Yeah - I can’t imagine myself not buying this one. I’m going to wait till things (hopefully) chill out and these are easy to buy.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the V-Comp vs Retro once you get one.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the V-Comp vs Retro once you get one. I'll second this as I recall the days of yore and JKs Miktek clips and Sta-Level on his vocals.

How much does this cost, and which compressor is it emulating.? It looks something like the Retro Sta-Level.

Man, that's really cool. I will eventually need one compressor. I like to use a compressor when printing vocals, and not much else after other than reverb, maybe a de-esser. I like the LA2A, but find it gives a bit too much of a fake push to the low end. I prefer clean and transparent. I think the Sta-Level is probably a mojo machine, but since I don't love the 1176 on vocals, and liked, but didn't love the Warm LA2A or the UAD plug-in LA2A's I have, I thought maybe the Sta-Level type might be the ticket.
My favorite I've heard online is the Tube Tech CL1B, which I know is kind of an advanced LA2A, but it's way out of my price range. The Audio-Scape seems like a winner if it sounds anywhere near as good as the Retro.

You should also probably check out the W-Comp by Weight Tank. And the holy grail of of vocal chains is usually 2 compressors involved. One for the fast stuff, one for the slow stuff. An 1176 into an LA2a is a classic chain. Either way, won't know until you try it!

Very true Blackdawg, thanks, My second choice from what I've heard online is the Retro 176. Man, a 176 and a V Comp would probably be the deal.

It’s not released yet it’s another of the only 5 units to try to buy, tonight at 8.
So far, we know he may have a digital counter playing somewhere on his site or fb and that while you can preload your account information there is something wrong with his site, I preloaded and during last sale, there was no info in my account, drag.

Just like the last time though, he says he'll take orders at the introductory price for a week after the 5 are sold.

The website is wonky, currently showing everything as Sold Out on the product page. Maybe that's intentional because technically everything is backordered?
Is there a way to directly communicate?

The next batch won't have the original tube but will have eh socket. He is going to a two tube design. You can email on his site, very good at responding.

NOS 6386’s whether GE or RCA are going from $80-250...so including them would be foolhardy. Although, these five will have the 6386 included. After this, the production version will have an open socket for you to put in the 6386, but will come stock with a pair of 6BA6’s that do the same thing (gain reduction.) exactly how Retro does it. Does the 6386 make a difference? Hell, I’ve had about 6 retro versions with both the NOS 6386 and the 6BA6 (retro also used the 6BJ6 I think) and I don’t know if I could truthfully say there was much of a difference. I’m sure there’s someone with more experience that could tell a difference.

Not a fair question I know since you weren't there to know the source or the settings of the V-comp AS audio clips,....but what's your impression of the AS V-Comp Audio clips compared to your memory of your past Retro Sta's ?

Is there a way to directly communicate? Yes, the owner is Chris Yetter and his email address is audioscapeaudio@gmail.com He's pretty responsive. Twice I've wanted items that were not in stock. The first time was for an Opto compressor. I emailed Chris and he said he was waiting on a part and would have it ready for me in a couple or three weeks. A short time later I got an invoice, paid it, and the compressor was at my door in a few days. The second time was this month. I wanted the Buss Compressor, it was out of stock, I emailed Chris and I guess my timing was good because he emailed me back saying he just put two up for sale on the website.

Unlike some companies that we have to deal with, the site only accepts orders when items are actually in stock and ready to ship. I wouldn't call that "wonky" As mentioned, they are very responsive to emails.
