Anybody feel like weighing in on the AML Pultecs? I searched the threads and they come up but no strong opinions. Hot takes welcome.

I have a pair of sale, but only because I’m trying to raise funds for a rather expensive set of monitors.
They a really wonderful and euphoric…if that makes sense! I’d been using them on the mix buss a lot so just a little bit of top and low lows.
Build quality is nice especially considering the price and Colin is a great guy who’s easy to contact with any questions

I've got a pair of their MEQ (mid band) units. Sound great, I think they are comparable. Large. I don't use them much however so PM interested.

If only the Audioscape Pultecs were 2u tall instead of 3u...

The 500 series are not tube, they use a discrete op amp (most likely a 2520 type), similar to the 500 series Pultec or the Analog Allstar (which are great and wish I’d never sold those!)

I'd likely have already bought a pair of the AS Pultecs if they were 2u each. I just don't have the real estate to dedicate 6u to two channels of eq. Plenty of other companies, including Pulse themselves, sell a 2u pultec, so I'm not sure why AS insists on their unit being 3u. Oh well...

I’m thankful AS keeps their products visually true to the originals, it is indeed a lot of real estate but looks and feels great. The AML are 3U as well right?

Also, in terms of being inferior, I don’t think that’s the case. Pultec made a solid state EQ (EQP-1A3). They are just different

AML makes both 500-series and 19" if I'm not mistaken? I was interested in the 500-series, even though they're not tube. The one tube Pultec-based 500-series stereo EQ I can think of is the Rubber Bands by IGS. Any thoughts/opinions on those?

The AML pultec kit is sort of "Hairball 1176" money, which is pretty appealing to me. I would buy one if I could. In reality, I'd rather have a guitar, or something like that. But the price is right and I love those Carnhill transformers.

I see, so there aren't any 500-series tube Pultec clones then. Curious as to why that would be...space is the most obvious to me, but are there other reasons? Has anyone tried a miniature tube like HRK's US or Soviet Pentode Colour Module, or LTL's Pentode Colour Module?

I haven't heard of any. I'm assuming space and heat are the primary factors. You could always run into a piece of tube gear afterwards in the chain if you wanted to get some tube makeup gain instead of the solid state.

But Sold state Pultecs can be just as addictive and Swapping 2520’s can be fun addictive and give you your own tone.
