Been an uphill battle. I've suffered enough from battered DAW syndrome and starting my divorce. If anyone here has walked away from PT, which DAW captured you ? I'm on PC btw ...... What was it about PT that made you want to change?

Wiz...
You’re song writing, singing, and playing are fantastic. Send a tune to Aron Sterling and ask what he’d charge to play on your track. You’ll get amazing sounds, soulful playing, and I’m pretty sure it’s not going to cost an arm or a leg.
I promise it’ll be worth it.
If nothing else send an email and see what it’ll cost you. Your songs will get the lift they deserve.

It would be fun to get both of you out to the studio when they open up again and mess with your mics and some more gear.
Sounds great Martin!

Great playing!
Wish it was a mic instead of the quack quack piezo

Hm, interesting. Not sure how essential this would be to 1073 UAD owners. I guess I'll have to test it. The eq is WAY more usable.

Sure
Take your guitar output, go into a DI. Out of the Di into a mic pre. Now you’re at line level.
You can go into any studio compressor or anything else you deem creative. When you’re done patching into studio gear, plug into a reamp box and then into your amp.
I’ve done this with tube compressors before and got the idea from some early studio pictures of Ry Cooder with racks of La-2a’s and Compex compressors on stage next to him. Lots of fun, just can take a bit of time to get rid of some ground hums depending on how you have things plugged up.

Idk man... I just went out into the woods behind the house, picked some wild ramps, made a nice pesto out of it. I can get into NYC in about 40 mins to play a gig, I’m at the beach in under an hour to surf, I’ve got endless hiking and dirt bike trails. Yeah NJ sucks stay away! 😁 Can do the same things here in California. And not have to pay exorbitant taxes on private sales of used merchandise.
What's a "wild ramp"?
Do a quick search online. Best described as a wild leek. Tastes like a cross between an onion and garlic - absolutely amazing flavor profile, they only come out in the spring time and you’ve got to be careful to only take about 5% of what you see to keep them coming back year to year. I’m not sure if they are out west or not, but you can find them all over the east if you know where to look. Sort of like morel mushrooms etc

In NJ when you bring the title to register your used car you have to state the purchase price and that’s when you pay the tax. No way around that one here! Unless you don’t report what you paid for the car... Yet another reason to not live (or register used cars) in New Jersey. Idk man... Remember you were always supposed to be paying sales taxes on out of state purchases on your state income tax form. All that changed is that the Supreme Court ruling said large sellers needed to collect these taxes. Not that anybody theoretically paid the sales tax on out of state purchases. Now before anybody says they shouldn’t have to pay sales tax on purchases of used items, ever registered a used car? They require you pay sales tax based on the purchase price! A sales tax is a. Tax on goods and services regardless the condition of those goods. I've never paid sales tax on a used car from a private seller. Ever. Never been asked. I think it must be a state thing. In NJ when you bring the title to register your used car you have to state the purchase price and that’s when you pay the tax. No way around that one here! Unless you don’t report what you paid for the car...

I got mine almost 2 weeks ago. Great condition, unfortunately I’ve only been able to just plug them in to test them, haven’t had a chance to record anything yet. No clips or bags either - I might just order some. I really like those beyer clips and am not a fan of those spring loaded butterfly ones that some people use. I can't seem to find a mic clip online that I know will work. It needs a 25mm (1"-ish) inner circumference, according to Beyer. Almost everything I'm seeing is to fit a tapered body a la 58/57, and I hate using tapered clips on straight cylinder mics. If you spot one somewhere, let me know. EDIT: this is making me nuts looking for one. I know I bought a cheap aftermarket one years ago for an Earthworks, which is the same size, just can't seem to find one now... Okay so - Just tried what I have available.
The mount for the M88 works great. Its called the MKV-8 BUT I cant find one for purchase anywhere. All out of stock.
The shock mount for a 414 works perfectly if you have one laying around. Its called the H-85
The mount that comes with a 451 will also work okay in a pinch. Its the SA-40

As with everything WRONG with the world, I blame the popularity of the SM7Bullshit on Hipsters and Millenials. Hey now hold on. I wear flannel, make my own sour dough bread, and have a mustache. Shouldn’t I get an Sm7 issued to me as part of the hipster package??? It hasn’t shown up at my place yet. Is there a rebate card I have to use or something to get it sent to me?

I have 4 of the Electra 500 EQ’s. Incredible IMO. They are incredible sound shapers. Although not real colored, they do have a sound - Electras are a good name for them. They are incredibly smooth and elegant to my ear. They sound equally good on most any individual tracks or on mixbuss or even mastering. If I want mega vibe and attitude from an eq, I’ll often reach for something else. But the Electras would be amongst my most flexible eq’s. They are very flattering and are probably my most used EQ’s. Awesome, I just hate how the HPF isn't numbered other than 25 to 400. Is it safe to say to set HPF at 100 hz, the dial would be between 2 and 3 o'clock? If there is a situation where you really need to know where the hi pass is at other than listening, you can simply run white noise out of a channel, Through the Electra, then back into an aux channel with something like a fabfilter eq inserted. Twist the dial and watch where it’s cutting the white noise.

