I’d love to hear more information about that. they use 2 k103 fronts bolted together. no clue why. maybe they couldn't get the feedback right so they just changed the capsule? No clue. It's made by AYM and it costs like $16. It's why they don't have any pictures of the full mic without the basket anywhere on the site or in the marketing pack, even though they do for every other mic. It's also why their wording about the capsule is so bizarre: "making sure that ours performs the same way, has the same frequency response" because they're not even using the same kind of capsule, so of course they had to. Notice they say "WA-67", which is the entire microphone and not the capsule, so the statement about its design being accurate actually applies to the schematic and is therefore not legally a lie even if it's under the big capsule subtitle. Very clever. Then they spend the rest of the time talking about the brass rings to pad out space because they can't say any more without lying. They're very, very carefully avoiding being legally liable for their dishonesty here. There are 2 or 3 layers of plausible deniability built in. It's one of many reasons they make me uncomfortable as a company.
edit: If you look on the internet archive, you can see that they used to actively lie about this, but there was a teardown on groupdiy early last year and people got angry so they changed it about a week later.
Conflict of interest declaration: I am a professional capsule designer, and I have OEM relationships with multiple Warm competitors.
Welcome to our corner of the internet, it’s post like these that make RGO what it is.

So does using two K103's, make it twice as good as a TLM 103? (Then again ) Chris

I’ve always used a NOS Tele (grey shield) in my MK67. It gave a really nice lift and clarity. But since I replaced the BV12 with Moby’s, I think I’ve realized the Tele is no longer my favorite tube. Max’s BV12 (as is widely said) is pretty dark and thick sounding. The more pristine, leaner Tele EF86 is a perfect fit. But the Moby is a lot closer to the Neumann and now the Tele sounds a little too lean to me. I tried the stock/included Valvo PF86 (which I hadn’t used since getting the Tele) and I preferred it. Now I want to try an Amperex. Ordering a nice one from Bowie, looking forward to hearing it. I know Vincent R. and Ward are fans.

I didn't believe what a difference the Amperex would make until I grabbed a couple and tried each one out. It is astounding. Opens the mic right up!

Not cheap, but more balanced sounding. The tele’s were really mid heavy. I have a Neumann bv12 in mine.

Cost for Klaus to work on a 67RI these days is apparently 4k; tunes the capsule, S2 switch and removes some components/electronics from the signal path...and there's a long wait. Would be very curious to hear one of these vs a stock reissue.

So - slandering KH is a weird flex. There’s a difference between criticizing someone and then posting slanderous conjecture without providing any proof. So, I’m going to err on the side of caution and delete @crilleman’s post. It just seemed personal. We get it: you don’t like KH.

For everyone complaining about what klaus charges, I suggest you call him up, discuss the potential work and costs directly, and then decide if the value he provides aligns with your sonic goals and pocketbook. The man is not getting any younger and has a backlog of true A-listers beating on his door. When you're that guy, you can charge what you want.

Obviously I'm not fit to judge thing$ in that kind of price league. Yet... I've seen many instances where Klaus went "Beyond The Call Of Duty", to help someone out. Including a close Buddy, where recently Klaus gave him an excellent Refferal... For dealing with a past "Unexpected Mod" of his Vintage 87. (He bought it many years ago for $1800, but the non-KH Mod wasn't disclosed) Chris P.S. Plus Klaus (and Ben) put up with my humor attempts.

No issues here with the price (other than I can't afford to have him do my pair of 67s)...but I would LOVE to hear a comparison to satisfy my curiosity.
