a used TC-6 and I've never held a guitar that plays and sounds as good as this one. Do yourselves a favor and look into them if your serious about guitar. Just stellar.

There is 6 electric guitar parts on this tune. I used a real amp and the Kemper, 3 tracks a piece. See if you guys can tell which is which. I can't and I know which is which.

getting a good guitar sound has eluded me my entire life. i dont have a control room so miking an amp has yielded the worst results. plus i can only do it during the day which means never since i have a 9-5. going di is listenable but e-guitar is such a noisy instrument i feel like if its wrong the entire song is wrong. theres no way to hide it... it has been such a problem for me i quit guitar all together and picked up a synth. but of course the song im working on is in desperate need of a little pop guitar. im not sure its even possible but anyone getting good results with amp sims. so far ive tried amplitube, GTR, guitar rig, and BIAS and its just not working for me. i cant get it to connect with the rest of the music. I've tried all the plugin stuff too. It's junk. The Kemper is different though. If an amp is modeled right, it sounds like the amp which amounts to a nice sound in a mix.

Anyone here recording with a Hummingbird? Or perhaps a J45? How are they as studio workhorses? thing is in Australia the Gibson acoustics are way more expensive than in the U.S told my wife, if we ever do a trip to the U.S, we will return with a Gibson acoustic. the ones I have played here really wowed me. I have 2 vintage J-45's and a Hummingbird. That song I did for MJB Other Side Of Town, I used the Hummingbird on. Gibson are outstanding studio guitars. Most are easy to record in my experience. Nice and woody.

Yeah and it should be noted that one can take a good amp model (Little Walter 25 for example) and get many different tones out of it just like a real amp. It's pretty amazing really.

First of all, thanks for the kind, positive feedback for the vintage pack. I'm very happy with the way that pack turned out. I just wanted to chime in on the whole Kemper thing, because obviously I'm a fan of it. My point of view is that it's a great tool and it doesn't take away my love of real amps, but on the contrary it makes me appreciate amps that I otherwise would've have purchased. If I'm home and I just want to play guitar for that amp in the room sound, I'll usually just plug into a real amp. But in situations where I need a mic'd sound or if I just want to noodle and create tones, the Kemper is just so quick and easy to make cool sounds. For my purposes onstage, it is a huge problem solver in that it removes so many variables and makes my tone, ear mix, and foh send consistent night after night. And I'm able to try different amps out on different songs easily and go back to the original if I didn't like it better. The knob layout is pretty intuitive and if you want to dig deeper you can with more parameters, but it doesn't feel like getting lost in menu after menu most of the time, especially after you discover your favorite avenues for editing. As far as roadworthiness, knock on wood, but I haven't missed one note in a show. I now have a backup on the road just in case, but I've never needed it. The thought that it can completely replace a tube amp for what a tube amp does is a bit far-fetched because it's not the same thing. It does, however, replace it in situations where you want to mic an amp and cabinet and make that environment portable, tweak able, volume independent, and more versatile. You can get great mic'd amp sounds and I think lots of people may still prefer that, but the Kemper is a great alternative with very little downside as far as sacrificing tone. I used my Kemper on our new CD that we are in the process of recording. We tracked at Oceanway and the engineer had nothing but great things to say about it and the other guitarist thought it sounded great too. Mine isn't going anywhere, but I still love my tube amps for that visceral tone thing. Michael, what's your take on bass amps? Ever tried doing those? That's one thing I still do a lot is mic a bass amp but it would be nice to have few good bass amp models. Might try one myself and see how it goes.
