Happy to introduce the 1073EQ to the forum. We consider the Stam Audio 1073EQ the finest replica of the legendary Neve 1073 EQ available on the market today. I went to great lenghts to source the original components and gather enough to make a batch of them. The 1073EQ will include BC184C transistors, Axial Philip capacitors, a Toshiba 2N3055 output transistor, Allen Bradley carbon resistors and most importantly Carnhill Inductors and a new custom Marinair LO1166 output transformer made by Brian Sowter which we worked 4 months on. There is also a line input transformer for those who were missing this feature. With several other brands attempting to clone and sell this design I knew I had to go the extra mile. This is an exact reproduction of the original and you will hear the difference. No Chinese inductors, no Chinese capacitors, no SMD components. I will be shipping 3 versions of it: A) $799.00 USD- Carnhill output transformer, no Line input transformer B) $899.00 USD- Sowter output transformer, no Line input transformer 3) $999.00 USD- Sowter output transformer with Line input transformer All Input and Line input transformers are Carnhill, all units include Blore Edward switches. First 100 pre-orders will enjoy a $200 USD discount from the above pricing. Shipments begin in July The Stam Audio 1073 EQ will be completely hand made in Chile. This is the only way we can manufacture them with these type of essential components. More info here: stamaudio.com/1073eq.htmlThanks a lot guys[/font]

I put money down on the Sowter with line input transformer version a while back, passing on the Heritage and Warm. Looking forward to this, Joshua!

I couldn't help myself and just put down my deposit on the Sowter with line input. Let the waiting begin.

Will one power supply power two units? I'm thinking about putting money down on a pair.

I just ordered. I'll have the Heritage to compare. Just speaking of the preamps and not the eq, how does the Stam preamp you have (or had) compare to the preamp section of the new Heritage Elite? I was all set to get either the Elite or the Warm, but this new Stam has me thinking.

The Stam is rounder? You have the Sowter version, right?

Just to make sure : is this just the EQ, or is it preamp + Eq ? And is this new Sowter version of the Marinair gonna be added as an option to the other 1073 preamps you are offering ? Thanks.

Bare in mind John has the MK1 1073MP which has a different Sowter (9160) output transformer. This is a smoother and rounder sounding transformer compared to the more open and modern Carnhill (which sounds good as well)
The new 1073MP MK2 and 1073EQ uses the Sowter 1777 output transformer which is a custom made transformer that replicates the Marinair LO1166, it has more low end and is constructed in the same way, it took several months of research, dissecting and testing in the lab to get it right.
It also uses BC184C transistors and a Toshiba output transistor as well as Carbon resistors like the early 1970's, these translates into different transientes and more harmonic distortion.
Each unit has it's own internal power supply (toroidal, dual voltage shieldad transformer), no external power supply.

The Stam is rounder? You have the Sowter version, right? Yes - as Joshua just said, I think the Sowters tend to sound bigger on bottom and more "flat" on top. The Carnhills are brighter and "faster."

Ordered a pair. Have pairs of AnotherChineseMicPre 84s and 81s, figured I'd round out the collection with a pair of AnotherChileanMicPre 1073s.

The Stam is rounder? You have the Sowter version, right? To clarify, yes - the Stam sounds rounder.

Also, does this have a separate line in on the back?

And I wouldn't call the 1777 dark or anything, maybe thick is a better adjective.

And I wouldn't call the 1777 dark or anything, maybe thick is a better adjective. I actually am looking for something a little darker. The clips I've heard of the Heritage Elite are a little too bright and zingy for what I'm looking for in a Neve clone.

I wouldn't call the Heritage bright and zingy. The only way to tell is to get them in your own space.

Should be able to choose the quantity when you get to the order page.

Should be able to choose the quantity when you get to the order page. Ok. I see now. You have to pick the quantity on the PayPal page. I assumed you had to do it on the Stam page somewhere.

When you say you are trying to replicate the Marinair, but carbon resisters are like the early 1970's, were you trying get a sort of in between the early release 73 and somewhat later ones ? I understand that the actual maranair transformers were just in the early 73s and then Neve switched OEM too ?
Part of the reason why different 73's sound different ?

Screw it. I just ordered a pair with the Sowters and line input. The $200 ($400 total) preorder discount was too hard to ignore. $1,598 for two channels is a pretty good deal if these things are as good as everybody says they should be.
I've been reluctant to take the Stam plunge, because of the long wait times, but the Heritage Elite seemed too bright and I just kept having reservations about the shortcuts Warm seemed to take with their eq circuit. So I look forward to owning my first Stam products.

So how do you get some sort of confirmation that the $200 discount will be applied? The website doesn't calculate it automatically and apparently neither does the PayPal page.
