Not to be that guy, but how does it compare to the Waves AR Chambers? AR Chambers is pretty unusable for me. I want to like it but it just sounds weird and cheap every time I put it on. I much prefer the stock Logic reverbs for chambers.

Can you elaborate on this? Just curious. Well, I qualified this by saying “supposed”, but here goes. We had a Demedio API, that came from Sunset Sound. The guy who brought it to us showed me the “trick”. Basically, it’s all three frequencies at 12:00 with the gain on each dimed.*Of course you have to bring down the gain at the line input, but that’s it. It sounded pretty great to my young ears! Hope this helps. *edit - while standing on your head. Do you mean frequencies at 6:00?

Having used/heard many machines (Studer, 3m, ampex, tascam, etc) I’ve come to the conclusion that a perfectly working and reliable tape machine is the best sounding. Change tape formula and buss compression/line amps for flavor.
My Otari mx5050 makes me happy because I don’t worry about it not turning on or the rewind stops working or it needs to be recapped or etc etc.
Older machines (60s/70s) are a constant pain in the ass from my experience.
That said there’s a 4track ampex w Inovonics 355 units for sale locally I’m thinking of ignoring reason and checking out. The ampex machines do sound amazing *when* they are working.

That mastering eq is making me drool ...
Just might have to go for it. Anyone else here using a Sontec style eq on their 2 bus ?

Really? Drums don’t sound “70s” at all to me. Great guitar and vocal sounds on this production.

Love my pair. Got them insanely cheap on Craigslist a few years ago, I still see them on there around $400/pair fairly regularly.

FWIW I can't hear any difference between the conversion on my Element 24 at home and the conversion on the Symphony Mk1 at the studio I work out of. It's really good for the price.

I will never support JHS https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarpedals/comments/410a3q/probably_late_to_the_party_but_why_all_the_jhs/ Wow that is nuts. Glad I never purchased their gear, which tbh always seemed way overpriced anyways

Should I say loud that I think about to sell my G SSL bus comp because the stupid Logic VCA Compreor plug in does in 9 of 10 cases a much better job. Exactly why I sold my Serpent SB4000. And my 1176s. And my dbx. The logic compressors are really freaking good. Never selling my La2a tho.

The UAD Oxide, (their cheap one) is the first tape sim that gave me something like the feeling of tape, all the others so far are basically gain and EQ plug-ins, essentially, tone changers. I've got Oxide and Ampex... first tape satisfaction for me. Recently added Softube Tape... it's a good addition for me. Especially since it's native. Lots of the other ones basically I found un-usable. The Waves, etc. The u-He Satin one was pretty cool though. even though it didn't exactly feel like tape, sounded pretty good. Softube tape is my favorite I’ve tried. By a long shot. Presets are really good too.

Between my Pearlman Tm47 and aea 44 I’m totally set. 2 very different, very gorgeous sounding mics.

Two questions: At the red settings, how much compression would you expect it put on your average vocal? Shouldn't your settings be more dependent on how hot the output from the preamp is? My P1s have one knob. I like them with the pad on, but if I don't want to push them super hard I need a lot more gain on my WA-2A than 25. With those settings, at least with my 2a, I find it has the ideal output level to my converters. I adjust the output of the preamp til I’m hitting around 6-7db compression on loudest passes.

Group buy vibes. Went through this with my bus comp. I'm still tempted here... but honestly I've been using the WA76 at a local studio and it's been absolutely STOKING my client on vox. I have a bunch of time on real silver and black face 1176s, FWIW. I still friggin love my WA76s. Have Hairball, had Mohog, have used Urei’s a good bit. Tried the KT version. WA76 stays in the rack and the others are gone. It’s just a great 1176. You prefer the warm to the hairball?

I picked up an Element 24 for super cheap on Craigslist a few months ago as a bandaid until I can save up for a bigger system.
The conversion has blown me away. I have it hooked up to my old FireWire ensemble for sends and extra inputs. The difference between the ensemble and element conversion is night and day. It sounds even a little more “open” than the symphony mki at the studio I work out of.
If you work with Logic the new “zero latency” integration is amazing.

That’s video is not the actual performance of the recording. But I feel you, working at a live venue has jaded me. The quality of talent has taken a nose dive.

There’s one at a studio I work at sometimes. I like it on snare and guitars. Has a little bit of hifi curve thing going on to my ears. Good stuff but has never left my jaw on the floor.

Just realized this thread was dedicated to the impulse responses- oops! But I only have experience with the plate reverb. Really huge, deep, thick. I find myself reaching for others first but sometimes it does the trick. Using in Logics verb.

I love the drum samples. I understand some of them might be too effected for some people, but they are so unique. I find the flavors for snare and kick to be right up my alley. Their 70s California and American kits are my fav. They have crazy vinyl noise so not universal but for hip hop/modern indie are killer. I also love the 808, very versatile. Being able to switch between tape formulas and tuning is sweet. My secret weapon for 80s vibes is their vhs juno - SO COOL!!

Been thinking about getting one of these as my master recorder. I have heard time and time again you shouldn't record into the same computer you are bouncing from. I can say it has caused me some issues so I'm willing to bite the bullet here. Besides an atr-102 I wonder if this is still the best option available. One thing I’ve found with older gen Apogee (mk1 symphony etc) is that if you have iTunes or Spotify open while a session is up that is at 48, 88, or 96 the clock gets confused and there will be pops and glitches. Something to keep in mind. Seems to be fixed in current gen.

Hey popmann if you remember what thread it was where you explained how to use drummer with third party kits, would you mind linking? This is going off memory, can’t you just control click- export as midi file?
