I just couldn't stand it anymore. So, if I get it and feel like I can live without it, it might end up in the classifieds RAW - https%3A//soundcloud.com/johnandkris/k84Room Verb https%3A//soundcloud.com/johnandkris/k84verb

I highly recommend the shock mount for a Shure SM-81 to go with it. There are more expensive options but I've never been convinced they are as good.

I found out years ago that once you hear something you want, no amount of modding anything else will do.
The other thing i learned is only get what you need, Not what you want.

Scott, I bought both of mine off of the bay. It was scary but worth it. The buyer had a lot of detail about them so I felt good.

The uniformity of the 84's polar pattern is extraordinary. This makes placement far less critical than any other mike I've used and it sounds great at distances where other mikes begin to sound muddy. It has a more uniform pattern than any omni and actually works better for measuring speaker response. It also has a transformer output so it doesn't have the RFI sensitivity that can make its transformer-less successors sound bright and harsh. Finally, as far as I've heard, Neumann still supports it with parts and repairs.
The down side is that it needs to be shock-mounted and while it's a better sounding vocal mike than all but the most expensive LCDs, it pops easily so singers can't get right on top of it. The other limitation is that like all original Neumann phantom powered mikes, it requires a preamp or mixer capable of delivering a full 48 volts to each mike.

Pray it's not beat up too badly. I used to rent stuff I considered buying to avoid the GuitarCenterSamAshSweetwaterFullCompass Two Step.
If you find yourself buying, then selling, that might help.

I should say "imho". Anyway, it is very, very natural. No exacerbated top end. Just suuuuuper natural. Bottom is flat and punchy. Mids are exactly like they are in the room. I had been looking for this mic on acoustic for years - always wondered, "how the hell do they get that sound?" Well - this is it.
