Mine rolled in last Tuesday, a few weeks after the initial shipping slip. Still in disbelief that I'm finally holding such a fantastic mic.
Sadly- on that same day- I was informed that my studio's building had been sold to a big developer, and now we're all scrambling to find a new home in the next month. Hence, I won't be able to really put this mic to the test for a bit of time.
That said- an initial sanity check with my home setup (using the interface's clean preamps) revealed a warm sounding mic, punchy in the midrange, and no sibilance problems! Just as I had imagined.
Worth the wait in spades!

Wishing you as smooth of a move, as possible. Chris Indeed, malkitI hope it goes more smoothly than would seem possible at this stage, I imagine. I hope it somehow unlocks some new creativity for you.

I am not sure if any of you saw this from Stam Audio's FB page. Apparently Chile is in total lockdown and so I am assuming they won't be able th ship anything for the next couple of weeks.
"Gents,
We are on strict lockdown for 14 days. Situation in Chile is quite bad.
We will continue working from home populating PCB's so can resume shipments upon our return to the lab.
Any questions kindly write to Andreina or Sori at info@stamaudio.com
Thank you"

Chile has been on total lockdown so I think it has been impossible for them to ship the last 3 weeks.

I haven't been able to do any work at home because my wife's using the space to work while the virus shut down her studios. The more I listen to the few tracks I did with the SA67, the more I'm liking it. It has a sound of its own. All the great mics I've used do. Some folks might be more compatible with U47 or a 251, but the SA67 delivers. I'm looking forward to trying it in a real studio up against a vintage 67. I think it will hold its own easily, but we'll see.
AS soon as I do any new tracks I'll post something.

I just used the SA67 mk2 I recently received on Vocals and A. Guitars on this old Buffalo Springfield cover tune from 1967 I've been reminded of lately you can hear at the link below. I love the mic, it was completely worth the wait for me

Anymore experiences or updated opinions on the SA67? (Caveat- in the process of moving studios, so I've only been trying out the SA67 in my apartment, connected to my converter's preamps)
I've had the SA67 on for the past two days- testing it out and trying it on various sources in my apartment. Not the ideal space to record, but I figured if the mic sounds good here- it's a good sign.
And it does. Nothing sibilant or harsh at all- it's got muscle and detail without sounding like a blanket was thrown over the top. Almost like an electrified ribbon mic, maybe (?).
On my voice- sounded great, balanced, and the EQ (when applied) didn't seem overly pushed or strident. Just enough air. I'm looking forward to really doing a vocal pull when I get back in the studio.
The real surprise, however, was on the sarangi (a bowed instrument from Northern India). I have been searching for the right mic to record this instrument with for close to a decade. It has a very complex voice with a lot of harmonic overtone, and most mics tend to render it a little too strident for my taste- especially after compression.
The SA67- right out of the box- is giving me the ballpark I have been after for years. And while it's still a little early to report back conclusively, I can already tell that I've found the right match.
That alone is worth the price of admission. Thanks, Stam.

I think that vocal sound is excellent Mike. What was your signal path? Did you de-ess at all?

Thanks Martin, ...I’ll start by saying that I haven’t done much mixing so I have plenty to learn in that area and pointers are welcome, but Vocal Chain was SA67 > into a SA1073EQ Preamp only with the EQ off > into a Audio-Scape Opto > into the DAW. —- I didn’t use EQ on it ITB other than to put a low cut on ,……I would agree with others that the SA67 is not sibilant at all, and while I didn’t need to De-ess before it, after I added multiple compressor plugs each with a light touch, I then manually did a little gain reduction on a few S’s.

Thanks Mike. It must be the Opto I'm digging on that track. Of course the rest of the chain is excellent, but I suspect one of the things I'm liking a lot is the way it handled parts that might normally get "essey".