I remember as an up and coming engineer reading the self noise level of a Rode Nt1a and thinking... “wow that’s impressive, I’m gonna get one of those”
Worst mic I’ve ever plugged in. Man I’ve never been so disappointed.

Thanks Spindrift. Well there's the rub. My next step, is to contact the relevant parties ala Weird Al, and attempt to get permission for a full release. Our intent was/is for any proceeds, to go to MusiCares, the Grammy Charity. I'm hoping, by contacting Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan's management initially... That might create some positive momentum, for later contacting the Estates of Harrison/Petty/Orbison. Hard for me to believe all three are gone. Chris P.S. This song (at the time) was at the very top of my Baritone range. George did a fantastic job on his vocal, making it sound "easy" But you know "It Don't Come Easy"! Better to ask forgiveness than permission 🙂

It's all about his having great taste and references. It goes to show just how much he contributed to the band's sound. I wonder if he used drum samples after he played the drum parts. Perhaps he had already recorded the drums and just played along when filming? It seems the drum hits are a bit harder than he's hitting. It's a great sound. I think somebody else overdubbed the drums at some point. The hihat hits and open hat lifts don’t match the video. Heck maybe it’s Ferrone having some fun with his band mate haha

I’ve worked on records when I was an assistant and they just could not play at all. Once they were sent home I’d sit there and replay all the bass and guitar parts to make it manageable and sound like something. I’d get compensated of course, but no credit. (Honestly I wouldn’t want it anyway haha). This would be major label artists btw. No tone, no vibe, just couldn’t play. Pretty amazing that these bands could get a deal but it is what it is.
The flip side would be a record I tracked with Warren Haynes and Railroad Earth. He would play them a song on acoustic in the control room while they wrote charts, not having heard the songs before. He would talk about where he was in life when he wrote the song, elaborate on the story, get everybody in the correct frame of mind etc. they would do 3 takes and if he didn’t feel they got it in those 3 takes the song was dropped from the record. Usually it was the first or second take that was the keeper. Maybe there were 2 songs that got dropped. It was an amazing way to work.
Many times now I’m in a room by myself and the artist. I have to play producer, engineer, drummer, guitarist, bass player, etc. Sometimes it works out great and we bounce ideas off each other seamlessly and great tunes pop out. Other times it’s a struggle.
And the struggle is real haha. Sometimes you’re just not inspired or out of ideas. I’ll usually either call the session for the day or take a break for a few hours and just listen to some of our favorite artists or new music for some inspiration.
Making it all work out is part of the job. Polishing turds isn’t fun either but sometimes it’s what you have to do to pay the bills.

Slightly off topic - but every time I think my electric 12 string is going to work on a song it takes about 2 mins of playing and back in the case it goes. Not really sure why I still have it.
Kind of belongs in the same category as my Wah Pedal.

It's no conspiracy that once the government puts laws and rules into play, they rarely remove them once the impetus for them has gone. Let this go on too long and the masks will become muzzles. You mean like temporary wartime measures like income tax? Yeah, that worked out well. I can't help but find myself in agreement with you, yet again. Yup! Like that BS little beauty called the Patriot Act!

That’s the best sounding one to me. The ones that are mounted vertically are slightly different I think. I assisted for Jason Corsaro for years and we were buddies after I started doing my own projects. That type of PYE comp was the first piece of gear he ever purchased, he kept it up until he passed about 2 years ago. I REALLY wanted to buy his but I just couldn’t justify scrounging that much money up for a compressor. He actually had tons of gear I’d would have loved to buy. Not sure where it all wound up... I think his sister is still trying to sell a lot of it.

Preamps are cool... but can you imagine how many PYE compressors they could sell?!?! (Nudge nudge) ((Seriously please make some PYE comps anybody I’m begging)) Of all the things that need a clone market..its a PYE. Wonder why it's never happened. If a 670 can happen, surely a damn PYE could. I have a feeling that just not enough people have used them or heard stories about them to make it a legendary piece. The plugins don’t even come close imo - it’s a shame to have the PYE name on them. I think there was a company making some sort of recreation called POM but I’ve never seen one in the wild

Ny and Nj just aren’t fairing as well unfortunately Bill.
My mother works at a funeral home where they generally get 2 or 3 deaths a week. They have 23 bodies in their possession currently and that’s been a steadily growing number per week for the past month. Parents live in a suburb of NYC in NJ about 6 miles out.
Wife’s family had a death that was one of the people at a nursing home here that is under a major investigation. They didn’t find out the woman had passed away until 4 days later when they tried to call her on Easter Sunday.
Friends that are doctors and nurses are at wits end and just plain damn tired - never mind being told they are blowing things out of proportion.
I’m glad it’s not as intense in certain areas of the country. This really sucks and I hope it gets under control soon.
Stay safe everybody.
