Brian--your module looks great! I should post a pic of the one I prototyped this weekend. While it's sounding incredible, I'm on the fence whether I'm going to release it for mass consumption in this format. I have other ideas in works though. Stop being a tease. Make with the pics Okay, here it is. I've been working really hard on this: Features two modes of operation, jumper selectable: Minimize: turns down the suck Producer Mode: purges lame producer ideas from mix Brad

Last day to get in on the pre-order. That is all. Goodwyn out No, please don't be out! It's more than two months until I'll get my units and I'll need at least 3-4 juicy updates every month to keep the spirit up. Waiting for new gear is tough and kind of bittersweet.

I meant out for that post, not for good! I will definitely keep you up to date on the production process via email and here. You are an investor after all!

So good news. I finally got to test my colour in its final configuration today and I think you guys will like it. We were talking about maybe putting some onboard jumpers so you can increase the distortion level and it is totally not necessary. The saturation knob on the palette goes from 0 gain at min to +20 at max. Across that range you get everything from a mild coloring to tons of distortion. You can screw stuff up good if you want First thing I did was chart how much distortion it makes with different levels presented to the module: Level (dBu) THD -------------------- -12 0.9% -6 1.7% -3 2.4% 0 3.4% +3 4.8% +6 7.0% +12 15.5%
Then of course, the proof is in the cake. I totally stole Peterson's sound samples that he used and ran them through my colour at various settings. The levels aren't perfectly aligned but you can quite easily see what can happen across the range. The saturation knob is as indicated in the file name and then I adjusted the trim to get somewhere around unity. You can see that the distortion gets exaggerated quickly. I think if you stick with the intent of the thing, which is gentle coloring of your sound, you'll work this around 7-9:00. I didn't record them, but the 7:00 sound is very nicely subtle. https%3A//soundcloud.com/brian-horvitz/tb-audio-cmos-steezer-basshttps%3A//soundcloud.com/brian-horvitz/tb-audio-cmos-steezer-bass-wethttps%3A//soundcloud.com/brian-horvitz/tb-audio-cmos-steezer-bass-1https%3A//soundcloud.com/brian-horvitz/tb-audio-cmos-steezer-drums-1https%3A//soundcloud.com/brian-horvitz/tb-audio-cmos-steezer-drumshttps%3A//soundcloud.com/brian-horvitz/tb-audio-cmos-steezer-drums-2

I'll just add that this is my first time posting to soundclound. It's sort of annoying!

Psyched about checking these samples out. Any idea what the pricing will be like?

Don't have pricing yet but don't worry, it'll be very reasonable.

That's awesome...I've been playing around with distorting drums lately...

Very cool. Keep in mind that these examples are pretty extreme just to emphasize what it does. I think a good strategy would be to come at with with peaks around -3 or 0 and then dial the saturation knob up to what you want to hear.

How many of these do you have? I need to wait for some funds to hit my PayPal from eBay, but don't want to miss out.

petersongoodwyn Is there a spec of how much juice these will need? Within the VPR spec? Are you recommending or 'forcing' the developers to stay within a certain spec?

Thanks Brian! 'Rail' in this case: One of the the three slots in the Colour module?

Thanks Brian! 'Rail' in this case: One of the the three slots in the Colour module? "Rail" meaning the +V or -V from the power supply. So, each module can draw up to 38mA on the +16V and 38mA on the -16V.

Got the kits a few weeks ago. Finally had time to assemble one of each just to be able to test a little (later today). These kits are made with such love and care. Super cool packaging and great build manuals (online). But a little heads up - and this is not a complaint - check all resistor values before soldering, and also check that all parts are in. This is prompted in the build manuals, but isn't that mentioned like whatever you ever buy?.. Of my four 15IPS kits I had three kits with one resistor mixup, and on the palette kits a few screws are missing. PG replied super fast and replacement is sent. Again, I'm not complaining. Actually, I can't for my life understand how CAPI and TB Audio seems to never miss. I've seen a few other posts here and there about missing parts, so perhaps the DIYRE team haven't got into the routines with these kits yet, or perhaps the first mega big batch of Colour stuff was just a bit too much to handle. I really hope they don't suffer too much and that this isn't a big issue for them because everything about them seems so sympathetic and this Colour concept is such a fun and cool idea!

And a brief follow up. Played with the 15IPS, JFT & TM79 colours for 10 minutes. Jeez, this is really cool stuff. I'm a bit scared because of the endless possibilities with the choice/order of the colours, degree of saturation, using them on buses or individual channels, thru or in paralel etc etc. This certainly calls for a day or two of just playing. And eventually probably two more units to fill up the 6-slot lunchbox!

Looking forward to BradM's offerings too.

I have one more intense week before 3-4 weeks of holiday. Look forward to dig deeper into these when I get back.

I built a steezer a few weeks ago... sounds great to my ears, especially useful on bass. Going to order the Eisen module soon, and whatever Brad makes -- one of which seems to have a tube
