Cowboy, you've been one of my recording heroes for a while now, and are probably the main inspiration to seek out this web site. I'm not just buttering you up for no reason, but hoping you might do me a favor.
First, I would LOVE to have you do another take, as has already been requested, but record with and without the WA76 at the same time. Assuming you've got the WA76 cabled to your patch panel, maybe you could send the pre output to one side of your B2 and the compressor output to the other side. This way we'll hear an identical performance, reducing the variables.
Second, I would LOVE to have you take the uncompressed version, and use the new UAD 1176's to try to match (or better) the WA76. Either let us hear these 3 files or give us your impression of WA76 vs the best current 1176 plugins.
Pretty please?

...or even take a clean vocal that you have laying around and run it through the 76 so that we can hear it. I guess War has a video from his Zen site too though.

Yeah I'll do some more samples with it and post them up here. I've used a lot of 1176's and this one is certainly on par with those I've used. I hear a little bit of high/mid foreword thing going on with it. All compressors do something in the way of changing the eq a smudge. This one seems to lend itself to a vocal really well (bump around 3.5). And it will get gritty like any good 1176 and is fast as lightning. Warren was right when he said this thing is a homerun at this price. The first one I had in here was one of two prototypes and it needed some tweaking. I think Bryce has nailed it with these production run units. He's a smart dude to get feedback from music makers when designing a build. Warm Audio is starting a reputation of a name we can trust for working musicians not just collectors of gear. We got a lot of that going on right here in this online community, (Jeff S. being another righteous dude who builds great gear). Were very lucky to be a part of it.

Looking forward to giving the WA1176 a go soon. Vocals are always my main concern. I'd love one of those Heritage 73Jr's, but it might be a while until that's on my "can do" list

Wow, looks nice! Apologies to those who don't like the orange Warm logo, but I think it's beautiful.

Didn't warm say this was a D rev clone? That opamp in there says otherwise.. This looks like a rev F meter driver.. And they didn't use 2n3055 as output drivers either..
It looks good though.

Hey guys, at the NAMM show, just got back to my hotel room... first post on this forum... one of you must've been at the NAMM show, great pic from the booth table of the inards. You are correct in that there is an IC that controls the meter of the WA76, this has nothing to do with the signal path. Using the IC based meter regulator from the later Rev's was easier, but the gain and gain reduction sections are rev D. There is definitely a 2n3055G on the output stage, it looks nice big and shiny in that picture posted above, are we not seeing the same picture??

Welcome Bryce! I've got two TB12's, and I'm looking forward to trying the WA76. Can we expect an opto-based compressor in the not-to-distant future?

Thanks for testing the unit out for me Cowboy. It sounded great to my ears but having you give me the thumbs up definitely increases my confidence that their ready to ship. On that note we might get lucky and have them sooner than March, no promises but I just got word that the US might have them in just a couple weeks.

Any idea how the sales are going? They still going to be in stock once they're in stock?

Thanks for coming by, Bryce! Is the WA76 getting a big welcome at NAMM? Yes, it's really cool to see people walk by having no intention of stopping and then doing a double take... then walking over. A lot of people are asking questions about the mic pre's now too, those that haven't given them a serious look in the past,... the compressor has definitely done a good job of drawing some attention.

Bryce, I'm very happy with the TB12's for vocals, direct input, and some buss duty. I also appreciate that the TB12 has the flexibility to be API-ish, clean-ish, and in-between-ish. Have you considered created a similar take on a Neve-ish pre?

Any idea how the sales are going? They still going to be in stock once they're in stock? We have sold almost all of the first 500 to distributors, not sure how fast end users will be buying them, but I think they'll get snatched up quick. Last I heard Zen Pro Audio had already sold 50-60 to end users and Zen pro is a very small dealer, Sam Ash, guitar Center Musicians friend etc... will be getting some too so the 250 pieces that were allotted to the US could go quick. The other 250 are for other countries.

Have you considered created a similar take on a Neve-ish pre? Glad to hear you like your TB12's. I personally love NEVE, so many cool records in the 90's were recorded on old Neve consoles and the 90's was when I was young and had time to listen to a lot of cool music. Hopefully one day I can get around to tackling Neve, so many people are cloning Neve right now it might be a tough market...

There are a lot of Neve clones, you're right, but the top ones (such as Heritage and Aurora) are in the $2-3K range for a stereo unit. If you could work the kind of magic you've done with the TB12 and the WA76, well, I think you would be able to crack that market.
Anyway, sorry to take so much of your time, have a great Namm!

You're right, the great replicas like BAE et al are expensive, but they're amazing and worth the price IMO. In a similar price range to what Bryce is offering, I've heard good things about the GAP73. A friend of mine sent me an acoustic guitar track for one of my songs, recorded with the GAP and it sounded beautiful. So, as Bryce noted, that market might be tough for another new product. I'm happy that his WA76 is successful, might well break him into the market big time and generate more sales for his other stuff. Thumbs up.

Good to know Bryce, personally if the signal path is set up properly, it doesn't matter the rest IMO, and if it brings the cost down, more power to you! Looking forward to hearing one of these for myself
Thanx for chiming in man!
