I gotta say I hate the sound of U47 FET's for vocals, and I really wouldn't recommend them to anyone when there are much better options. I've had access to two vintage 47 FET's, for years, and simply put, they blow for vocals. You say that, and I present you with this... Of course Wyatt's voice does most of the work itself.

Wyatt is currently competing on The Voice. Let's see what they mic him up with. And dare I bring it up, he's also featured singing into the 47 Mod 1 on Weird Audio's site. (I'm already regretting saying that.)

Yeah. Wyatt's a nice guy too. He and I have been chatting for a while. I hope he kills it!

yeah . . . that's game, set and match there. Really brings out the baritone in a tenor voice, in the best possible way I prefer my voice on a U47 FET to a U87 personally. I really want the reissue, but I've been eying that burnt orange/red Heiserman H47 FET for a while now. It may have to happen.

Of course there are exceptions, that guy would sound good through $30 cassette recorder mic I wonder what the signal chain was for that recording. It really sounds great. The reverb is perfect, tone is perfect, sibilance, perfect, plosives, perfect. But seriously, I can use two vintage U-47 FET's any time I want, and every time I gave both them a try for a new vocalist, one of my other mics was unanimously considered better. That sound reminded me a little of the Lauten Audio Atlantis. That would be an excellent cost effective choice if you were chasing the kind of sound in the video. Do yourselves a favor, if you like the U47 FET sound but don't want to cough up 3 G's, check the United Studio Tech out, it's the closest thing I've heard to the original: www.raddist.com/united-studio-tech-fet47.phpand it's way less than a grand. Our own Chad Kelly makes them.

I received a used WA67 I nabbed for a good deal. Shooting it out tonight with my MK67 and jtc111's BU67. I only turned it on briefly to make sure everything was working and thought on first listen that it actually sounds pretty good. Looking forward to putting it through it's paces tonight. Even Emily is joining in.

He did do the AMI BV12 swap on my mk67 when everyone else bailed, Just put my first payment on the 251 he is releasing in July. Though it really is a lovely change to the fet 47 Heiserman did with the exterior nothing too much just very clean and classy in a way, I really am surprised the Heisenberg breaking bad color never took off.

I have to return the Warm Audio WA 67. The dealer sent it to me with the wrong power supply. I called to see if they had the correct one, but they don’t. Warm audio advised it’s the wrong power supply when I reached out about purchasing a wood box for the mic. The serial number for the power supply is for a WA 8000. It’s a much more powerful supply. That’s disappointing.

But they can be painful if you are the one it happens to. Actually looking forward to your thoughts on the wa67 Vincent.

There are few people I trust more than Vincent R. to give a well-educated and seasoned review of a mic.

Funny...I was coming here to post something about the Warm. I got a vocal from a guy that I do a lot of stuff for. I actually suggested the Warm a while back to him and he bought it. Got some vocals today and was thinking, "damn, these are recorded well..." Like - there are NO issues EQ wise. Just really solid, no problems...and sure enough it was the Warm 67. Makes me want one.

The thing is if you look back to Vincent’s first posts, he has always known what he was looking for, he just needed to develop the language and have direct exposure to the big boys.

Yeah the Warm BeesNeez and a handful of others can really deliver a great production at a great price, the thing with all of them is this though, while Damn good mics on there own the second you start judging them against the real deal or the upper level clones you find weaknesses not overall as microphones but as clones.

So after going back and forth with Warm Audio all day, we finally established that I do have the correct power supply, which says WA67 all over it, but some how was given a sticker with an incorrect serial number, which should be for a WA8000. So, I will run it through its paces.
On the plus side, because of all the back and forth they are sending me a wood box for free. Which is why I reached out in the first place.

Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the mic, Vincent.

Also, in what I hope will soon be better news for me personally, I started a methylprednisone blister pack today because the NC pollen season is just insane this year. I was already on 4 different allergy medications in preparation for this allergy season, but they were just barely keeping me upright for the past 6 weeks or so.
Sorry for the diversion.

Not fit for high level judging compared to you and others. Yet... IMHO particularly for solo/small circle of voices/instruments, typical of home or Project Studio use, you can "get lucky" with an "inspired by" model. Chris

Oh I feel you Mark, terrible allergies plus a screwed up nose, the only thing I have in the arsenal that works is Promathazine, a very powerful antihistamine that is used for treating nausea. It also kicks my ass, a 100 mics. Of Fentanyl an hour no problem, a dose of propathal at 170lbs that would put out a guy 100 lbs heavier, little effect, but a damn antihistamine can put me on my ass.

Chris No doubt, it was the same thing in the early days of clones except much more expensive. The Lawson 47 is an absolutely awesome mic, but it’s not a typical 47 ( having heard the 47 it’s based on though Dave nailed it).
