Traded a Hairball FET/Rack to a friend for an AKG C414B-ULS...and tomorrow driving to Little Rock to met someone and get a pair of PMC IB2S speakers with Sound Anchor stands!!! Probably way to big for my house set up but I've really been wanting a pair of full range speakers. Welcome to the world of Volt woofers and Scan Speak mids! Excited! I’ve been wanting some “forever” speakers. Hoping these are it!

Also, in terms of being inferior, I don’t think that’s the case. Pultec made a solid state EQ (EQP-1A3). They are just different

The 500 series are not tube, they use a discrete op amp (most likely a 2520 type), similar to the 500 series Pultec or the Analog Allstar (which are great and wish I’d never sold those!)

I had a Dano 12 forever until I tracked down a Rickenbacker 450/12 I could justify. The Dano doesn’t have the same jangle…and that particular Ric is interesting because when you play away from the bridge it almost goes back to sounding like a 6 string, which makes it pretty versatile for me.
But, for the money, the Dano’s do the job. I always thought the old Coronado 12 strings did a cool, plunky thing as well. The 12 string Stratocasters are nice and covered a lot of sounds. I wish they were more common/readily available. Never played a Gretsch 12.

Like everything, “it depends”. I personally rarely use multiple microphones on an amp, but I were to I’d buss them together. The only exception is if it’s an actual stereo amplifier with tremolo or vibrato or chorus that’s moves between speakers (which is rare) because then I’d actual pan the two microphones apart from one another.
If it’s a song where there’s going to be lots of guitar parts that come and go (say, a clean rhythm, tremolo guitar holding out chords, fills in the second verse, a guitar solo, double distorted chorus guitars, on and on) double tracks on all that shit adds up and get tedious.
And when I’m sent something to mix with multiple microphones 98% of the time I just listen for the one that sounds the best and delete the others.
I think bussing them together once you have a blend you like is the way to go. I mean, that’s the blend where you initially went “this sounds good” so might as well trust your instincts and commit to it.

Yes. The 651 and 661 are both "Expressor", but these 661 have a couple extra features: the 661's have "auto" mode with fast and slow attack/release, and there's a tube. There is an internal jumper if you want to bypass the tube circuit.

I have a pair of sale, but only because I’m trying to raise funds for a rather expensive set of monitors.
They a really wonderful and euphoric…if that makes sense! I’d been using them on the mix buss a lot so just a little bit of top and low lows.
Build quality is nice especially considering the price and Colin is a great guy who’s easy to contact with any questions

Hey Howie these have XLR and TRS input and outputs so it should be pretty easy to hook up to the Silver Bullet. I record a lot of banjo and these would be great for that along with vocals.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and have a 500 series rack, the CAPI FC526 and JLM LA500A are great options. I’m sure the DIYRE OLA5 is nice as well.
DBX 160X/160XT, Aphex Expressor, SPL Dynamaxx, Tonelux TX5C, Ashly SC50 or SC55…there are some interesting options out there sub $500 for sure

Used the Telefunken and AEA and wasn’t blown away. I own a BK5B. That probably answers your question.
I also am a fan of Beyer M160’s, have a pair.

I had some Jam Points left over and decides to go for it. Glad I looked and didn't buy the Tascam collection because it's not included in the Group Buy.
Also, I believe it might have superseded my previous promotion...so be sure to make all your selections before buying another product. I used my Jam Points to buy $150 in credit and pretty much cleaned out anything I can think of ever using in my lifetime. I hope that if the Group Buy keeps growing I'll get the promotion for the higher price bracket because I would have liked to pick up the Lurssen console to try.
But...by the time I reached the end of picking my second promotions I was really scrapping the bottom of the barrel for some niche/cheap choices. But I grabbed, for $95:
Tape Machine 24 Fender Collection Fender Collection 2 Fulltone Collection HiAmp Nu-Tron III Amplitude Orange Amplitude SVX Amplitude SVX 2 Amplitude Jimi Hendrix Amplitude Brian May Amplitude Joe Satriani Amplitude Slash Sampletank Cinematic Percussion Sampletank LA Confidential SampleTank Billy Cobham Drums SampleTank Hugh Padgham Drums Sampletank Spaceport 77 Electromagnetik Wurly Model 120 Cinekinetic Fractured Piano T-RackS Tape Echo T-RackS Precision Comp / Limiter (Neve 33609) T-RackS Master EQ 432

Question…can you do this promotion twice? Like, if I buy another IK product will I get the promotion again?
Thinking about buying a cheaper product and using the freebies for like Syntronik and SampleTank instruments

If this is a small B room with just a control room and a vocal booth, I really wouldn't worry too much about outboard. I'd get 4 channels of preamps...like a stereo API and a stereo Neve/BAE 1073 with EQ, a couple tracking compressors like a 1176 and CL1B or LA-2A would be perfect. A U87's and a pair of good small diaphragm condensers for recording acoustic instrument overdubs. Done.
HDX and Avid I/O (or whatever you are using in the A room) with whatever plugins are in the A room for all the reasons stated above. I don't even think you'd need to throw down that much money on SCM25's...consider something like Genelec 1031A's or more affordable, common powered speakers.
Make it an easy place for people to bring their laptops and hook it up to the speakers and use their own portable interface as well. If it's going to be a songwriting room, I wouldn't count on everyone knowing how to use Pro Tools. A lot of people will already have a "track" or something made in Logic/Ableton and just want to overdub a vocal or acoustic guitar or keys/synths to that.
If it's going to be a room to cater to co-writes, it's going to need a nice vibe.
Good luck! Not an easy task.

I have the latest version of the U99 and it’s a great microphone…works well on everything. Like all things Bock/Soundelux Im worried it’ll be discontinued/changed and I’m sort of in the fence about keeping it and grabbed a second to have a pair, or sell it and put the money towards an actual U67

I’m using the latest version of Pro Tools and I have Waves plugins that’s are V9 (in other words, old) and they all work fine without updating the WUP.

This is a very cool, flexible channel strip. Preamp, Pultec inspired EQ, Vari Mu AND Opto compressor, it really is a can do everything box.
New they are $2166. Mostly looking to trade for a pair of API 550A, pair of Avedis E27, Dangeous BAX, or Maag EQ4M.
Would also consider a Rickenbacker solid body electric (620, 425, 450) or hollow body 12 (330 or 360), Gretsch Duo Jet in sparkle finish, or a Gibson Les Paul Standard
Or would sell for $1600 plus shipping

I did the upgrade Amplitude 5 route for $112 using Jam Points and credits. Mainly thinking I'll take a spare computer and put it in the corner of the studio with a MIDI controller and have it hooked up quickly calling up virtual instruments. Here's what I got. Hoping more people buy in and I can get the other tape machines

I also found another BMD Komit cheap locally. These are really interesting…a VCA compressor with only the ratio for a control (like a SPL Dynamaxx) followed by a diode clipper/limiter that can turn into a distortion box if you want it to. Interesting on bass or drums where you really want to bring up the low level detail, or on something like a kick drum where you want L1 *nothing shall pass* limiter attack sound…but analog
