Rehearsal went great, love the K Sweets! That 15” K Sweet Hi-Hat is growing on me, I think it is a great sounding hi-hat. The 17” K Sweet Crash isn’t for sale, in the mix with the band I really liked it. I bought the 18” K Sweet Crash as well, wonderful sounding crash! In fact I like the 18” and the 19” better, but the 17” has its place. I really dig rides that you can crash, the volume on the K sweet 21” ride is perfect for the small to medium sized club/bar and doesn’t overwhelm, blends well. Can’t wait to mic these K Sweets up.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 15" hats. Even though I have 3 pairs of 14"s I NEVER play them for an extended time or on gigs. More often then not they might get used if someone else is playing the house drums and they need the super crisp thing. Like I had some contemporary gospel things where the style of playing warrants smaller brighter hats.

+1 for cranking overheads in the drummer’s cans
Ks are great, and as many here have already said, might be what you’re looking for. though I don’t bother with them as I’m a 5B basher, myself.
I like A customs and I am not heartbroken if/when I crack one. Heavy hitters don’t need pricey cymbals.
Ribbons usually do a good job of mellowing out cymbal harshness for me. I often dip around 5-6k in my room mics and sometimes even my overheads.

I have an A custom 14" Hi-Hat that has been with me for a long time, when did the A Customs come out? Yeah it's been a while. I absolutely love them. I took them to the store thinking it's time to find a different sound, and I couldn't find a Hi-hat I liked better. Something special about this one. It just sounds right to me. I wish all my cymbals I have had that right sound that I was content with.

Unsure when they started but I bought my first A custom 22” ping in early 2000. That cymbal held in there just about 10 years! That was an awful lot of tours and plane rides. I cracked it on the last long tour I ever did. I finally had Nicky Moon rework that (and another brokenA custom) into a set of 15 1/2” hats just last year.
I have a weird pair of mismatched bottoms as hats and I love them. They seem to never get overwhelming in overheads and room mics like so many hihats can. Though, if you aren’t used to playing them, they feel awfully weird and heavy - which might be too much of a different feel for clients. But I’ve been playing them together for about 20 years and they’re still going strong!
