I'm looking for six 500 series preamps and a pair of eqs for drums/ Guitar /bass tracking . I was looking to do the diy capi route . I'm curious if people are still feeling the love . I wish I could wait for the JLM audio tube preamp kits But that looks to be a ways away Any thoughts would be great Thanks

Also, on that note At what point does the heater voltage begin to affect capsule performance?

Oh shit, Ha. Well that solves that problem. I've beenl chasing drum sounds I got with MK 47 microphones for months but for some reason it has disappeared. It's like the life was sucked out of the mic

My two Mics suffer from some inconsistency And I'm still trying to hunt down the reasons .i'm only getting 44 volts out of my API style preamp to the microphone .this should be enough for the MKs 47 correct ? Thanks

Ive built the D-67 that poctop of vintagemicrophonepcbkit.com offers . It is the Iaudio ( Max's ) version that I think is no longer offered as the general consensuses was it was too dark for most peoples taste . I believe it is the same transformer as the one in his current conversion kit ? I Have a new neumann K67 capsule and nos tele tube in the mic and yes its darker than a nice original Ive compared it to but Man dose it kill in front of a fender bassman , nice powerfull mids and punchy . Id like it to be a bit more open tho for vocals like the original , Im working up the courage to send it to shannon to mess with the capsule .

I got a KM 84 off of eBay recently. It was advertised as perfect , it wasn't . Luckily the seller paid for Tom Onofrio to bring it to spec so I bought another one from him through PayPal .

I have been running into a few issues with Tubes for my mk47 I have a few of the Rca gold pin 408a tubes and a bunch of the Phillips 6028 tubes . I've noticed the rca tubes I have are a bit noisier but thicker sounding than the Phillips . ( I could be imagining this ) but more strangely the voltage is much higher for the rca tubes with the adjustment pot . The rca tube almost max out with the adjustment pot turned down The Philips have room for adjustment . Anyone notice voltage differences with different Brands of 408/6028 tubes ?

I can pick up some st Ives original 1272s For a good price , I's it worth the effort for a preamp conversion Or any of you diy guys just go with carnhill and Be done with it ? Any opinions would be great Thanks

Thanks guys I know this may be a tired subject I was able to do some real world comparisons And found the mk47 hangs in there with the Real deal . Not the same but nice . But the mku47 is tempting . I'm gonna. Listen to that shootout now

I've built the mk47 the du67 and du47fet . The fet sits on the kick drum and the mk47 although not earth shattering , usually does a good job on anything . The du67 -I've been tweeking to get something more out out it . It's lacking something . So what DIY Mics were successes for you ?
