Good humor is healing. And by the way, taking it back to the topic, with a name like Flea, it has to be good! (And I love the Flea people and their mics.) Fava Lima Edamame Alfalfa Tastes good too! (hope that passes the Good Humor test... @chesparov promised ice cream)

I think the crew over at the Tube Tests YouTube Channel did more than anyone to spread the word about FleA Microphones. They just posted these two videos on their new channel Modern Mics. Congrats to both of them!

Been reading this thread & the Heiserman thread & can't recall exactly which 251's were compared. Was this FleA involved in any of them? Remember there was an original Blackbird shootout years ago with an Upton & the 251's there (including "Dolly"). And then there was the one with Heiserman at Blackbird. I think JohnKenn was involved in both? Can someone elaborate on what's been compared so far? Am curious about the Bock, FleA, Heiserman & Upton as these are the main contenders & with 4 different "CK-12" capsules.

Wow, if the sound is as good as every facet of boxing and construction that is visible in the vids, the Flea 251 is a hell of a mic. An Anvil type road case! - not necessary but amazing they've gone to these lengths. Certainly ramps up my interest . Cheers, Ross

Someone posted a nice sample on the purple site, a comparison between the FleA 47 Next and the the new ELA M251. The 251 sounds wonderful in that clip.

Pardon me for being a Richard and throwing a wet blanket on your enthusiasm but in addition to it being more open sounding, it does sound a little bit sibilant. Just something to consider and something that could be more exaggerated with heavy compression factored into the capture or mixing

Still, it had a quality that I was looking for. I would completely expect a 251 to be more open than a 47. As for the sibilance I’d have to go back and listen again in the studio.

I have matched every capsule that I have sent them so far for this series but tonal quality is also determined very much by the tube and tolerances of the other components. I would say that it should be easy to get a matched pair but a random pair should be very close.
I tried answering this over on GS but their deactivation/reactivation process tells me I am reactivated but won't let me post hahaha.

Others are close but the 251 is widely regarded as in the top 5 of all time.

So I guess we all just need to pick our poisons so to speak. Looking forward to hearing more from the FleA and Heiserman and how they compare with originals, and other established brands like Bock, Upton, and Telefunken.

But on re-listening I could hear how on a more sibilant singer (like me) how it might be enough to break out the de-esser. But it ain't no TLM 103 or Ref C on me! (Get the protective lead shield out) Chris

They really all sound good. FleA is a touch warmer, which I like on the female voice. I like the Bock on the male vocal. Its more modern sounding than the other two. I foresee a FleA in my future.
