Ah, why Pro tools: doesn’t that answer the question: audio software for pros?

Anything on current or previous OS will be silicon certified, I think , so will run on m1 and up.

Yeah it’s all gravy at this point, right? Hell I’m on an M1 I can barely make break a sweat… It’s ashamed Apple is forcing people to upgrade. My Intel 4950 (six core) latest me 9 years. My new 13900K (24 core) will last me at least another 9 years. One new system per decade is all I need. It’s very expensive to stay on the cutting edge. Maybe, I bought a used m1 mini with extended renewable warranty, Magic Trackpad and keyboard and a 34 inch curved monitor for $1100 cdn, like $800 usd. Agreed, buying new isn’t cheap, but there are Apple refurbished, like Ragan’s new air and the used market, so there are options. Like said above too, how much more power for audio, do you need than say an m2 studio?

Developers have had years to get M silicon compatible, if they are not there now, that’s hardly on Apple, what the hell have the developers been doing?
I think the Rosetta inefficiency is overstated as well. I have read that the plug is reskinned once, then that is saved, so doing the handshake between intel and Mac coding still consumes some cpu, I didn’t really notice much of a difference.

Yes and no, you m2 has great specs and use of power cores, so would an m4 when it shows up really make much of a difference?

Not certain what you mean by poly?
If you want multiple sources combined into one track mono or stereo just assign to the same track?

Any problems with the macs? I am still running my 2012 mbp with up to date software thanks to open legacy’s patch, and bought a used m1 mini, that rocks. Buying protools license for 7 years would have cost way more!

New Apple Logic Pro Announced with AI-Driven Features for Mac And iPad
Apple has introduced the latest versions of its music production software, Logic Pro for iPad 2 and Logic Pro for Mac 11, both set to, in their words; “transform professional music creation.” The updates, which will be available from May 13, incorporate AI to assist artists with songwriting, producing, and mixing tasks. We have the details.
The new versions boast new features such as Session Players, Stem Splitter, and ChromaGlow, all designed to enhance creative control and streamline the music production process. These tools expand on Logic Pro's capabilities, making it an even more powerful ally for musicians and producers.
Session Players Session Players significantly enhance the music-making experience by providing a virtual backing band that adapts to the user's creative input. This feature extends the existing Drummer tool to include a new Bass Player and Keyboard Player, offering users a richer and more dynamic production environment. Users can manipulate their virtual band members' performance using controls for complexity, intensity, and style, making Session Players a versatile addition to any project.
Apple say;
“Bass Player was trained in collaboration with today’s best bass players using advanced AI and sampling technologies. Users can choose from eight different Bass Players and guide their performance with controls for complexity and intensity, while leveraging advanced parameters for slides, mutes, dead notes, and pickup hits. Bass Player can jam along with chord progressions, or users can choose from 100 Bass Player loops to draw new inspiration. With Chord Track, users can define and edit the chord progressions to a song, and the virtual Bass Player will follow along perfectly. Plus, with Studio Bass plug-in, users gain access to six new, meticulously recorded instruments, from acoustic to electric — all inspired by the sounds of today’s most popular bass tones and genres.
Built in collaboration with today’s best musicians, Bass Player responds directly to feedback with controls for complexity and intensity.
With Keyboard Player, users can choose from four different styles, designed in cooperation with top studio musicians and made to accompany a wide variety of music genres. Keyboard Player can play everything from simple block chords to chord voicing with extended harmony — with nearly endless variations. Like Bass Player, Chord Track adds and edits the chord progression of the song, so Keyboard Player follows along. Using Studio Piano plug-in, users can select additional sound-shaping options, with the ability to adjust three mic positions, pedal noise, key noise, release samples, and sympathetic resonance.”
Stem Splitter Stem Splitter enables users to extract distinct parts from a mixed recording, such as drums, bass, vocals, and other instruments. With the aid of AI and the powerful M-series Apple silicon, Stem Splitter operates swiftly, allowing for quick adjustments and enhancements to any track.
ChromaGlow ChromaGlow uses AI to model the sound characteristics of revered studio hardware, offering users five distinct saturation styles. This feature helps in achieving the desired tone, adding warmth, presence, or punch to tracks. ChromaGlow's versatile settings cater to a variety of sound preferences, from clean modern tones to rich vintage vibes.
Seamless Integration and Accessibility Logic Pro for iPad 2 harnesses the touch capabilities of the iPad, transforming the device into a versatile musical instrument and production studio. The compatibility between iPad and Mac versions ensures a seamless workflow, allowing users to initiate projects on the go and refine them in the studio without hassle.
Pricing and Availability Logic Pro for Mac 11 is a free update for existing users and costs £199.99 for new users. It requires macOS Ventura 13.5 or later. The iPad version is available for £4.99 per month or £49 per year, with a free one-month trial for new users.

Don’t, there is likely nothing in the update that you need for your project: why risk it?

“ If you want access to the full library, DSP will continue to be the only way to go. That said, I do think a new Apollo has to be around the corner. We'll see if UA finally upgrades the chips to ARM or something. If they release a new Apollo without an upgraded FPGA and DSP chips, I'm gonna have to really think about my continued investment in UA. I mean, I already am, but that might be another nail in the coffin.”
I agree with all your points and never thought UA would port all plugs ins, for the reasons you stated.
The next gen Apollo will be a real harbinger of whether UA is at all serious about addressing the chip performance/ price inequalities inherent in its platform.
The current ua environment works for those who value its workflow, but there are definitely other games in town, we’ll see whether UA steps up its processing/price game.

That’s interesting, so in a way it is backing away from its subscription plan so it will not include all plug ins, forcing people to keep on buying old design sharc chip devices, if they want more ua plug ins.
wonder when there will be a new Apollo or new satellites, cards with chips with higher processing capacity?
“The SHARC processor portfolio currently consists of four generations of products providing code-compatible solutions ranging from entry-level products priced at less than $10 to the highest performance products offering fixed- and floating-point computational power to 450 MHz/2700 MFLOPs.”

Pick a track part, that you think you would like dirtier/edgier, through on fatso and play with its distortions.
For $39, I’d say it’s a good tool to have, not for everything, but once you get a feel for it, bet you will reach for it regularly.

As small clarification, it’s www.myus.com, that lets you have a US address and ship internationally. myusaddress.ca/ ships from US to Canada. We are still trying to establish if it ships elsewhere, internationally.
