But it doesn’t matter many AS pieces you already own, until you do the V, your mixes will never be Victorious !! At least, that’s what my pals, Dwight and Winston maintain ! 😂😂 CAN CONFIRM!! Hahahaha

Charlie needs to stop with the it sounds even more awesome when run in series with a ________. Especially when I already own an Audioscape _____ and an Audioscape________. V Comp isn’t really on my list at the moment but now. If it was anyone else saying this... Just be sure to take pics when you unbox it.

Ok. I lied. I’m sorry, but compressor plugins just don’t act the same as real compressors. This is sweet. More to come.

If Vincent does a video (or an entire Series) regarding his new Compressor(s) he could title it... "Audioscape From New York (Attack & Release)" But you gotta wear Thee Eye Patch! Chris P.S. Congrats on all kiddies too! Great prep for dealing with Bandmates.

The Sta Level/V Comp sound is something I have not been able to recreate in a plug in....not even close actually. Congrats on your new gear! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. @vincent R. - man, ABSOLUTELY!!! I'm actually OK with many EQ plugins, some get quite close... the ones that fail are the tube based ones but even they are fairly good. HOWEVER - compression is a WHOLE different ball-game. I've never been satisfied with a plug-in compressor like I am with ANY of my analog hardware compressors here... it's just night and day. And not ONLY sonically, but the ease of dialing them in, sitting them in the context of a track, the tangible nature of turning two or more controls simultaneously to hear their interaction, and SO MUCH more! This is ESPECIALLY true, again, with tube based compressors. Thought even the BEST FET or VCA plugs are still missing that unquantifiable "thing". And really, I think it comes down to the inherent non-linearity and unpredictable behavior of electrons - at the molecular level - crazy? Maybe. But something weird is happening there... I'll just say one thing, much like tube guitar amps, my V-COMP or OPTO COMP doesn't sound EXACTLY the same EVERY DAY... we're talking subtleties here but... an interesting personal observation. YMMV, as always 😘😎👌

What amazes me, and I noticed it immediately when I tried the V Comp and Opto at jtc111’s place, is that you can really push a real compressor without it sounding clamped down like the emulations all do. So you can hit the real compressor harder and get a smoother sound. This unit sounds so old school and is even working on Emily’s voice. Having some real fun with this baby and I’m just goofing around. http://instagr.am/p/CK-IxOIhxFS

To the point I was wondering whether I should bail the HW and just go ITB for comps. But ultimately, there's a weight and command of the attack with the HW that you just don't get with SW. The 176 is really great on vocals. I really think you should consider the Apollo X...it's a really big improvement.

Something I noticed with plugin compressors...when I’m too heavy handed with them, I listen back to the mix and hear all sorts of wonky shit. Weird resonances, strange distortion, a flatness etc. And I think “wtf did I do?” But when I over do it with HW comps it’s sooo much more forgiving, and I’m just left thinking “huh, I should back off on that comp a little”.

I can’t really use the software UAD plugins going in. For some reason, maybe cause I’m recording a little further back, or maybe it’s just the style I’m singing in, but the little latency there is shows up in my ears as being out of phase and I cannot hear myself. It basically makes the whole concept of how the Apollo works when tracking useless to me. It’s not just me either. This happens when tracking my wife and other bigger voices. People start having issues hearing themselves. For that matter I can’t really use the built in preamps either without clipping them. Not the converter, cause the levels going in are fine, but the digital preamps themselves. Smh. Not designed for opera singers. Lol. I had to completely re-record the “La Donna e Mobile” section of my FleA vs FleA video because they were completely distorted.
