How much reduction were you pulling on these tracks? On first listen it doesn't sound as big as the Sta, but I'm just on my work speakers and not in the studio. |

Didn't have time to level match anything and I pulled them into a 48 k session without realizing it (was working on one that came in in 48). But you can download these and get an idea. Acoustic was set to double-recovery 10 o'clock Vocal was set to double-recovery time 11 o'clock. Both the same input and output levels. db.tt/40PibGLAdb.tt/dwrUS5yGGreat singing by the way... |

I tried to keep it close to what comboy said he was pulling "pulling around 10 db on acoustic and on the vocal around 10 for the most part until that last section when he got a bit louder. Those passes were pulling around 15 off but just here and there. Input set to about 7, output set to about 9." I don't think I was able to pull quite that much without hearing the compressor(s) working. Also, I tried to level match as best I could. I think I still may be a few dB's shy of cowboy's clips, so be sure to pull his volume down just a tad when listening. |

indiehouse of course, JMO, but real quick comparison, the sta- has a tubey punch and front to back depth to it, yours sounds flatter dimensionally, like it would fit good in a busy mix, but i'd take the sta- for a simple guitar/vox track. btw, it is indeed a couple db shy of cowboys samples T

Well, it's not in my hands yet. Vintage King was backordered for a week. Shipped today! I am both excited for it's arrival yet sickened at the thought of how much money I just dropped! I was really trying to talk myself out of it all week, and you dudes did nothing to help! I am very stoked though! My studio is pretty busy at the moment. I'm working on 5 albums at the moment. It'll be cool to break out the Sta come mix time! |

Thanks for posting these and changing them to download. This thread has been super interesting. None of the compression examples have been bad by any stretch of the imagination, all have worked all have something different they bring to the table. The STA is just "RIGHT" for my voice and guitar in this tune though. I plan on buying one, its just hard here in Oz. They don't come up vary often here, its a small community here that uses that sort of high end gear, I keep my eyes open though. To buy that new here, runs close to 3500 AUD (for all intents and purposes same as USD within 5 -10% depending) which is significant. I have a Beesneez T1 I am trying to sell, if I do I will bite the bullet, but I am saving for the STA ..I will get one. How could I not. It makes me sound like a better singer than I am and doesn't sound like its compressed....I am sold. 8) cheers Wiz |
