The word is out. AS is working on a 500 series LA3a, and also - long term - on a Fairchild 670.
Woohooooo....... Times are good for the vintage freak in us all.

3a's are possibly my fav comps. Looking forward to this. Although I've got 4 modded Serpent SA3a's which are awesome, and two of the JLM 500-A1s which are cool, but not as cool as the serpents. There is always room for more good 3a's!
On the 670 front, I've always been wary, because I want a good reputable manufacturer in the US who can service one. The Unfairchild is of course an option, but so much $$$$$$. Looking forward to see what Chris has planned.
Also, other secret stuff in the works that has yet to be revealed.
All this and I haven't even got my EQP's yet..... <sigh>
Vintage freaks unite!!!

Hopefuly, he forgets about the 500 silliness and just puts a dual mono stereo pair of 3a’s in 19 inch chassis: who says I’m hard to please ? Cool stuff !

Was joking , but I have no 500 chassis, so it never makes sense for just a couple of things, bet Chris will rock a 3a though !!

IMO, nothing silly about 500 format. Please, NOT 500. Or make 500 an option. 19" rack is MUCH more useable, totally universal, and does not rely on the vagaries and limitations of whatever 500 rack one has for reliability.
I already have a Scamp rack and several Allison Research buckets for their proprietary module format. I really don't need any other module racks.
If I had an API console I'd be all for 500. But I don't and can't afford one.

Oooooh boy...
This tickles me in a serious way.
Unfairchild is also out of my reach. And even if it was in my reach, I don’t think I could validate a purchase like that.
I join Bill with his 3a feelings.
Now... if only Audioscape would indulge me with a proper PYE.....

I'm definitely interested in a pair of LA3A's. I'm actually surprised more companies don't offer 3A clones.

I have almost jumped on the diy clone, but keep holding back.

Sorry John, maybe you should change threads. Chris mentioned they are working on "a few" 500 modules.... Maybe time for that 500 rack after all??

That's awesome, Drbill.. I've been in touch with Chris and Charlie at AS since I purchased the La2a clone (Opto Comp) back in 2017. They're both great guys, and have both offered wonderful support for any company, large or small/boutique.
I have a Serpent Chimera 500 on the way. Would be interesting to do some comparisons when they're ready.

Was joking , but I have no 500 chassis, so it never makes sense for just a couple of things, bet Chris will rock a 3a though !! The solution? Just buy a 500 rack, and then when something cool comes up in that format (which is regularly) you won't have to play the "how much extra is the rack gonna cost me" mind game!

This is fantastic.
I really like my AS SSL comp and have zero doubt than in the years to come there will be a lot more AS gear in my racks.

Oh drBill, what have you started??? .....oh wait. We started it! First off, ALL of your support, kind words and ENTHUSIASM is truly and sincerely appreciated. We'd be nothing without y'all! The future is bright for us with the end-goal being to fulfill all of your ANALOG hardware dreams, wishes and more So yes, these things are all true! The "LA3A" is fairly far along in development, simply buttoning up iron and some other odds and ends! It's going to be AMAZING and we can't WAIT to share more information with y'all! As for the 670, YES it IS on the drawing board. But I'm sure as most of you are well aware, this is NOT a simple or straightforward project to take on! This is a long-term goal. Basically the idea is, it'll take as long as it takes to get it right. We also have some "yet to be teased" products currently in development that will raise a few eyebrows as well... one in particular that really fills a gap in the analog hardware market. It too, is very exciting. We're working 24/7 here at AS HQ, things are insane but we're looking to the future yet taking it one day at a time! To those who don't visit the "other" forum, this is the most fun bit of the last post we made about 3 hours ago, for anyone interested! "We're currently working on a few 500-series products!!!
Mostly preamps, but the first will be a 1:1 recreation of the infamous UREI LA3A. We've always wanted to do one, but hated the 1/2 rack form factor yet didn't want to "box people in" by doing a stereo rack unit (due to the added expense, double the cost basically).
Once we figured out that we could fit the entirety of the circuit in the 500/series format, it was game on! This thing is amazing. "Always On" Cleamountan Mod, fully variable HF Emphasis control moved to the front panel, along with a Stereo Link knob (also fully variable). Had to figure out a few clever ways to make the T4B work, but we succeeded!
There are other products pretty far along in development, but we'll save those for another time!
As for our 670; that should be VERY interesting; keeping the sonic integrity of the unit in-tact, not skimping on tubes or iron. This is key to the vibe and soul of the 670. Much of the magic is due to the high-voltage being utilized in key areas of the circuit and also allows for the extremely fast Attack times the Fairchild so elegantly imposes on the source and why it's very specific design, originally by Rein Narma, is still so revered to this day.
Our take on the 670 is more or less still in the drawing board stage, but we're excited. Talk about pedigree!!
To do this realistically, we're thinking it will be EXTREMELY limited to a certain number of fixed units built / sold every quarter or so. Time will tell."

I was recently pondering dredging up the old threads about the Gap 3a. Cuz, I think I might need some 3As.
I don’t really want to join the 500 club. That'd just be an empty box I’d have to fill. At great expense.
But. Somethings gonna push me over the edge. This just might be it.
Cheers, Geoff

I'm very excited about all of Audioscape's current and upcoming products!! Absolutely love my two 76a's and my Opto comp. It seems like there's lots of new products springing up, and I can't wait for the 3a! I have 4 empty slots in my new 500 rack. I'll also want to compare them to my two Stam SA3As.

I built 2 19 inch floor racks and need very little OB and run a modded delta Soundcraft with 16 channels of 4 band eq and pres. I am not really interested in 500 series stuff. To me,it just seems a needless rabbit hole. I believe the people here who say buy a good chassis so you have no psu problems. When I compare the cost of that, plus modules, I’d rather buy a few 19 inch pieces and be done!
Anyway, great to see the post from Chris!

Very unlikely, as it would be nearly impossible to fit all of the necessary tubes and iron into a two-space... HOWEVER, we're still at the drawing board phase as mentioned, so who knows! The 3A is VERY exciting, guys!! Glad to see so many positive comments towards it. It's been one of the most recreations from us and I'm happy that we figured out a way to do it while avoiding the original's awkward size ;-) ::high-five to everyone::
