Taking time to get things absolute perfect and foolproof is the company way. I know you loved/hated your stalevels. The audioscape V-Comp is just absolutely perfect without any tube fluctuations! The Fairchild+ clone will be flawless or won't leave the shop - which will really tick me off, but I'm certain it will be flawless. O:) :]] And also doesn’t use as many tubes. Doesn't use any faulty knockoff Asian tubes. Actually uses sourced and verified and extensively tested AUTHENTIC NOS tubes, and cuts no corners! The only exception is the 6386s. "We will have to use the JJ 6386’s just because of availability of that particular tube. 6386’s are scarce and to find 8 of them and have them matched will not happen" - Chris Yetter. "Ours is very similar in construction to the original design. With some well needed extras." - Chris Yetter, again. Keep the faith!

Well, mine has a real 6386 All my retros had NOS tubes, seemed like the first ones I had were rock solid, but maybe the last two started having tube issues that were hard to narrow down. Obviously not the fault of the unit - I just got tired of dealing with it.

It used to be easier but now finding enough 6386s to get 8 matched up for every single unit is going to be impossible... or at least as rare as hen's teeth. Hence the move on this tube to go to JJs for the matched octets.

I just got tired of dealing with it. No doubt. I have a love / hate affair with tubes.....

Fedex delivered the second V3A today - in the 500 series rack and passing some SD3 loops through - so far sounds great!! Very happy with everything Audioscape in the current rig - guess I'm another AS fanboy

Hopefuly, he forgets about the 500 silliness and just puts a dual mono stereo pair of 3a’s in 19 inch chassis: who says I’m hard to please ? Cool stuff ! Your prescience was extraordinary! I'm glad he didn't forget about the "500 silliness", though

Maybe I need to get a 500 rack. I have not seen the single rack space dual LA3 available from them since I started looking. I already have their Opto and 76D. Great compressors and a great company to deal with.

Great compressors and a great company to deal with. Maybe??! No, you definitely need to get the rack -- I held out for a long time, then took the plunge when a Radial SixPack became available. I've since been trying several different processors. I've bought 2 audio-scape V3As this month on their Summer Sale: $600 apiece! They are fabulous. At this point, there are so many used 500 processors available, I'm like a kid in a candy shop trying different things and not really losing money in the process -- maybe shipping cost... The nice thing about the Radial is that it's got DB25 I/O connectors, and you can plug 2 non-500 outboard processors into channels 7 and 8 -- all running in/out of you interface over DB25. Without that, I'd have to use messy DB25 breakout cables from my Metric Halo ULN8 units.

I'll buy another when I need more spaces.

I'm pretty sure this thread resurrection is why the v3a's were sold out last night when I was going to impulse buy one.
Thanks for saving me from impromptu purchases.

Great compressors and a great company to deal with. I would, handy space saver and once you get a 10 slot the price of the modules is generally far cheaper than rackmount. In terms of audio quality there doesn't seem to be anything missing.. I do hope the rack never go's bang though, that's a lot of expensive equipment.

I think the Summer sale is over now, but they have units available every Wednesday and Saturday nights @8:00 The Wednesday units sell out by ~10:00 Pm. The Saturday supply tends to last until around noon on Sunday.

I definitely saw some V3A's last into the Thursday after in past weeks this month, which is partly why I blame this thread.
Speaking of Audioscape, you all see they're raffling off the remaining Golden58? Did I miss the raffle for the flood relief from last year? Never remember hearing the results of it.
