Sheesh I bloody hope so, I preferred Bock's take on the 67 to the actual U67 itself.. No where's my wallet? Oh, it already melted from exhaustion. Hmm.. I have mixed feelings about this place, I really do. If you plan on sticking around, you're going to need a bigger wallet. I've been on this forum for like five years already.. LOL mlYeah, I do hope the 167 is just like or similar to the U99 as it was on my list to buy. I gather the UA transition is the reason I couldn't get hold of any demo or stock units. I did try to e-mail one their offices mid last year but just got a bounce reply.

I kinda like the colors. I don’t like the sm7 copy thing, the pencil condensers sure look like they have the same overseas body as many other mics out there. I’m sure the Bock mics will sound fantastic. I also think UA is trying to cash in on the Warm Audio/ Focusrite market with stuff like those other mics and the volt interface thingy. Good for them I guess. As someone who’s first preamp was a 610 back in the early 2000’s, it’s a little disappointing to see this kind of stuff, but from a business perspective, I guess I get it. Reminds me of an old saying I heard from someone in the auto industry years ago. “A BMW isn’t worth 20 grand more than any other car out there, but once you stick the name on it, it is.”

As long as they keep producing stuff on the other end of the spectrum, like these new Bock mics, I can live with the cheaper, lower end and quasi-cloney stuff too.

Hi all, The idea with this launch was to have a mic family that offered something for everybody, regardless of budget.
So we have the Standard Series which are our workhorse, budget friendly mics. These sound great without breaking the bank! Imagine them paired with a Volt and you’ve got a great native solution.
Then we have the Sphere L22, industry leading mic modeling technology with almost endless possibilities for the serious recordist. Paired with a Twin, you have a match made in heaven.
Then we have microphone guru David Bock’s newest designs. I need not say more for those that know. Pair them with a Solo 610 mic pre, a hand built 1176 or LA2, plugged into an Apollo x16 and you have a chain that is iconic and unmatched.
Add to all this, a huge library of the best sounding plugins in business, our own DAW LUNA, and oh yeah, UAFX and OX, and we think we’re building the most compelling set of tools for music creation out there.
We hope users see all this and find value in it and come along with us on the ride. If they don’t, that’s cool too.
The future is exciting, stay tuned, we’re not done yet!

They do have theirs priced about the same as Advanced Audio’s version of the same mic, the DM7.

I'm in the "your Bocks look great" camp personally though I'm fairly certain I'll be priced out on that mic. On the SM7-alike, I've really never understood why I would buy a clone for $300 when the real thing barely costs more than that. But as someone else said, happy to withhold judgement until I hear the thing. The SM7b certainly has a learning curve so I could see a more "user friendly" voicing being valuable for younger/newer recordists. Also, the cable placement on the original SM7B is one of the dumbest designs in audio. It looks cool but it's a huge PITA. Change is welcome on that particular non-feature.

Ugh....those are freaking ugly..... Sorry. They are. 1. What if Bock or UA came on here and called the Silver Bullet ugly... Just something to think about. 2. I hate the color pink, but I wouldn't let that stop me from buying a LTL product. 3. I quite like those tones of green and think those new UA Bocks look nice. Haha! That's 100% OK with me. Dozens (probably hundreds) of people have active voiced their dislike of the silver vibe of the SB. Diversity is what makes the world go round. If you dig the colors, I think it's great - for you. For me, it's not only the colors, it's the head baskets and body style too. To me they look like cheap rebranded Chinese mics - which I'm fairly sure they are not. But hey - it's JUST my opinion, which is no more valid than yours. I'm sure tons of people will dig em and put em to excellent use. If Bock is involved, they are almost certainly going to sound awesome. [edit:] apologies to anyone who loves the look. No offense intended - they are just not my cup of tea, and although I was excited to see what Bock/UA would come up with - these pretty much caught me off guard. Guess I should have just bit my lip and stayed quiet. I would at least expected Binders or equivalent and high end body on a $6k mic. Maybe I'm missing something. Anyway, again, wish them the best of luck.

Don’t understand that at all….how is it a problem? Where would you put it? It’s in the one place that’s locked down tight and low profile relative to the stand. Just curious.

And I don't think you are not allowed to say that just because you have a product with another company. That's ludicrous. I just hope UA makes a "classic" version as well. No need to reinvent the wheel. Or even repaint the wheel. Just give us the old look and offer these iPhone colors as well for the younglings.

I can't say the look of a mic really bothers me. Anyway Drew @ UA, seems the prices have remained similar so that's super cool.. Any chance of getting a demo? Pleaase?

With certain mic stands don't you find that the SM7B can be hard to connect? I do. I also have two cables where the attachment to the cable literally won't fit between the bar of the mic stand and the body of the SM7B. It's perfect for its intended broadcast use though and, yeah, once you have it set up it's to of the way. But setting it up and taking it down is annoying I think.

Yes, we bought Bock Mics. And David is a UA'er now!! The 167 and 251 are indeed tube mics, the 187 is not. Perhaps you're thinking about Townsend Labs which we did NOT buy, but rather we acquired their assets including the Sphere L22 which is now a UA product. 2 questions I have if you’re able to comment on it yet.. 1) Has the sound of the Bock line changed at all? 2) Will the prices be the same? Higher? Lower? Thanks! This is definitely not the time to be asking anyone about pricing, if they are smart they will hand you a coin and say “ heads it’s more expensive tails we hold the line.” Those are the odds right now.

Mic's are only useful when they're in your hands, used on your voice / instruments through your equipment. Heard some nice sounding mic's on the interwibbles that didn't quite measure up in reality. Anywho, that's why we have 30 day returns policies right?

Pricing wise the UA mics look like what I initially thought, a rebranding of the Bock 251, Soundelux U99, and Soundelu 195. Which isn't a bad thing. All were great quality microphones within their pricing points. Maybe I'll finally get to try this new Bock 251 and decide if it's worth the plunge. It's been on my list for too many years with no luck demoing it.
