So I found another one , paid a bit too much but compared to mine it is literally brand new . The response is Identical . EQ positions ect . So I guess Im confident my original is close to spec . I may return it as I dont really need 2 . The midrange is fantastic like all EV mics and a favorite on fender amps , snare/toms cool . I rarely see these up for sale so I might hold on to it .

I know EmRR has one But Is there any one else who Uses one they like ? Im curious if the proximity effect is more dramatic than my experience . the frequency graphs would seem to imply a larger bass bump than what Im hearing ?
Its sounds really good right up on a guitar amp fuller than a 57 fro sure but im looking for another to compare and see if the capsule is in good shape or its just the nature of the mic . If any one has one an has a comment please chime in
Thanks

This thread inspired me to order a few tubes to try out in my mk67. I found a 1964 amperex bugle boy and a 1967 orange globe . the dealer told me there is little difference if any with different amperex logos . guess I'll find out . I also picked up a e80f 6084 amperex to try . currently I have a pair of silver tele ef86s from bowie and a mesh English mullard that sound similar . hope to do a quick shoot out if I hear something dramatic

I have a re16 with a slightly pushed in switch that still toggles but there is no roll off occurring . I'm assuming the switch is broken , but it is mounted in some sort of red epoxy compound that's rather stiff . I'm not seeing a way to get at it . I'm worried that trying to heat this section of the mic could damage another part of the mic . Any one here Have an Idea ? Thanks

It is pretty crazy how bad Max whiffed on the transformer for what is otherwise an outstanding kit. Yeah , I was confused by that as well . Maybe he was trying to compensate for the " strident " qualities of the newer neumann capsule that was pointed out by Klaus and others ? I have the Moby and the IO transformer in 2 DIY builds with neumann capsules and Had tried the AMI but it was very bright . As much as the IO transformer is dark , man can I get some beefy guitar tones with it . Prior to the MK67 kit he did a run of some cool u47 copies
the MK47 and the MK7 which uses a ef86 tube and a k47 cap , I have a pair of both .
The guy doesn't communicate for shit tho .

I hear what I hear . bigger rounder bass , great guitar crunch , punchy drums .
IĀ was dissapointed back then when I first compared adat to my 1/2" 8 track but I kept the adat . I recorded very simple too so yeah there could be a less is more thing going on .
Ā
ill try and post some stuff
Go for it, the issue for me is whenever I've heard or used ADAT it came off an expensive console with great tracking rooms and by modern standards it's quite an unfair comparison. We're not talking plugins vs. hardware here, it's a matter of whatever they wanted they bought and it usually was hardware. Oh I'm not using adat again, I don't even know where mine went. All I do is track and its mostly GBV Type stuff , so nice and clean isn't my thing . I was just curious if the " type" of conversion was making a difference? Or maybe it was just youth, but I don't think so. Its hilarious, whenever adat is brought up everybody immediately screams Alanis morsette!!!

Yeah, I'm not buying this one.. ADAT was just a cheap digital format (relative for the day), I've heard too many stunning analog style classical recordings or live band recordings to ever believe ADAT had anything to do with it (or that it's remotely better). Issue with modern direct to DAW w/ plugins is you can edit it to oblivion, sometimes less really is more and cliche's are cliche's for a reason. I hear what I hear . bigger rounder bass , great guitar crunch , punchy drums .

I know this has been covered before in other threads . Going through some old demos , My 20 year old adat recordings sound better than my pro tools-apogee daw set up . BY FAR . depressing . I'm not talking about performance , the basic sounds of individual tracks explode out of the speakers . I have much better mics and preamps ect now but jeez , stuff seemed to sound better quicker back then .
I get better clarity now but man there is no punch . all in the box mind you . Back then it was mackie and 421s and AT 4033s .
Ugh

Yeah Madooma isnt responding to questions . Im in the u.s . Yep currently searching for A older 421 that isnt too beat up and there seems to be quite a few out there . My main goal is to find a healthy d12 but that seems to be a much riskier adventure as Ive read almost all are aged out of spec .

I used to be A EV whore Back when they were cheap.I had pairs of RE10s 15s 16s 18s 38s and the wonderful 55s . Regretfully I sold most of them off . Just a pair of 15s one 16 and a 38 left.
Seems like every EV mic I've used can be "meh" one day and holy shit the next

istanbul agop all the way. traditional, mel lewis, signature, xist, 30th anniversary series are all great. i have a set of paiste giant beats that also record really well, but istanbul agop cymbals win out nearly 100% of the time in my experience Yep , one of the few cymbal lines that wowed me . I played some 15" traditional hats and mel lewis stuff and was really suprised .
