after all the talk original vs clone, it will be extremely cool to be able to hear these clips. I understand that even real 47's probably vary a great deal, but #39 is the real deal so this is a great little recording history lesson !
Thanks Guys : we all know these are a lot of work but I hope fun too !

dizengoff. well props to Max , Siegfried, Cat5 and Tony who made the kit, the cap and/or saved my 47 pieces of bacon ! i am sure that can be arranged ! Honestly, I find the mk-u47 with your D4 magical. Its so cool I am thinking about building another but with the red cap, Cotten batten on the teflon pins and special order mike stands bags filled with virgin Italian beach sand ! just to cover my bases .

we just got done, almost 1:00am, we had a few issues with gear, took a long time to get not enough done..., I will post as much as we did tomorrow(there is quite a bit), the u47's were the most interesting in comparison, IMO JK's mic was the best sounding mic of ALL the mics we tried, i'm not saying that because i built it either, it had just had it all IMO, you guys can listen and judge for yourselves in a bit.
You guys should let me know if i should just ID the mics or post them blind? I vote for IDing them, it really won't pay to guess imo. The one thing that became very clear through this is, mics are as individual as people almost, they all have a character of their own, not a single u47 sounded like another, not even the pair with the bluelines in em.
see you tomorrow, sleepy time is now 8)

tonycamphdGuess the mic! Only so I'm listening with a clear, unbiased head. How about if you label them blind and pass out a key with the files. That was we get an unbiased listen without the games. Sound good?

Looking forward to the files TC. You used the RCA tubes right? They are one of my faves to date. I have not tried the gold pin version yet. I hope this will put to bed the notion that 408As can't drive the BV08 properly, and the issue of whether Max can wind a transformer (BS floating around other forums). You do realize that the blue LEDs in the PSU is what makes the mic sound better, right? I immediately noticed that all of my mics improved when I installed the blue LEDs. JK, I'm pretty sure Tony isn't sending your mic to you.

This needs to be aptly titled as "The Rogue Cricket Session" 8) ok, so i'm going to load these up in sections, we had quite a few problems with gear, myself and Robert have both been in build mode for some time now, the bugs reared their heads on us literally and figuratively 8) we fought back as hard as we could, we will amend this shootout with more tests later, the biggest disappointment for me was one of Robert's safes that he keeps his mics in malfunctioned and locked him out! He tried everything to get it open and has a safe cracker coming to his house in short. Shit happens, he felt bad about it, that safe had the M49's locked in it 8(, bummer yes, i really wanted to hear them about as bad as any of the mics, but i told him alls good, no worries, and we still had a ton of fun and laughed pretty good. We had some top notch mexican food and a beer right in the middle of it, all in all a very fun night despite the bastard studio cricket!
the test controls were as follows: On acoustic, the mics were all 20" out off the 12th fret, and 35.5" up from the floor on the samples, (not sure exactly how far winetree was off the mic for voice overs? obviously much closer), I marked my seat and floor with tape, matched levels as close as possible, the mics all had diff sensitivities so pre's needed diff amounts of gain, the mic pre was always the Dean Jensen Boulder pre(really nice sounding for sure, pretty neutral and sweet, they kicked the crap out of my 002 modded burr brown pre's), no filters, eq, compression or anything else was used anywhere, badly played guitar courtesy of mua, robert with his insane radio voice, and one unruly cricket from hell! little Bastard!!! lol
This is C12 family, no originals, their was an AKG 414 in here, i just labeled it like this to not give it away since some want to guess. A couple posts down i will reveal, so IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWERS, DON'T GO PAST THIS POST BEFORE YOU LISTEN. https%3A//soundcloud.com/tonycamp/c12-1https%3A//soundcloud.com/tonycamp/c12-2https%3A//soundcloud.com/tonycamp/c12-3

the mic pre was always the Dean Jensen Boulder pre One of my favorites. I can't afford a real one but the SCA J99 is a perfect substitute. Great choice using the Boulder!
