Sounds great, Martin. Mine arrived here after yours did this week, but in the brief time I've had with it, it sounds like yours to me, wonderful. Congratulations on finding your 67 Martin and congratulations to Josh and Tim for a job well done. I think the amount of effort, skill and time they put into this mic completely shows and like you Martin, the more I get to know it, the more excited I get.

Sounds really nice Martin John Butler . When this blows over we’ll find some time to meet up. It’ll be nice to hear it next to my modded MK U67. I know you and mike have been really looking forward to this mic. Glad it’s in both of your hands now. Looking forward to hearing everyone make some music with it.

It would be fun to get both of you out to the studio when they open up again and mess with your mics and some more gear.
Sounds great Martin!

Looks like love is in the air. I just got the shipping notice for my SA67, as well.
Glad to see you like yours off the bat, Martin. To me- that's a very auspicious sign!
Times like these harken me back to the days of Kidvybes (RIP), who first turned me on to the Warbler series. I bet he'd be so impressed with all the offerings out there, today.

Congrats Martin; I reckon your quest is over. My reading of it is that the SA67 is a little less 2.5k-ish than the Redd - not a bad thing at all as it sounds very natural and would take eq if you want it to. Without having any to compare to I'm hazarding a guess you'll find similar differences when comparing with a re-issue. It's the same feeling I get when comparing my SA 87 to my memory of a U87 ; it's very natural without the edge and works on almost anything. Interestingly mine's got a Heisserman cap in it yet still achieves similar effect .
Hats off to Joshua and Tim on this one, a great result on this evidence.
Cheers, Ross
P.S Am going to ht Tim up for a CK12 to put in my Rode NT2000 when I'm back home from lockdown in New Zealand. He says it'll sound great with that circuit.

Thanks Reddirt, it wasn't really a fair fight putting the Chandler up next to he SA 67 because the Chandler has the REDD 47 preamp built in. So the only way to really compare would be to have the Chandler preamp too. At least the Dizengoff D4 preamp I used is a similar circuit.
Still, the Chandler is the best modern production mic I know of, so I thought if the SA 67 can hold its own, that's really saying something. I didn't take loads of time finding a good mic position, or run it through a hardware compressor, and I added no effects at all.
The Chandler track did have a little processing when I recorded it if memory serves, but I took all the other effects off and ran it with no plugs or hardware, like the Stam, except for a little reverb.
Considering this was a quick first try and the SA 67 vocal track I posted was raw, I'm impressed.
I'm really looking forward to trying the SA67 in a nice studio. Once I get it dialed in and learn how to work it, I think my vocal sound will get even better.

Martin - I'm glad you finally got your mic!!! Woohooo! Hope it works out fantastic for you long term. <<thumbs-up>> I haven't heard the SA67, and don't plan to, but the REDD47 is quite different from the vintage 67's I've used over the years. Not sure you could even compare a vintage 67 and the REDD and call them in the same state. Both killer mics, both quite different to my ears. If I decide to go down the 67 road (and honestly, I'm not sure that I ever will), I'm going to go after a re-issue and send it to Klaus if it's not 100%.
Enjoy your mic!!!!!

Thanks drbill! I don’t disagree, the Chandler is closer to a U47 if anything.
I haven’t heard the 67 reissue yet, but I consider the Chandler to be the finest new mic being made today. I happened to have a simple clean track I’d used it on, so I thought why not let them go Mano a Mano , just to see.
All things considered, I’m very happy with the results.

Hey Martin, I remember a while back you posted that you had tried an ADK Z-Mod 67 and like it alot. Can you compare it to the Stam 67? I've been considering saving for the ADK as I really like their TC line of tube mics. Thanks.

Hey Tbone, it was the Max Mod U67 I was most interested in, but you may be right, Vincent had brought over another mic that I think was the ADK. The mic was dull and nowhere near the quality of his Neumann or my Soyuz, so we didn't pay it much attention, if memory serves.
The Stam SA67 sounds great. It's been a long time, but if memory serves, I'd say it's better than the Max Mod 67 was. I've been told it bested a reissue when recording vocals by someone's whose opinion I trust, but I don't have any tracks to post so I can't confirm.
Vincent has since put in a Neumann transformer, so we plan to take a second look asap.
Just did a quick test with an acoustic and vocal. I wanted to see how it fared on acoustic guitar, and it worked beautifully. I think I could really use an LA2A or a CL1B though.

Yes.
My voice was a little edgy today, but I did it anyway, just to see how the 67 sounded on acoustic and to get used to how best to set it. I think it has the real sound of a 67.
I used a little HPF on the guitar and a pinch of UAD's 1176 REV E. I might have rolled off the bottom a little too high. I'd love to hear this with a proper compressor. We're all listening with a good idea of what it should sound like, and many of our references, probably most, have a hardware compressor like an LA2A, 176 or a CL1B
I've only used the Dizengoff D4 preamp so far. Next time I'll try the SA73.

This one I think sounds very, very good on both guitar and your voice.

Thanks Ragan, that’s much appreciated.
I have noticed that when I try to add a vocal to an old track, like I did on the first track I posted, it rarely sits in properly.
The track with the acoustic guitar and vocal was done fresh today.
