Alright, well I managed to pull the trigger on a V-Comp tonight. Looking forward to giving it a go. Oh man - sounds contagious! I am trying to ignore them. LOL

For those of you with a V-Comp, how many of you are using it in tandem with a second compressor?

For those of you with a V-Comp, how many of you are using it in tandem with a second compressor? I've used mine a few times in tandem with my Buzz Audio DBC. It was on a particularly dynamic vocal, going from almost talking to strong singing. The DBC really pulled the dynamics back and nailed down the vocals and the V-Comp gave it the mojo and gentle level riding. Worked great. It was similar to using a 1176 before a La2a.

Yeah, I was similarly thinking about maybe using one of my 1176s in line first. Though I'm unsure of just how quick the V-Comp is on its own.

Charlie needs to stop with the it sounds even more awesome when run in series with a ________. Especially when I already own an Audioscape _____ and an Audioscape________. V Comp isn’t really on my list at the moment but now. But it isn't complete until you follow all that with MEQ - to finetune the most important frequency range: The mid range! I’ll post some stuff next week after I have the opto in here too. I can show how each handles the same vocal. I am looking forward to hearing the comparison. Thank you! You don't hear it until you really push it and like Vinnie said, you can have 10db of GR and not even notice it's on. It can just work away quietly in the background. WHY Because it's #ASAF Audio Scaps As F (F is for Florida)!

I'm still learning the compression envelope and how to drive this thing, but the v-comp certainly feels faster than a La2a if thats any help. Its a really smooth sounding, musical compression. It wont do what a 1176 will do to transients, but on certain passages it'll deliver some really healthy GR (like 15db) without you noticing. So far I haven't been able to make it pump (not that I've tried). What It adds though is a nice sheen and harmonic bigness that makes a vocal sound classy and expensive. I've also just started using it to track acoustic guitars. Just some mild GR, coupled with the box tone make it an awesome tool for acoustics. Haven't yet tried it on bass but that will be interesting.

For those of you with a V-Comp, how many of you are using it in tandem with a second compressor? Y'all already know I do - the V-COMP is overall a bit faster than the OPTO as far as attack, but the release can be slowed down to a snail's pace. Someone else put it perfectly - stacking the V and something else is very akin to the 1176 > OPTO trick so many people like. For some REAL aggression and hair - 1176 > V-COMP is where it's really it. That's just a FILTHY sound. But for elegance - it's hard to beat V-COMP > OPTO ;-)

We'll I still have one remaining slot in my rack that may or may not eventually get a D-Comp. So there's that. But after that, I think I'll officially be comped out. At that point, it will be hard to justify owning any additional compressors. I've pretty much already got all of my bases covered.

So, I got the Opto racked last night and started playing around with some samples of Emily and I this morning through both the Opto and the V Comp. They are definitely different sounding. The Opto is smoother and a little sweeter sounding. The V Comp is rich with character and added presence. You really can't go wrong with either, but they do offer something a little different. More to come.

I know the triple setting on these kind of comps usually doesn't get used as much but If you ever need to really clamp down on a vocal try this setting on your V-Comp or Sta Level and feel free to hit 30db of gain reduction 😁

Whoa. That's like 'pin the meters and hold on for dear life' territory. That's rad
