on valve guitar amps, I turn off power at the wall, leaving the amp turned on and plugged in, and leave it for a few minutes, so things can discharge.
cheers

There's 3 pieces of gear in my studio that I can't do without, my console, my B-2 Bomber and this comp. Everything else is negotiable. cowboycoalminer out of curiosity, how's come you're selling your Sta?

It's at $2000 now. Auction. There's one with a 6386 too. If grab that one.
Btw - if you see one under $2200, buy it

Just picked one up for 2100 with a NOS RCA 6386. Had to rewire the patchbay a little, but just about ready to get her racked. Now I gotta figure out this hardware insert thing with the Apollo.

Hardware inserts have more to do with which DAW your using than the interface. Cubase (which I use) sets the delay compensation automatically. PT, you have to set the delay for whichever interface your using. Don't know about the rest of them though.

My best gear story is about going to a ham fest and walking up just as someone was unloading their trailer full of various gear. The guy was talking to people as he unloaded, telling how he was moving to Hawaii and had to get rid of his stash. I saw a StaLevel in the pile and asked him what he wanted for it. He thought for a second then said, "ah, just take it". Man, I just about ran out of there with that thing under my arm.....

It's easier to remember that good story and forget the 100 bad stories where the gear I had cost a fortune, blew up, or something like that!

Have to pay off some medical bills and haven't been in my studio in months but I had a chance to get in their yesterday and I just cant find the heart to sell this stuff. Was testing the Avid Omni's DA running Stems through my Oram 8T and I honestly think that is some of the best money Ive spent. The Sta is a very cool piece and I don't think Ive heard anything close to it in terms of vocal compression. Im still considering selling the Omni/Thunderbolt combo but it is a really good piece. The Burl is still up in the air as Im going to be doing some testing with running mixes thru it and then running the same mix thru the VP28's and the Omni and seeing the difference. I will be doing more Rock n Roll stuff so it might all sta (pun intended.)

I'm kind've at critical mass right now. Like - I don't need anything else to get a fantastic product right now. I mean, I can't record drums because I don't have enough ins and outs...but I'm usually gonna track something like that in a major studio anyway. At this point, I would just be buying for the "want" of it all. But then, inevitably, I feel guilty about an item I rarely use and sell it to feed the kid or pay off something else...The Sta is different, though. I don't need the Sta to make something great, but damn, it makes it soooo much easier. It took me 3 cycles of this to figure out I'm happier being in debt with the Sta than being out of it without it. I wish that kind of inner peace to all of you. Namaste.

Yeah, I've got my reservations about spending 3k on a vintage comp without hearing it or working with it for awhile. These things can be hit or miss. Cant imagine how it could be better than the Retro. Different maybe but not better. Plus Phil is always willing to help with service. Big plus as these things need service from time to time.

OK Marie from Drip sent me an email today saying that a limited run of Sta comp PCB are being run. I know Svart thinks DRip is over priced but man I'm trying to find the funds!

Isn't the drip around $1500 or so after everything? You can get a used Retro for about $500 more.
