#1 = #1 here: thought more overall tone, presence and top end, little problem with the word proposition #2 maybe a little more sibilant than #1, more mid , less top ,so softer/rounded #3 words nation and people sound waffles and/or distorts (low freq problem), sounded scooped out and the least low end
I would rank them in that order too. interesting as #1 is set up as is my C12; listener bias ?
delete my comments if you don't want them yet ! still waiting on the bass player :had to do something !

dizengoff here's the Wally Heider Neumann U87 with the dizengoff D-4, both R and myself were LOVING this tone. Consider we did NOTHING in the way of filtering on any of this, we let things be what they would be. https%3A//soundcloud.com/tonycamp/dezod4-u87

Jk I hate to break it to you but they sent me your 47 for safe keeping and well ah,,,,
the 87 with the dizengoff D4 sounded very balanced, excellent acoustic sound, nice transients but focussed ( those are the stock new tubes in the D4 right; hardly any burn in yet ?

I do not have any connection to Matt at all other than he saved my life in the decade + transition from analog to RM with this FM002 mod, winetree bought a pair of his D4's straight up, i will definitely be picking one of these up soon, i can imagine it will be perfect with my C12 for ACG, who knows what else?

Ha, i thought the 12-1 and 12-3 had much more in common than the 12-2 and thought these were the C12s and 12-2 beeing the less desirable sound and the 414. Which is maybe not far off. Tells you something about the capsules. They have huge impact. In fact i officially can't tell the difference between a C12 and a 414 as long as the capsules differ so much as the TC vs. the BN capsule! The 414 sounds NICE with Tims's capsule.

In fact, first impression of the Matachung with the Beeznees: Dull. 414 with TC: Crisp an very clear. C12 with TC: Richest radio voice. Distracted by the cricket in the guitar part. LOL.

Yikes! This was honestly awesome Tony, thanks so much.
In the kind of online shootouts where you hear say.. a $150-$350 U87-ish mic vs. a U87, I've never preferred the less expensive one. In fact even if the difference isn't huge, to me it's all the difference in the world. That's why this is cool Tony, they're all going to be viable, and you ain't selling' nothin'.
Before I listened to the last group, I picked #1, the C12 w/Tim Campbell's a knockout.
The D4 is really fun, It's got those lively, quick first transients, and sounds, dare I say it... Beatlesque, (meant in the best way possible).
U1 is good, maybe a U87? me no like U2, could barely listen to the whole file. The voice on U2 threw me, the guitar on U2 was fine though.

the 87 is seriously kickass IMO I did a lousy job on the level match on the 67... mehhh, clearly the 67 is the bomb for picking up that rat bastard cricket!

I'm batting 1000. I always liked a U87, it's the true benchmark, consistently excellent on almost anything you put it in front of. I'm sorry I had to sell my vintage one, but medical bills in the USA are insane sometimes.

Well I liked 1 in the C12 category... and I didn't like 2 in that category..when I read what capsule was in it.. I laughed out loud.. cause then I knew why I didn't like it 8)... very very long story ( I will save that one for the get together ....) . I was surprised how much I didn't like 3. That sounded like a cheaper capsule to me.
I also like 1 in the U category.. which is cool.. cause I own a U87 ..
Looking forward to the U47
Can I just say, doing shoot outs is a huge amount of work, and I greatly appreciate both you guys doing this, for no coin... nothing other than what we call here in Oz.. "Mateship" which is the strongest of all bonds... with the possible exception of the Lock on Winetree's Safe... LOL .. what a classic.. two M49s trapped... 8)
cheers
