thanks guys, i appreciate this, wow i will finally need a patchbay ! but wait, if my microphones are plugged in to the stam 1073's how will a patchbay help me ? plug your microphone into the patchbay - u67 has its own power supply, you could xlr > TRS cable it. input/output is connected to back of patchbay. but there may be better videos on how to use patchbays. Preparation before starting will be key, as you will need to calculate all of your patch cables. you may just want to get an XLR/TRS i and o snake for the back of your 1073eqs.

After another builder here was straight forward about having issues with counterfeit, I'm not shocked. I trust I have a great unit, it was mostly just confusing. I'll be honest I would have bought mine either way, you had me at Sowter.

Glad to know I'm not crazy, as the same part is missing on yours. I will say that I am confused by the change in parts

Can somebody post the innards of their unit? I have a few things I would like to compare with mine. Anyone else get the ST transistor instead of the promised Toshiba? I know it might not make a hair of difference, but now I am curious. I'm curious if design decisions changed or resistors are supposed to be missing too.
Thanks

I've used it with a solid state Orange Crush 10 watt that has a crappy little speaker. It was amazingly useful. Turned a little Orange crush 10 watt into a head/speaker cab, plugged that "head" directly into the RNDI, then recorded the output, and used the Eleven plugin's Speaker emulation (insert your own favorite one here), and came out with some damn fine guitar tracks. I haven't used it with a bass amp though, I'd certainly make sure we're not throwing tube amps in there without a power soak, from my research. Thanks for the info, I'll do some research. The idea was to use it between the had and cab. Not the worst thing to use it before the amp but if I could use it in between that'd be awesome. So I looked back to my info and the "power soak" option is for if you don't want to plug in a cab for apartment recording, the speaker energy needs to go somewhere. If you're plugging into your cabinet, after, then you're good to go.

Have you guys used the RNDI's speaker input? The direct out on my Ampeg SVT3 kinda sucks, or something is wrong with it, would be cool to send the post amp sound. This is why Volume Trim is the best. Trim's great, but not available on my PT version (non HD). The individual clip trim though has been an acceptable replacement for me

depending on what you're doing and how much you're changing it, I will separate the clip (right click drop down) into its own region and use the individual clip volume to accomplish this, because then it doesn't interfere with overall track level changes, or the now lack of being able to, once the envelope has been placed.

Rndi vs your new 1073eq DI, or rndi into microphone on 1073eq?

what if you dragged the whole section up to full loudness, by dragging a box around a group, then re-drawing your box, and pulling the group back down to the same velocity? I think kid of what Wiz is saying. Yes, but no math!

Just ordered a second one. And I haven’t even really tried the line in eq yet (I know I know). I like the pre so much and the little bit of additive eq I’ve used that I’d buy it just for the pre. Damn, that good eh? Sell-some-other-preamps-to-buy-a-second good?

I probably need to spend some more time learning to tweak them. I used them on my album and some very experienced friends asked me who the drummer was, so you're not wrong Ragan! Dude, that snare is great for that track, it has the nice "back of the room" smack, the only thing I'd ever do is experiment with the tuning of the sample, which is great to get that big deep snare, but the snare fits the vibe of the song great.

I use my aml 1073ez pre as a first choice more often than not, for the cost of the kit, totally worth it. Make sure you've got a reliable signal generator, i used a cable tester to calibrate. Fun fact, If you don't calibrate correctly and run it too hot, the laminate on the carnhill output transformer resonates and acts like a speaker! ....don't do that.

So I am in full anticipation mode for new gear, right, looking for as much review info as possible, and I dared to hit up the ol' stompin ground. I stumble upon the 1073eq thread, like we have here, and all I see is that nobody actually reads any of the posts in it, and each person almost eggs Josh on to make him respond, so that they can have an individual battle with the guy, like they need an "Argue with a gear maker" Boyscout badge. I find on this forum, almost everything is a conversation with each other, and not just people wanting pity. So weird. The icky feeling I have right now from the immaturity of the people, is why I left. That and typing in the word "slut" at work makes me really worried about the firewall filters and cataloging APIs getting me fired.

From the pictures I'm seeing, the unit itself seems to be way deeper than any other preamp I've got, making it probably the easiest to access too, hehe

Any must haves? Honestly, I don't use Waves. I have the phase correction plugin, but that's it. I do like their Waves Tune, and their Z noise remover. They have some good virtual synths/pianos that I enjoy playing. The H Delay has always been so darn useful too.

I'm a patient person, but when there is a post saying there is stock of something, and people have pending orders for those items, I understand the discouragement. I doubt I'm next in line, perhaps he funds travel expenses with local unit drops? I'll continue to wait, but man... /
