Hey guys, I swear we are close. We are trying to get the new website in place and rework our back end before launching a big Colour pre-order campaign. Since I have zero marketing savvy, I of course just want to tell the world about our three modules right this second. But my brother says we have to wait until we are ready to support people taking action. I'm probably just as impatient as you guys. I am happy to report that I made some sound clips last weekend. I have some more to do. Yeah there does seem to be a tube in one of those modules...what's up with that?? I appreciate everyone's interest and support. When it's all ready to go, I'll be sure to come here and tell you all immediately. thanks, Brad

Are my ears playing tricks on me, or is there a volume difference between the unprocessed and processed tracks?

First day of my holiday. Kind of bad weather so I thought a little soldering was ok. Really like the look. Though testing them more in depth will have to wait. Attachments:

I must say I'm jealous seeing these pics... because I don't even yet own any Colour Palettes and I've been designing modules for this platform for the last 4 or 5 months. Ha. I need to remedy that! Brad

Hey Paul, how difficult of a build is this thing? I have pretty minimal soldering skills, so I'm a bit reluctant to make this my first legit job. Would I be best off grabbing a cheap-o guitar pedal kit to practice first or should I just dive in on my pallete/colours?

Good for beginners, even very good considering you could start with the smaller Colours that fit into the Palette, just to get the feeling for soldering on PCB boards. The assembly manuals at DIYRE are really detailed too. Check them out and see if you think you'll dig it. Also check a few PCB solder guides at YouTube. And be sure to get the stuff you need to do a good job, then it'll be easy. There's a lot of tips here and at DIYRE telling which tools you'll need etc. Also at the big CAPI threads on the purple site there are sometimes soldering newbies getting their questions answered. My best tips are: 1) Read the build manuals at least twice before each step. 2) Use a hot iron w small tip. I'm at approx 380C. Could harm components if you're very slow but you won't be b/c you won't need to touch the joint more than 3-4 secs 3) My best tip is getting a cheap Head visor magnifying glass. Mine is w/o light. Cost like $15. I've made a couple of errors on my builds but still no cold joints or solder bridges/shorts, b/c with the visor it's impossible to miss.

is it possible to do a palette that is a converter?
aes and clock on the input xlr audio on the output xlr. one module could be the converter and the second module could be the line amp flavour. ie, ampex, burl, jcf etc? people could mix and match output amps.

Cool idea. But could be a bit too power consuming. No idea though. Talking conversion in the Colour context led me to think about bitcrushing. Guess it's done so well in the digital domain that it's not the first you come to think about for Colour, but what if someone came up with a bitcrusher with an analog twist of some kind?..

Yeah, unfortunately, putting a converter in the current architecture isn't really going to work. The Palette would have to be totally different.
I've considered the idea of a bit crusher. It would indeed be cool to do. I have a ton of ideas for Colour modules, but that one was on the list. Who knows...
If anyone is interested....I'm going to be sharing a booth with Peterson/DIYRE at PotLuckCon next week and will have all three of my forthcoming modules available to demo. If you are at the conference, please do come check out what we have in store for Colour. We are very excited--I think people are going to be stoked with what we've come up with.

maybe the converter is in a breakout box and the palette does line output and tape emulation....... :-)
big shortage on the high quality diy converter front.......... wink wink

Now, one week later I promise I'm another person. Sleeping and doing just nothing, except drinking a tad bit more than usually (Folks, no worries, I'm not an alcoholic)

Nice! You guys would be appalled at the current state of my workbench. My girlfriend is rather pleased that the work area has expanded from the bench to the living room floor. Ha.

Just got mail from Brad: RGB Series - for DIYRE Colour "We are so excited that we can't keep our mouths shut any longer. The team at Rogue Planet Command has been working on three exciting new modules for the DIY Recording Equipment Colour Modular Analog Saturator platform for the last few months. In the next couple days we will launch a Pre-Order campaign on our website that will allow you to order these fully assembled marvels for your Colour Palettes. In the meantime keep your eyes on louderthanliftoff.com and your inbox for more detailed information about the modules and the campaign."
Module 1: Pentode - subminiature tube gigantifier (lol) Module 2: Pulse - a textured echo deck Module 3: Implode - world's smallest 1176-style FET limiting amplifier
I think this will be a no brainer shop stop, at least for me

So can we distort the limiter into the delay? Hmmm. Like that!

So can we distort the limiter into the delay? Hmmm. Like that! Or maybe through the pentode and then the delay for a tube delay? Curious to hear the tone of the pentode. Could be cool after a condenser or before a D.I.'d signal if it was the right flavor.
