I think I'll survive this year's stupid money-making scheme without spending a cent. So far, so good. I'm proud of myself.

Axe FX III is $1999 right now...I might not be able to resist (not that I have $1999)...but a Kemper liquidation makes it more kosher. I highly reccomend the AxeFx III ! Long time guitar player here with lots of experience using both. The Kemper, while great is like a Waves plugin whereas the AxeFx III is very much the UAD of amp modelling. It's really something on clean and edge of breakup tones too! And here I sit, contemplating the purchase of a Mesa Dual Rectifier to complement my Marshalls...

Yes, I believe the Lisson Grove is a replica of the Altec/RS124 comp from Abbey Road. I'd love to get the HW though...

Yes, it pays to keep copies of the older OS, I have learned that too... Actually, I always make sure to have an updated backup of my HD before I upgrade the OS. If anything goes wrong, I simply return to my backup.

I'm updating the age-old list of verboten conversational topics: - Politics
- Religion
- OS preference

Wondering you use this German word "verboten" in everyday American English?
Yes, it is used in English. Of course, they use it wrongly.

Why the anger? You don't have to upgrade and follow each and every new release, you know that, don't you? Hit your mental ignore button and stay with the old system as long as it runs without a hiccup!

There is no right or wrong in music. To each their own. I prefer player's perspective. From an audience perspective, drums are mono anyway. Now that everything’s reduced to house shows or bars that hold 12 people, drums are definitely stereo. Even in bars that hold 12 people, drums sound mono when you sit 2 meters away. I'm sure even the bass player next to the drummer perceives drums as mono.
But, to each their own.
BTW, people here, who say 'fvck drummers', can go play with themselves.
And people who say 'my drummer' should be reminded that Mick Jagger once got punched in the face by Charlie Watts for saying that. And rightly so.

Audience of course. Anything else is wrong. There is no right or wrong in music. To each their own. I prefer player's perspective. From an audience perspective, drums are mono anyway.

I never had a problem with triggering ghost notes. I'm using Slate Trigger 2, btw. Just lower the detail range (lower control on the right of the GUI) until the more quiet hits, i.e. ghost nots, are captured as well. Done. Always works for me. Then, there's also the Sensitivity control to capture ghost notes. See also Trigger manual page 8 I use Trigger with Logic X and never had any problem with it whatsoever.

+1 on the Brainworx SSL channels. Got both, the E and G, in a sale and love them, although I lean more towards the E channel.

I use VUMT quite often, both for monitoring levels and for lowering the gain, if necessary.

Not off topic at all. This plugin is a recreation of Roger Schult's W295 EQ. Roger builds amazingly good gear, btw...

Thanks for this. Roger Schult is a friend of mine and his gear is top notch. I'm surprised to see one of his EQs in plugin form. Actually, this ties in neatly with the Siemens W295 thread here

Mind you, the VariMu is the first comp in my mix chain. The last comp in the chain is a TK Audio BC-1S, which is basically an SSL bus comp. I love some SSL flavor for mixing, that's why I also sum through an X-Desk and X-Panda. For tracking, I use a bunch of BAE Neve clones.

I haven't heard the TG1 either, although it's also on my GAS-list. I have, however, heard the original at Abbey Road and loved it. I own the AML and love it on vocals, drums, bass, but I don't use it on the mixbus, I have a Manley VariMu parked there. Funny enough, the mastering guy at Abbey Road ultimately also used a VariMu over the TG comp. I know the 2254 is a bus compressor on those lovely old Neve consoles, maybe I should try the 54F50 in that role. I love the creamy compression of the AML, you can smash it a lot and it still sounds great. I recommend it if you love the Neve vibe.

Check them out, if you can. I also like the fact that the cable on the Plus can be detached. I step on it all the time while recording and it's great that the cans are not constantly yanked off my ears.

BTW; I was interested in the wireless version and, while it sounded good, its latency made it pretty useless in recording situations. I wish Direct Sound would find a solution...

Yes, Direct Sound EX-29 and its newer version. I have 3 pairs and I've used them for years for drum and vocal tracking, they lack a bit in the top end, but I don't mind for tracking. As Bram said, the Studio+ sound terrible, I got them for free in a replacement deal a while ago, but I never use them. The EX-29, however are great. How do the EX-29s sound compare to the Studio+? I went with them over the 29s because the company rep said they sound better. 🧐 Yes, the rep I talked to in the UK also claimed the Studio+ was better, I guess they need to fulfill their sales quota. I found the Studio+ to be more dull, less top end and flat sounding (boring) compared to the EX-29, which doesn't sound too top heavy in the first place. BTW, I recommend the newer EX-29 Plus, which sound better then the EX-29. Then again, take my opinion with a grain of salt, my hearing is pretty much shot after 50 years of rock'n'roll abuse...

Have you tried Native Instrument's Monark? It runs with NI's Reaktor and a friend, who played a bunch of old school hardware synths in the 80s and 90s, claims that it's one of the bestsounding Minimoog emulations out there. It has hundreds of presets, maybe Emerson is somewhere in there.

Again lol. Was thinking about trying one of the Supro Keely amps with the master volume...and buying some pedals. I love the Kemper and it’s terribly convenient...but there IS a sameness to the profiles. Lol, people like you keep the economy going...
A guy played some tracks for me recently using the Axe FX. I'd have preferred an amp, the Axe sounded pretty good but somewhat sterile. I reamped the tracks through a clean Marshall and a 4x12 and blended the two signals, that improved it. In general, I always use real amps for recording, it's just more alive to me.
